Glow stick trouble

Hey Guys

Had this problem for a while an haven't found a decent solution. Problem Being my line when night fishing keeps wrapping around my glow stick on my rod tip after cast or when its a little windy. I have an extra large tip and requires a light with a diameter of approx 4.5mm. The only lights I can find tht suit are these cheep ones in the pic below tht hook up on the line.
Any one out know of a better type tht are large enough to clip on my rod, or hve any different ideas of how to light the rod tip at night?????

Land based mulla

Nice little mulloway from last week

North Molle Snapper

With a 4mt swell this arvo, it should be worth a crack????

Is 50lb braid and 50lb mono leader big enough??

Any tips??

Seaweed conditions perth metro beaches

Anyone been down at Pinnaroo lately? What's the seaweed situation looking like? down there the other night went through a few rigs

Point peron pointers ???

Giving point peron a shot this Sunday arvo - sunn down .. After any useful info please.

Between me n me pal we should have 6 rods to play with so trying to cover all bases.

But wondering what if anything we should be targeting specifically?

Picked up few different size/style metal spinners , squidgey lures etc so see if any the different styles take their fancy.

Are there any particular spots that have been more productive than others for you .. Cheers for any responses !!!

Few Landbased fish from summer

Few fish i got into during summer spaniards, tuna, sharks... All Landbased

Landbased respect ? do you practise it?

Ok I not starting a bitch and whine post , but due to a recient event that happened to me , I need a some

faith restored in landbased fishos, ( and maybe a hug)

Scene , bowes river mouth , just south of horrocks, weather , rain!

We set up ( rods out , car awning out , chairs out etc etc) around lunchtime in the pouring rain, not a sole in sight, at a gutter ( approx 50 metres wide) near the mouth,

after checking a couple of others in the area ( as you do)

Fished off and on for about 3 hours ,( quite a bit of side drift , but managable) just really killing time before the ( hopefully ) tailor run late afternoon.( sun finally appears)

Anyhow , a dude appears, and he and two others set up at the end of the gutter, and start fishing.

Bit rude I thought , but oh well, just far enough away, to work. Then 10 minutes later 2 more appear and go between me and them, just great, but it gets worse

No bul...t within 30 minutes , in a 50 metre wide gutter there was 10 people fishing, and quite frankly I lost it. They all were in 4wd,s except one , and I was staggered by the pure

disrespect of it all .I pride myself on always giving others a very , very wide berth on the beach, Im taking going to the next gutter or the next, If possible out of sight, so

this just hit me like a ton of bricks .I tangled up almost straight away with some bloke , and for the first time in years , told this bloke to f,,,,,,k off.

Now maybe Im a fossil ( at age 48?) but is this the new reality with population growth  or should we all be respecting a mans right to have a quiet beach fish with his family

and drive off to find your own gutter. Quite frankly , none , and I mean none of these blokes thought they were doing anything wrong , so Im now questioning my own

beliefs.Things like jetty fishing and the like , fair enough, but on a deserted beach , kms long with lots of gutters?

We packed up, and headed home and saved baits and rigs for another day, the bitter taste of disrespect and stupidity still hard to swallow.

thoughts?

Proposed extended WA fishing trip.

G'day All you fanatics,

Now retired (well almost).

Doing a bit of planning. Handed boat to son as I am not prepared to tow around Australia.

Yair, call me a whimp, but I want to travel light and not work hard, except for the fishing.

Will motor across to the bottom end of WA and work my way up the coast to Darwin.

Where would you knowledgable fishos start and what are the recomended spots that are must do's?

Any links, fishing mags that you read over in the west etc. Just point me & I'll check'em out.

To give you a bit of a guide I fish ultra light (4-6 lb ).

Rods in the mid range 10-15 and 20 - 30 lb.

Have an old Snyder Glas 13 ft surf rod with 20 lb nylon.

A Phenix blank spiral wrapped 30 - 80 lb rated Heavy with Fast action.  I only use 50 lb line. No need to go bigger as I wouldn't be able to handle

whatever got on the end of the line.

By the time I get to go, I'll have a  jigging and  popper rod for up north.

Happy to fish off the beach, rocks and charter boats for some bigger fish.

Any info provided would be appreciated.

Cheers

Russell

PS.        As a newbie first timer from S. A. let me say that any help etc required from this part of OZ, just ask.

Exmouth landbased,

As I only had the one day out with Peak and having a ball, I made the most of my Exmouth vist by casting the shore line chasing my main Exmouth target the GT, I only had one suitable windless day and made the most of it .

the trick to landbased work here in exmouth for me anyways is when the wind picks up find somewhere out of it and find clean water, no weed and dirty water.

the first lot of cast i stired up big queenies and a donkey of a barracuda but couldnt get them to bite the lures.

