Canning River bull sharks?
Submitted by Pob on Thu, 2011-12-08 21:24One of my aims this year is to catch a shark out of the Canning, just wondering if anyone has ever tried up near Riverton, or wether I am wasting my time having a go that far up. Not after monsters, just curious how far up they get. Cheers, Paul

All nighter tuesday night
Submitted by sherbert on Wed, 2011-12-07 20:35All three of us set off in that stormie weather for an all nighter, Arrived about 3pm and set up camp in time And then the sky opened up on us big time
Rolled the swags out and set the rods up ready for a long night fishing
Bits of weed now and again But no big deal,
Picked up some tailor and a few big rays and had some great runs, We got about 2 hours sleep and woke to a wind change
Wind moved around to the south/east by 2am So i sent out a bait under gas, and it got smashed in less than 30mins
So i put another bait on and sent it on its way west skipping across the water, Not long after the reel set the hooks And after a 350m of reeling in, A nice size bronzy whaler came up on the beach
The wind changed again and it was getting light SO it was tailor time again
Last week we hooked a big shark of about 7foot long about 350m out at sea, We got it to 20m of the beach and its tail snapped the line on us
Not sure how we would of unhooked it
Cheers steve

Busselton Fishing
Submitted by bonzi on Mon, 2011-12-05 20:55Hi I'm heading down to busselton this weekend for first time and any help or info on fishing spots and equipment would be much appreciated.
I'm taking a 12 foot rod along with two 9 footers and a couple of flick rods. May load up the kayaks so any help from kayak fishers would be great.
Info on bait, lure and soft plastic fishing.
Cheers

I need a new beach combo!
Submitted by MAINEVENT on Mon, 2011-12-05 19:38Just come back from 10 days up at Kalbarri, some good fish caught but what it has addressed is a lack of a longer & heavier casting weight beach stick. I am currently using a Nitro Surf Assassin 12' rod which is a very nice rod but really struggles to cast anything close to 3 ounces. It was also a little short for where we were fishing as the line couldnt clear the breakers. Looking for some suggestions on a rod & reel combo, I have quite a few Nitro rods and really like them, they do the Frankenstien 15' which seems like what im after in terms of quality, length & castability. Reel wise thinking something like the Windcast 5500 or possibly a Jap surf casting reel like the Shimano Aero's or something similar. Any recommendations?

Sat/Sun fishing report. Northern beach.
Submitted by pembo6 on Sun, 2011-12-04 14:58Sat/Sun fishing report. Northern beach.
Fished from sunset through to 1am Sat night with my eldest son (13). Only caught a couple of pike (or snook – don’t know the difference??), and a decent whiting.
Hit the tent at 2am and up again at 4am for a tailor bash. Glad I got up (but my son slept in!!).
After my 4th tailor for the morning, I was shouting at him to wake up. Tent was only 50m away!! Ended up getting the bag limit each plus a few huge herring. All tailor were between 40 & 50cm. Fairly decent for summer tailor i rekon?? The son could hardly reel them in, they fought so hard. The full aerial acrobatics and all. Were taking bait, poppers, metal slices. Dead calm ocean with a slight easterly breeze. We could see lightening out on the horizon. Beautiful morning.
Kept catching tailor after 8 each (total 16) and putting back. I switched to a popper with single hooks so catch and release was easy. All caught between 4.30 and 6am. Then they shut down.
And yes, we will eat all 16 fish. I have 4 hungry boys (and wife) at home!!
Photos below. We got some monster herring. Taking full mulies and fighting better than the tailor.

Lets talk about a land based game rod for a Saragossa 18000 ???
Submitted by LC8TY on Mon, 2011-11-28 15:04G'day fellas, I've just brought a Saragossa 18000 loaded with 50lb fireline and I'm looking for a rod to match.
I haven't done alot of landbased fishing and I'm going to Quobba between Xmas and the new year.
I'll need something to cast a bait but also poppers and metals as well, don't mind spending a bit for good equipment.
Something about 15-24kg or would that be too heavy for lures? 9-10 ft or longer? two piece or one?
What do you recommend

