Point peron
Submitted by rails8291 on Fri, 2012-06-01 10:14Hey guys, just been searching through google maps looking to try new spots, I have come across point peron, would anyone be able to tell me abit about this spot, I'll be landbased, it looks fairly shallow on the map, with lots of reef/rocks, is it any good for fishing, and what spiecies would I encounter there at this time of year,
Any info would be helpful

Was a great night to wet a line, bit cold but no wind. But was dead quite. One run on a 3-5 kg rod... Think it was a small ray and that's it.
Anyone have any luck?

Good places to fish with kids NOR?
Submitted by Pob on Thu, 2012-05-24 12:29Just looking for some ideas of where to take the kids this saturday. I usually take them to Port Kennedy or Woodmans Point, but want to try somewhere north of the river, was thinking Yanchep lagoon, but having never fished there I dont really know. Have 4 under 10, so I get a bit limited on places which keep them happy and me not too paranoid!
Cheers, Paul.

Give us a fair go
Submitted by snapper on Tue, 2012-05-15 16:01Just started Ballooning from the beach and I get spooled by a boat that saw me waving and heard me shouting .They slowed down , looked at me and hit the gas. I lost 1000mtrs of Saltiga Boat Braid before I could get back to the rod.
If you see someone fishing off the beach that is waving and shouting have a look around and up in the sky , 3 foot brightly coloured balloons are not hard to see , if you cant go around ease off on the throttle and give us 5 minutes to pull
them in , then you can go on your way.

Few questions about catch and release fishing from Kalbarri - Exmouth
Submitted by Bungel on Mon, 2012-05-14 21:15Hi there,
Im still in the midst of planning a trip from Perth up to Exmouth in July.
I have fished Kalbarri before and know that there is a fair few spots that will allow us to fish Catch and Release quite easily.. along with a few spots that wont, where a cliff gaf of some sorts will be needed.
My questions are for the areas from Kalbarri up. I had first gone with the idea of spending some time at Steep Point, but from what i see there.. its not really Catch and Release friendly and more of a slaughter house that requires heavy line and gafs. Is this the case, or are there areas that would suit releasing fish ( ledges closer to the ocean ). What about the rest of the area up there, is it worth ignoring Steep Point and trying other parts of that Peninnsular??
Is this the same for Quobba? I have booked in there for a few days, but from what i see there should be a few areas that would be suitable and the beach fishing would be great too. While Ballooning is something i would like to try, i dont fancy bringing a 20kg Spanish Mac up the cliffs when i dont have a freezer and only need to feed two people for the 2-3 week trip. A small feed of fish once and while is the idea.
As for Exmouth, from what i have read its the best place for what we plan to do. Am i correct in thinking this?
Any specific areas that would be great for what we want to do. Lots of walking is not a problem, we plan to do HEAPS of lure casting and chase the GT's for a good while.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
George.

Winter bream'n or flathead
Submitted by rails8291 on Mon, 2012-05-14 13:31Hey guys, how are we.
Been fishing for bream and flatty the last couple of weeks with not a lot of success at all. Was fishing along the esplanade street, between canning and mt Henry bridge, and been trying for flattys around the flats at gilbet Fraser reserve,( I am landbased only) are these spots ok in winter or am I wasting my time, could someone please give me some pointers for river fishing in winter as I've only been river fishing for a couple of weeks, it's all new to me, I've sort of worked out summer is better for the river, but there has got to be something to do in the river in winter time too, anything would be great, thanks rails8291

Whippy or stiff
Submitted by rails8291 on Sat, 2012-05-12 15:56Hey fellas Have my reel sorted, now chasing a soft plastics rod,, looking at a 7ft- 2-4kg fast action, I have my eye on the new daiwa T series rod, but it seem pretty stiff compared to a few others I've tried . has anyone used one for SP and could tell me what there like, what would be better a stiffer tip or a whippy tip for throwing SP. Or does it not matter to much, any other rod suggestions would be appreciated, or any info on the tips would go a long way too. Thanks in advance Rick

Salmon Holes last weekend
Submitted by Redbucket on Tue, 2012-05-08 13:34After seeing the picture-gasm from albany posted on here the other week, we put in leave applications and took off friday. we headed down to Albany on thursday night for a fish friday morning at the Salmon holes.
We were at the holes about an hour before the feeding frenzy. At one stage we had 5 of us hooked up at the same time.
Was awesome to watch everyone ducking and diving, dancing (carefully) around on the rocks trying to keep their lines tangle free of the other boys.
We all reached our bag limits within the hour. with heaps of fish thrown back.
I tried every lure I had finally catching fish on some I paid alot for and never had any luck with .
In the end I rigged a banana with a couple of singles out the back for some fun and the salmon even hammered that!!
Unfortunately no hookups on the banana :(
My mate was very happy to have finally have caught a salmon on a bream rod with a popper. which was a milestone in his fishing career.
Went to Cheynes beach in the arvo and found some very bored looking fishermen with a bit of weed and not much happening at all. So we spent the arvo 4wd and getting to know the layout of the land a bit better for the next trip down.
Home Saturday morning with massive smiles. Great to finally see what a salmon run is all about!!!

Whitehills to preston
Submitted by Josh90 on Sat, 2012-04-28 07:52Took thursday and friday off work and planned on heading out friday to try whitehills for the first time, text my mate at 5am thursday morning after being woken up by the misses to take her to work, got a nasty reply from my mate but he was keen, we decided to head out round 10-11 and after dropping the misses off at work and doing a bit of shopping around ended up at the local tackle store and bought a new 10 foot combo, headed on down to whitehills and hit the beach drove a few km down roughly and fished a spot first cast broke the new rod in with a small whiting, continued to bring in small whiting and my mate brought in a few reef fish cod and wrasse possibly? Anyway we packed up and headed towards preston at high tide, bit of fun but wouldnt recommend it unless you are confident! Good old 100 series never lets me down, anyway hit preston carpark, drove south along the beach and found a nice gutter, first cast got a herring each, we got our fair share of herring and threw back oodles of sand whiting and a few small bream, next thing you know throw out a salmon rig pretied from the shop lol with two chunks of squid, then wham line went twang and it felt like a dead weight then boom a salmon im screaming at my mate lol first salmon ive ever hooked onto leaping out the water like a john west advert, it was intense in the excitement i had the big fella onto the shorebreak then ping i had my drag too tight the pretied hooks knot let go!?! I was devastated but it was my fault shouldve backed the drag off, a vital lesson learnt. The fish wouldve been my biggest estimated 1m long and as fat as a milo tin! Im hooked now and thats fishing you learn something new every time! And also not be a lazy c$nt and tie my own rigs haha. The salmon was hooked on the new 10fter which was awesome except the reels shit and ile use it for catching herring and other smaler critters, bought a new okuma reel, will have that spooled for next time. About 10 minutes later my mate landed a salmon about 40cm, also caught an annoying massive stingray.
emu on the beach lol
