Overhead help!

Ok fellas it all started when looking at new overhead setup for ballooning, was absolutely sold on the tyrnos 50, then I thought I can kill two birds one stone with a torium, I could
learn to cast big baits when the winds aren't favourable ? Then after extensive research on a budget, the pen fathom ? Can the penn fathom b used for ballooning ??? Any suggestions or feedback would be really helpfull! The Trinidad and torsa is outa my price range :(

If you have intention of running braided like you will be able to get away with a 30 size reel, the TLD 30-2 speed or tyrnos 30 will both perform brilliantly without going overboard. They are both quite lightweight compared to other options as well which makes it so much more comfortable. At the end of the day a ballooning reel is just a workhorse and you will find yourself winding a dead weight more than anything. A two speed reel helps when you really just want to crank them in, especially when the balloon doesn't break off and you end up windind hopelessly agains the drag created by it. I would steer clear of the torium and trinidad due to the fact they are star drag, lever drag is so much more suited to this application. Don't be worried about line capacities either, most of the fights are a muscle fest unless you hook a big shark, which I just bust off anyway as I don't want one.
I run 50lb braid with 50lb topshot roughly 150m.

Ok, so your saying star drag can't b used? the Tyrnos looks the goods I will b running braid, was hoping to maybe b able to use a fathom or torium for ballooning and casting, has any one used these for ballooning? The fathom looks more bang for buck...

If your looking for a ballooning reel Im with Flangies... but if you want a casting reel the torium would be fine,depends what you mostly want to do.Star dargs can be used but the lever drags mentioned would better suit what you want to do

I have a Fin-Nor Biscayne
I have a Fin-Nor Biscayne LD25 and it has been great for the 6 months or so that Ive had it. Only down side is that it doesnt cast too well on the 5'6 boat rod I have it on. IMO you would be able to cast a lever drag fine if you have a slightly longer rod with extra leverage. LD's can also be fairly heavy which can become a bit of a hassle.

i use a tld 25 and a torium
i use a tld 25 and a torium 30 i use the torium mostly as ic an cast it a fair distance on a 10 foot crank rod i can cast the tld 25 but it tends to net a little more as it doesnts have the control the torium does

Over head casting
I use a Saltist 40H off the beach which is star drag.
For fun and humungous baits and weights I can also cast a Finn Nor Marquesa 20 which is a lever drag.
I don't reckon the type of drag applicator affects the ability to cast. More the size/weight of the spool and the rod used.
