Quobba end of September
Submitted by tomtom on Tue, 2015-08-04 19:21Hey guys! Thinking of round 2 at Quobba at the end of September. Has anyone been up around that time before? I'm keen as to do some more ballooning but still happy to spin the whole time if the winds are no good.
First time up at Quobba was june this year and there wasn't much action. I know its turned on a bit the last month or so but kinda worried that the fish will have decided to not play ball again by the time I get up there.
What do you reckon guys? Anywhere else you would recommend going around that time?

Fished coogee pier this morning
Submitted by KevHuntley on Sun, 2015-07-19 09:24Alright all , just thought id give the run down on my early morning attempts down coogie pier this morning. got there at about 4.30 and gave it a go on the bottom and little burley float with pieces of mullies and coral prawn as well as the sabiki rig when the sun eventually crept up .. but no luck.
I then added a burley cage to the bottom rig with some well presented peeled bits of prawn and caught what i thought was a whiting but it was more oval shaped than long and sleek , about the size and shape of my hand. So I thought id try my luck and chuck it on the other rod on 3 largish gang hooks .. about ten mins later the reel starts screaming as it headed towards the stinger nets and then as i tried to slow it down directly towards the shore before bedding down kinda under the jetty. Line which was 10k just broke away as i was trying to entice it back to open waters but does anyone have any idea from the way it shot to the shore what it could be ?
Anyway great run for someone who has caught nothing of worth in Australia all together and deffo gave me hope that with some heavier gear and more hours put it it wont be long before i can catch something worth while ,, anyway enjoy your sundays everyone
Oh yer if anyone has any advice on how to handle when it goes off like that , when to let it run , when to try and push back etc be much appreciated cheers

First Mulloway
Submitted by sonoftherock on Fri, 2015-07-17 13:01Caught my first Mulloway a few nights ago, at Bunker Bay... although it was a relative tiddler - didn't have my tape measure with me, but estimated at between 40-45cm. Obviously was released to fight another day!
However, within the space of 30 mins I hooked up what I believe to be the same fish 3 times! I've enclosed some pics (apologies for the poor quality - took them with my phone and wasn't well prepared!). Has this ever happened to anyone else? Thinking the second hook-up (top photo) looked a bit fatter than the others, but maybe this was on account of swallowing a couple of my mullies!? Obviously all three hook-ups were around the same size! Annoying I didn't have my measure on me... otherwise I could have avoided any ambiguity!

Off road vehicle use lano to kalbarri
Submitted by quadfisher on Sun, 2015-06-28 23:59http://rtra.asn.au/announcements/lancelin-kalbarri-report-released
This is the report done in March this year, makes for interesting reading , with some hope of some area or areas
that could be opened.
I am hoping to put up a online sign on sheet with a couple of quick statements, next week , so interested partys can sign, and then I can send
off to those concerned, expressing our support, and desire to see this happen, asap.
The part that most interests me is the possible talk of a legal coastal / beach trail, 30-60kms long, in the area, not for hooning , but for
responsable off road/ quad/ trail bike use , how good would that be.
Other parts of the world, Canada, europe, etc have them , adventure trails there called, and they bring a big boost to local economys
cheers

A special fish!
Submitted by Deacon on Sun, 2015-06-21 20:23Hi lads and lady's,
I don't post here often at all but yesterday I managed a fish I feel is worthy of a post,
I was fishing my normal rock ledge I balloon for sharks while I have the big bait out I was spinning with my 10lb setup hoping for a bonito or salmon for bait when a belting hit took me by surprise. after watching 100+ms of line melt off the sol I was pretty much certain I was attached to a solid bluefin, the pure joy and amazement when this solid shark mack popped up in the wash had to be seen to be beleaved! Now I have seen a heap diving down this way but only ever heard of a few being caught pretty happy to get my own, and yes this was taken in Albany wa!

Where to stay in Quobba
Submitted by tomtom on Mon, 2015-05-25 18:43So first Quobba trip is only a few days away, super excited! Looks like a massive place with lots of options so looking for some idea's on where is best to stay.
Mainly going for the ballooning so somewhere near some good ballooning ledges would be good. Could do with a freezer to use so guessing that leaves only quobba station or red bluff? Hookup may be good as well but not essential. Could always base myself near a freezer then head off somewhere else for a night or 2.
Any recommendations guys n girls?

How to rig bait for gas ballooning?
Submitted by tomtom on Tue, 2015-05-19 19:52Hey all, heading to Quobba in a couple of weeks. Have never fished anything like it before and struggling to find any tutorials on rigging bait for skip baiting specifically for gas ballooning. I can find lots for trawling but not sure if this is the go for gas ballooning? Guessing for the lower speeds something different and maybe quicker will be suitable.
Any tips or links to how to's would be awesome!

