Hit the beach north of two rocks
Submitted by sherbert on Mon, 2012-03-05 16:44George and myself set off at 4am and got to the fishing spot at the start of first light
With a bottom rig on the rod, I pick up a nice tailor for the balloon set up later
Then i got hit by a big ray after about 20mins it was on the beach and with hooks removed put back in the water
Grorge pick up a small ray
With balloon rig out and a blue mackie as bait , Greoge seen abig fish hit the bait clean out of the water But no hookup, So in it came some 700meters And 15 mins later we reset the balloon back out to about 500meters this time
Bait got hit again by something alot smaller Maybe a shark
Had trouble with two boat comeing in close. And having to reel fast as not to get cut off
Cheers sherbie
The big ray went 800 across the wings

Chopping rod butt
Submitted by fishingaddict on Sat, 2012-03-03 15:30Hey just wondering if anyone has attempted themselves the shortening of a surf rod butt? Just wondering how hard, what tools, how much cut off etc. It would be on my 13ft sensor surf as butt is very long, i thought i read somewhere they made them long and you could shorten them but not sure if it was the sensor.
Cheers

New spinning reel
Submitted by fishingaddict on Thu, 2012-03-01 17:39Hey all,
Have been through searches but not coming up with exactly what i want, am after some reel recomendations.
Im after a spinning reel for a 13 foot sensor surf thats bit of an all rounder, mainly fishing baits (decent castability) , and throwing poppers etc.etc. Want something that matches the sensor surf but can also throw on my 11 foot spin rod. Also with a decent line capacity and drag.
I have a 4000FJ stradic which i love and was looking at the 6000FJ or 8000FJ. Trying to keep it under $300
Much appreciate others opinions
Cheers

Kalbarri Report
Submitted by Rig on Wed, 2012-02-29 09:26I spent the last few days at Kalbarri, I left the boat at home and just dedicated to landbased which proved to be a good move as the southerly didn't let up.
When I could find clear water the tailor were going mad with some memorable popper sessions catching and releasing 20 big fish 2kg+ including a bust off not far from my feet on a 6kilo+ fish that will take some getting over. Most of the tailor were released so I only have a photo of a few I kept after one session.
I tried my luck on the luchtime high tide and caught my biggest landbased sambo so far. It took a bit of getting in and at first I thought it was a big eagle ray but it kept me guessing. I have caught heaps in the boat but as I release them I have never weighed one. Anyone wanna guess how big this one was I am thinking a bit over 15kg????
Apart from that didnt see or hear of any mulloway being caught
Reccomend the gorges cafe for a fantastic breakfast

jurien bay report
Submitted by sickkkkkk on Wed, 2012-02-22 19:35myself and a couple of mates decided to head up to jurien for the weekend to do a bit of landbased fishing.
on the first night we decided to fish the jetty, had balloons out but none were taken and didn't manage any tailor only one hook up which was a white spotted shovel nose which was about 130cm.
on the second day we fished the beach north of the marina, we only picked up a couple of whiting and heaps of dart, that night we fished the jetty still didn't manage any tailor, although a small mackerel about 60cm was caught. we had 5 big hookups on the big outfits with all of them busting off.
the 3rd night we fished the south rock of the marina. we managed a couple of tailor to about 45cm. heaps of small mulloway and one big one just before sunset, caught by tom (spooledagain). we also managed a small eagle ray that night.
in the end it was quite a good weekend even though the fishing wasn't as hot as we hoped.
and is anyone able to identify the fish in the 3rd picture?

Great with his over head reel and rod, Sliding baits out for big fish
and a great 4x4 well set up to go anywere
The reason for this post is, ????He showed jeffree and myself his photos on his i phone Some great fish /sharks rays /mulloway/ Big Big tailor the list goes on
Now he did put some photos up on the site a while back, But got slagged saying the mulloway was not as big as he said it was
So no more photos from this young lad, Which is a shame
All we need is you guys to watch what you say, Cos there is more people on this site that wont post any more

Palm Beach Jetty in Rockingham
Submitted by old salt on Mon, 2012-02-13 22:24 Just out of interest whats the Palm Beach jetty in Rockingham like to fish? I'm thinking of taking my eldest daughter there to hopefully catch her first fish
She has been bugging me all month, it would be great if she caught something that fitted well in a pan.
So over to you guys ,most productive part of the jetty, best bait. I've heard the deep end has a muddy bottom?
My plan is to take 2 decent outfits and put a whole mullie and a whole banana prawn on and setting the drag, whilst supervising the little lady during the late afternoon?
