Overhead surf rods
Submitted by Micklemas on Thu, 2014-08-14 11:52Hi there,
Going through some old gear the other day, I came across my Abu 7000 overhead. Haven't used this reel for about 15 years, still in excellent condition. Caught a lot of Salmon on the South Coast of the beach, using a 12 footer made for a spinning reel, my knowledge of rods back then not so good. Forward to now, I would like to get this reel back into action and am now looking to team it up with suitable rod in the 11- 13ft range. Have researched, looked at, of the rack rods that would suit, but am more interested in looking at the range of rods from Assassins, Poseidons, Nitro's and Century's, to name a few.
My question: Can anybody tell me if there is anywhere in Perth I can view come of these brands before I commit to buying anything.
Thanks.

Capo D'Orlando Drive/Garfish
Submitted by tadpole on Tue, 2014-08-05 08:14Looking at taking the kids out to try and catch a few garfish today, will they come into the more protected waters at Capo D'Orlando Drive with a bit of berley or would somewhere like South or North Mole be a better bet? I've never caught a garfish before so hopefully we can get into a few. Any advice appreciated!

Overhead help!
Submitted by Wookie84 on Thu, 2014-07-24 22:01Ok fellas it all started when looking at new overhead setup for ballooning, was absolutely sold on the tyrnos 50, then I thought I can kill two birds one stone with a torium, I could
learn to cast big baits when the winds aren't favourable ? Then after extensive research on a budget, the pen fathom ? Can the penn fathom b used for ballooning ??? Any suggestions or feedback would be really helpfull! The Trinidad and torsa is outa my price range :(

VW Amarok ?
Submitted by taylormullenax on Wed, 2014-07-23 18:25Have been researching the utes as i will be needing one in the near future. Having a hard time finding information on the new reveiws and specs on them 2014 models
I will be doing mostly beach fishing and some 4x4 tracks and the journey to steep and sharkbay.
I have been looking into the Amarok but cannot find many details on it for 4x4ing. any LB fishos have any experience with an amarok? 4x4? on the beach?
(ground clearance is small compared to others and just one 4x4 option no high or low) curious to how it goes up against the other trusted brands.

Maylands
Submitted by sonoftherock on Fri, 2014-07-04 13:34Hi all,
I'm moving to Maylands this weekend... about 3 or 4 mins walk from the river (right next to east street jetty!) and I'm looking forward to having the opportunity to stroll out for a fish after a hard days work!
As such, I'm looking for some pointers on how to deal with the area. What can I expect? Being so close to home, I obviously have the luxury of being able to spend some long hours, late into the evening/night... In the past I've only fished the river during the day. Does the river turn on after sunset and, the big question.... is there much chance of a Mulla?
Thanks in advance!

What to target in exmouth
Submitted by Aaron_Moses95 on Mon, 2014-06-30 20:45Hi guys, im going up to Exmouth this Thursday for a few days that im free as im on my uni break atm. I will be chasing gt's , red bass trout, macks as im going out with Eddy on Peak Sportfishing, but was wanting some tips on what to chase while land based. Would like to get some jacks, small trevally and quennies if possible. Im taking halco twisties 20 and 30g, halco roosta poppers, richters ,laser pros, duel adagios, plus a nice box of softies (flick baits, shads, wrigglers). Was wondering if this would cover me, as I don't want to take too much stuff. Was thinking of fishing the marina, and heard of some beach spots just south of the lighthouse. Other than that im a bit lost for what to do as its my first time going up there. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers Aaron

Submitted by KevHuntley on Wed, 2014-06-25 13:46got there 6.am this morning , one other guy there.
started off on the small spinners and got nothing .. switched to a sabiki rig and got the usual blowies and loads of these small red blotchy green/brown fish , thought they were rock cod as someone had told me but on a quick look now deffo not ! anyone know ?
got nothing on the mulies/3gang but got a few sand whiting off the bottom
gave the squidgees a go and yer they got hammered but im assuming by blowies , correct ?
caught a small fish roughly same bright white colour of whiting but in the shape of a tarwhine .. all my tarwhine have had the yellowy gold tinge to them .. any ideas ?
anyway stuck it back out as live on a large octopus hook even tho the fella who had now rocked up said there was no point as theres nothing big enough to take it .. cast it out wound it in after abit of a hit and the little fella had a decent bite out the middle of his spine .. any knowledge of what would do that ?
Any way gorgeous morning once the sun crept up but as per NOTHING FOR BREAKFAST ... oh and mass respect to all the nutter swimmers without wetsuits ha !!!

Looking for a good spot between freo and rocky ?
Submitted by KevHuntley on Tue, 2014-06-24 10:55Hi im looking to head out tomorrow morning and target tailor as i havnt yet got one.
Im confused as the most successful set up to hook up , as a friend is swearing floating as "tailor attack from beneath their prey" and reading countless people saying weightless mullie or lures
If anyone has had more luck at a particular spot on a certain set up could you please give me a shout .. i have tried mullies on a running sinker , off the bottom , balloon , squidgeys and metal slices with no luck .. are the stick lures any good from your experience ?
Any advice much appreciated cheers Kev

Jetty Fishing
Submitted by gmr2107 on Wed, 2014-06-18 10:21Hi everyone,
I'm relatively new to fishing and am looking for some good spots to try out. I've been to Busselton a few times and really enjoyed fishing from the Jetty there, so I was hoping you all might be able to recommend some places to go within 4 hours drive from Perth that have a jetty or similar to fish from.
Thanks!

Has anyone been to dirk hartog in the past few months
Submitted by dano83 on Wed, 2014-06-11 06:47Just wondering if anyone has been to dirk lately
heading up in a few weeks. anyone got any reports ?
Im more interested in the condition of urchin point shack tho, ive heard rumours that the floor is compleaty gone.
Last time I went, the timber floorboards had been removed but it had been back filled with sand and carpet was laid on top. which was a lot better.. but now I'm getting stories from unreliable sources that it has eroded away and is just a big hole.
any info will be much aprevated
cheers

Winter Dunsborough Trip
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Mon, 2014-06-02 12:52Long time reader... 1st time poster.
I am heading down to Dunsborough for 10 days on Thursday and looking for some advice on some shore based fishing for a mixture of bread and butter fishing and chasing some tailor and sharks.
My plan is to hit up the Quinny jetty for some squid fishing at dusk and try the sandbars for some KGW and flatties and chase some herring around PP, the old Dunsborough boat ramp and Canal Rocks and try for some tailor (and stray salmon) around Smiths, Yallingup and Wyadup. For the sharks we are going to try catch some herring and keep them alive to send out later that night just around the rocks in old Dunsborough as it's walking distance from the house and we can have a few sips of a nice port while we do it but would love to see what else is worth chasing at the moment and where.
Would also like to know if it is worth fishing in the mouth of the Toby Inlet for black bream?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