Point Samson (wickham) advice needed
Submitted by yousetouse on Wed, 2011-11-23 16:08Guys,
Normally landbased in the swan so i have no problem with rigs, bait etc for targetting bream.
Have got 3 days at point samson coming up mid jan (no wife, no kids.......)
have done a little bit of googling and apparently I am looking at predominantly getting into some Mangrove jacks. I am taking the same rod I use for bream (2-4kg I think) and will probably swap out the 3lb fireline for 10lb and use a heavier trace (maybe 20lb). Does this sound right?
Will probably start around the rock bridge at the mouth of the river. Has anyone been there? Can you walk along the shore up and down a bit (as per the red lines on the map) or am I restricted to near the road? Any other spots worth looking at?
Any advice in regards to targetting some of these or any other fish that I can expect to get at go at would be greatly appreciated....
Trev.

Quick Trip to Cape Town, South Africa
Submitted by Blue Whaler on Wed, 2011-11-23 10:08Hi guys, made a quick trip to Cape Town for me mom's 70th celebration bash. Had 2 days to try and catch something decent, no luck with that, but was still great fun fishing with some mates of mine.
Mountain location: Strand, 1ste Plaat - (close to Steenbras Mouth)
Beach location: Wolves Cliffs, in Macassar for monster Bronze Whalers.
First day headed out to the mountains for some deep spot fishing. Nice warm day with excellent conditions untill the wind turned and started howling from the south west, eventually forcing us to quit. Only excitement was my Pyjama Shark and my mate got cut his trace cut of by a decent size Thrasher Shark.
Second day ventured to try catch some monster Bronze Whalers out at Wolves Cliffs, Macassar. Had massive baits out on slides, bonito.s / whole monster mullets (see pic) / mac's / monster squids and no bite. That was untill a buddy of ours arrived at 5pm and he hooked into a monster that bit off his 250lb hook trace 50mt of the beach.
Was a good time to meet with some old friends and just enjoying the moment.

NOR overnighter report
Submitted by Rig on Tue, 2011-11-22 21:11Went for an overnight fish on Monday night with Herbie and Billy.
It started off pretty slow with weed hampering monday nights fishing.
This morning though the tailor, whiting and herring were all on the bite along with heaps of stingrays at our feed chewing the berly trail.
I caught a gummy shark and then not long after Billy's rell screemed off and we thought he was onto another ray, Herbie threw his whiting line out as a disguised sabotage which managed to get tangled around billy's line so I had to step in to mediate (untangle) and noticed a substantial mulloway thrashing in the shore break which was a surprise to us all. Billy then free from Herbie's antics wound in his prize and I dragged it up the beach as I left the gaff in the car. It was Billys first mulloway and a cracker that pulled the scales down to 13kg, well done mate.
Herbie took advantage of the strong easterly and had a whole tailor balloned out which got mauled after a while, so out went another one and after a strike that had us guessing and a long wind in a Bronzie emerged.
all in all a great session capped off by Billy

Another car-park break-in attempt NOR
Submitted by Stuey on Sun, 2011-11-06 10:46Hi guys,
Just a warning...I tried the beach at the end of Shenton Ave, Iluka yesterday (I think it's still Burns?) and was only there 1.5 hrs and my missus almost new Mondeo was vandalised by some prick trying to break in. All the trim around the door was smashed and bent - it looked like the swine had gone into a frenzy.
It's that small carpark next to the park with the barbies, when you turn right at the end of Shenton.
There was a suspicious looking white Magna wagon with no hubcaps already there at 5:30am, so I should have thought twice. I didn't see if there was anyone camping in it, but I'm guessing so because there wasn't anyone on the beach...
Worst thing is, my car is temporarily 'failing to proceed' which is why I borrowed hers, so 'er indoors is NOT HAPPY.
Anyway, I caught a 45cm tailor (on a three gang and mulie) so all was not lost...
Cheers
Stuey

Good spots down south
Submitted by axeten on Sun, 2011-10-30 18:59Hey everyone,
Going to head out for a fish this Tuesday. I live in Bunbury and have had little to no luck around here. Problem is i dont know any spots down south (i'm very much a beginner).
Has anyone got some good spots for me and a mate to try? I have a 4wd so preferably somewhere on a beach but anywhere the fish are biting would be great.
Cheers