The next day I thought i would drop the lure size down to metals and waxwings and got some nice tuskies off the stones and a load of those crazy spikey cods, hey they make for entertainment.

Which kept a friend of mine who flew in from Adelaide to catch up highly entertained , really enjoyed himself just catching the little stuff.

The next day I psyched him up for the dredded bundigie walk, I must admit I hate this walk and try to advoid it as much as possible, but it was the only place out of the wind.

for bundigie I prefer low light conditions and as per plan I got the hook up, near on got spooled on the Dogfight and had me thinking Shark........

a good battle later of pumping and winding, walking backwards and winding forwards I managed to land a good GT.

The arm buggered from all the casting and action, I dropped the lure sizes down the next day and gave oysters a crack, as the wind had changed again, I make note that on this trip it was the most lifeless i have ever seen the place, with only the little fish at the base of the stacks present not a bait fish in sight.

none the less kept casting the lures and kept getting hit but no hook up,,,,, wtf squid.....

now i dont chase these things at all, and rumaged through the tackle box and found a magazine freebie squid jigg, cut off the GT stick bait lure and with a ten foot GT shore stick and a saltiga 6000 running PE10 bagged out on the messy buggars.

how fun are they, so on my last day my mate and I topped up the bag limit for a lunchi time feed.

had a great time fishing so now its time to relax, drive old mate back to the airport, load up the car on the weekend and start the drive back to Darwin.

anyhow cheers people and here are some pics

Easter Mulloway

 Hey team,

Just joined fishwrecked and thought I'd share my little Easter adventure, so here goes. It all started from finding a pretty rough track off the highway north of Jurien Bay and just shy of Greenhead towards the end of last year. At the time the mrs and I were just scouting for somewhere to camp for the night as we were losing light fast. Anyway we popped out of the bush, white sandy beach, with a little rocky outcrop, happy days. Next morning wind was gusting 40knots straight in our face so unfortunately I didn't get the chance for a fish, but vowed to return one day and have a cast off that rocky point!

Fastforward to Easter just gone and back to our secret little spot, again having the place to ourselves. After a lazy start Saturday morning I poked my nose over the sand dune to assess the conditions. Not very pleasant with again a stiff westerly in my face, beach covered in weed, some very dirty water and I was wondering whether it was even worth a cast. But hey not a lot else to do so why not.

I grabbed my Saragossa and 7'3 stick bait rod, a couple of mullet and a knife. I wandered to end of the beach and made my around the rocky point about 50 metres to where I could flick a bait into deeper water as it was rather shallow in most spots. Nearing midday with only a few small inquiries and catching a lot of weed, something picked up my strip bait of mullet and I felt weight come on, a few seconds then strike! I was on, and braid started peeling off the reel. I started working the fish along the rocks back towards the beach as I figured this would give me the best and safest chance at landing it, as I had no net or gaff. As I neared the beach, working the fish slowly closer, not overly excited as I was thinking just a shark, I caught a glimpse of its tail out of the water, I recognise that tail that's a bloody Mulloway! Battle stations, heart pumping, I really wanted to land this fish. Finally reaching the beach, one last run and I had him, big smile on my face I was stoked! Just goes to show even in a very unlikely spot, right time right place, getting peeled!!!

2014 salmon vid

 http://youtu.be/mYOcZg3zMaQ

Just a small vid on south coast salmon , done just before easter, dont watch full screen , its a bit grainy , but

there is good footage of salmon right up against the shore hearding baitfish, oh watch for the bloody dog photo bombing thru out haha.

We just gave up catching them most days , they would appear around mid morning just before high tide of course and just hit

anything and everthing in the gutter, rubbers , poppers, lead head with no rubber , it didnt matter, every day after high tide , quadding along the beaches ,

it was littered with hundreds of dead herring, mullet, and asorted baitfish , all chased up by hungry salmon.

Its being a ripper year again along the south coast, a great asset to the fishers of W.A , take only what you need, and take all your rubbish out, thanks.

Extendable paint pole for gaff

For any who are using the extendable paint poles how have you found them? Are the joints strong enough? I'm imagining that they aren't as they're made to carry paint rollers which aren't heavy. Comments?