Snapper Time!!! (Fishwrecked Tinder?)
Submitted by Cowboy on Fri, 2015-05-15 23:40Righto you lot, who has been watching Willy Weather and Seabreeze incessantly for the past few days? (If my work checks my surfing history over the past 3 days I'm going to have some explaining to do..) Who is sitting in their backyard now watching the plants bend in the wind, wondering if its going to be enough to bring the swell up enough to bring the Snapper in close? Who has been sitting up watching a crap version of Batman while tying snooded 6/0s on 60lb paternosters?
Who has been checking their stash of frozen herring and scalies, hoping they are still fresh enough to attract some Pink attention... (Belly flap of a Salmon??)
If this is you, get in touch. Let's have a crack tomorrow night, Sunday night, and probably Monday night. The high tide is 10pm-ish, synched with the high end of the wind and swell points. (You Mulla junkies are probably thinking a bit like us...)
I fish from City Beach to basically Kwinana for Snapper, have had heaps of fun last 2yrs, but by myself...Gaffing big fish is a bitch... (Here's the Tinder bit..) Looking for a fishing mate as silly as I am... (Im married with four kids, just to get that in context...)
Would be good if any like minded souls (Obsessed clowns)want to meet up and have a crack and share ideas. We might even catch one of our hump headed nemesis if we time it right... I plan on being on a local rockwall by 5pm or so if anyone is mad enough to want to join, will fish an hour past high tide I reckon, so, a solid sesh.
Righto boys and girls, there it is, the advent of the local storms is date night! Flick me a text on 0409 298384 or PM on timcows76@yahoo.com if you want to brave the elements tomorrow until it calms down by Tuesday, I plan on being on the rocks at the peak times until then.

Quobba Gear List
Submitted by tomtom on Wed, 2015-05-13 18:33Heading up to Quobba for the first time in a couple of weeks. Never fished anything quite as extreme or remote before and would hate to get up there and realise I've forgotten heaps of stuff. Wondering if anyone had a list from previous trips I could take a look at? Tried searching but couldnt come up with anything.
Understand it's a dangerous place and will be taking a harness and rope. Have a cliff gaff, plus a rod and reel for spinning, ballooning and bottoming. All the usual tackle for Metro fishing but I have never ballooned before so that will need a slightly new array of tackle which I don't have yet.
Any help much appreciated!!

Coral Bay and South land based options
Submitted by Jorgo500exc on Sat, 2015-05-09 22:38Hi all,
Planning a 7 day land based fishing / exploration trip in mid July, starting from Exmouth and heading south. Have a very capable 4WD and plenty of good fishing gear between myself and my mate. Realy want to target some decent fish from the shore on overnighters. I am particularly interested in the coast line between Coral Bay heading South along the coast to the Bluff North of Canarvon.
- Any specific tackle that we need to take ?
- Camping on the beach - Are you allowed to ?
- Tracks and land marks of interest.?
- Looking for that " secrete spot " with a good camp and access to the beach.
Any advice is well appreciated in advance.

Quobba Trip
Submitted by Syzygy on Wed, 2015-05-06 14:36Hi All
Heading up for to Quobba 3rd week of July. Anyone travelling up there then? First time trip and looking for some advice/help. Already had some excellent advice from some members which is great. But any advice is appreciate (can pm if need be)
Will be Ballooing/Spinning/Bait Fishing - Already have a Tyrnos 30 but looking for a good rod under $200 to match it with for ballooning.
Also looking for a recommendations for a multipurpose spinning/bottom fishing rod. Currently looking at a Fin-Nor Fury 10ft 10-15kg rod and a Shimano Spheros 20000. Have roughly $400 to $500 to spend.
Thanks for any help you can give!

Lost combo

As I quickly loaded my car and took off I forgot to put my combo in the car and drove off and didn't realize until 4 pm which by the time I got back it was obviously gone I have had sad face since and the song 'baby come back' stuck in my head

Wagoe beach rig! Help!
Submitted by JacobG22 on Tue, 2015-03-31 05:23Recently spent the week end at Wagoe beach fishing, the swell was sizeable with slight onshore winds.
Using 12 ft beach rods with your typical tailor rigs, used 100lb leader with 6/0 gangs and big star sinker.
Snagged up and snapped off 8/10 times, tried about 5 spots straigt off the reef and a spot south where the reef was broken up.
The water was too dirty to see what sort of bottom we were fishing. Can anyone recommend any different rigs or certain spots?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as if love to head back up there!
cheers