4wd/Camping/Fishing ideas close to home

Me and a mate have a 2 or 3 night trip planned in mid April and were originally going to Contos south of Margaret River. Problem is, my family has decided they want to go camping for a couple of nights the week after, which is great, but being on a single income and driving a GQ patrol, money becomes a factor on these trips away. So can anyone recommend some spots within a couple of hours from Perth where you can camp (preferably free), has 4wd access only and could catch a fish or 3? Saltwater or freshwater.
Was going to look around the back reaches of the Collie River as a start, then Dwellingup could be an option, but my fishing has been average there to say the least. And nothing too challenging as we'll only be in one car so Collie's Goat Rd, or similar tracks, can wait another day. Just wanting a spot where a bunch of families and their Commodores can't go!

Will a Spheros 12000Fa work for slide fishing.

 Hello people,

I am quite new to beach fishing and have only been going since i moved to Denmark 3 months ago. I have also been reading post about slide fishing, which sounds quite fun. I am thinking about buying a posideon 5 piece or some thing similar and getting started. I have a Spheros 12000Fa and I was just wondering if it would do the job for a while? Or will i need a new reel for slide fishing?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers Chipper.

LB rock rod holders

 Hey guys,

how do you all have your big bait/set and leave/livies/ballooning gear set up on the rocks,

I understand the uses of the PVC pipe and have used them many a time  but I've yet to find a solution to the rocks found further south with the flat often sloping granite with no real place to wedge a holder in,

what do you guys use?

I have found one setup on bustedfishing.com which is a bipod type set up, similar to a bipod on a gun, sort , but cannot see it helping in a larger swell affected areas

as wont the line will just be thrown pushed with surge into crevices and rocks,

please share your ideas

cheers

Ballooning

Hey People,

I know a lot has been written on the subject (I have read most of it) but was anyone keen to help a complete newbie get setup?

At this stage I was planning on using my surf rod (posidion 5 piece spin with the heaviest tip) and purchasing a new Saragosa 25k to hang off it. Note this will be mainly for use off the beach and I would consider another rod for off the rocks at a later date.

I was thinking about loading it with 50lb braid and a topshot of roughly 150m mono (to also allow a bit of sliding if the wind isn't favourable). The reason for also staying with spinning reels as I suck at casting an overhead.

Terminal tackle would be standard, like what has already been discussed before. 90cm balloon attached to 15-20m of line sliding along 1 side of the double. Wire, hooks and gar skipping along the surface.

So my questions are;

Am I nuts and there is a far better setup avaliable for similar cost?

Is 50lb main line overkill?

What lb mono topshot would you recommend? (I was thinking 60lb but would have a casting leader attached if sliding).

Is there anyone out there, who would be keen to take someone like myself out and teach me the ropes? I've got a 4x4 and can pay my way, etc...

Due to work/family commitments I cant see myself getting out enough to justify getting a bottle from BOC. Are the small party balloon disposable bottles ok to use? I realise it might not be as ecomonical.

Anyway, thanks in advance and dont be affraid to shot me down if I'm nuts. All going to plan I would like to land a mack before Easter.

New surf rod

Thinking of getting a new surf rod. Heard rovex aureus is good but cannot find anywhere. Been looking online and there is a penn prevail surf rod. It is 12ft and 10-15kg. Will mostly be targeting tailor off the beach. If any better suggestions, anything under $200 would be good.

Land based fish care with no ice

Just interested to know how everyone looks after their caught fish when fishing landbased and have no esky full of ice to store then in. How long would you keep a fish before needing to get it on ice? Planning an overnight trip and trying to figure out what the plan would be if we get a decent fish that we would want to bring home.

New Club Members

The Assassin Land Based Fishing Club is looking for new members.

Are you interested in learning new fishing techniques, seeing the latest fishing tackle being used ,can you commit to fishing a competition once a month during the better months of the year .
Competitions are usually over night during better weather and between 8-10 hours during the colder/wetter months

We regularly fish the beaches North of Perth where 4wd are required for access.

If you are a keen fisherman who doesnt go much because you are lacking a fishing buddy and becoming part of a club appeals to you , send me a message and come fish with a great bunch of blokes.

Cheers Vince

Looking for a new spin rod & reel to take to Wagoe, suggestions please?

Hey guys im off to Wagoe for a long weekend in april & havent been before (although im going with some guys who have). My set up is a 14ft ozflex su40/penn 850 ss & my old penn captiva 6000 spin combo (9ft) & will be landbased. Ive heard fishing up there with big lures is the way to go, but im pretty sure my penn won't stand up to that. My budgets around $400 (for the rod & reel) & im thinking I'd like something capable of banging pretty large lures out, but at the same time not too heavy as its gonna get a fair bit of use i'd imagine. Any info/suggestions on any of the above info would be greatly appreciated guys, Cheers!
