Land based Craying
Submitted by whitesr on Wed, 2012-10-10 06:34Hello,
I was wondering if anyone has caught any crays by throwing pots from land based positions, e.g. in deeper water adjacent to reefy outcrops or rocky areas? I live in Geraldton and there are many such areas. Obviously the large crays are only accessible by boat but I was wondering if legal size are a possibility and I should invest in a pot. Thanks
Sam

Margaret River/ Busselton beginner
Submitted by Mars2atk on Sun, 2012-09-30 20:19I'm heading down to Margaret River in about a fortnight and was hoping someone could give me some tips for an amateur fisher. I've tried squidding on Busselton jetty before, but never seemed to catch anything. I've only got some hand-me-down beach rods someone from the forum kindly donated a while back and smaller rods that I normally hunt herring with.
I'm heading down with a bunch of girls who've never fished before, so even tips on what bait/lures of how to knot up a rig would be great! Also, any reccomendations on time and locations?
I'd be pretty stoked if I got tailor, or whiting, never caught them before. Don't think I'll push my luck with something massive, wouldn't knock one back though.
Much appreciated!

Floreat through to Trigg ?
Submitted by Squidring on Tue, 2012-09-25 13:16Hi Guys, new to the site , and relatively new to fishing. ( got the bug about 12 months ago )
Has anyone had any luck fishing beaches from floreat to trigg lately? I have picked up a couple of smallish mulloway 50 to 60 cm, and 1 tailor.
Also got busted off once , i assume by a shark or ray. I fish these spots purely because I dont have to travel far.
However I hear that to travel down Mandurah way or north to Mindarie/ Two Rocks will be far more productive.
I fish generally a 13 ft beach rod, ganged mulie , and sinker to suit conditions, and try to pick a channel or gutter where possible.
I will often cast a lure while the mulie sits out. Any tips to find more success at these areas ?
or is it simply a case of having to travel much further ?
Any feedback will be much appreciated. ![]()

Skippy or Whiting or something...
Submitted by kfish on Fri, 2012-09-14 14:49Is there anywhere land based where I can throw some plastics in for skippy or similar, just want to go have some fun on the ultra light gear. Have been breaming and chasing flathead but things are slow as they arn't really on the bite.
I've seen skippy inside Hillarys where all the resturaunts are but not keen on going in there because it's always packed..
Ps. not keeping any fish...

PB Tailor
Submitted by Zoggy84 on Sun, 2012-09-02 21:49Finally caught something bloody decent!!!
Headed out with old mate which i hadnt seen in almost 5 or more yrs. Got to the spot and not even a nibble the sun was falling fast and out of the blue all these bait fish went nuts i grabbed me rod which had my 2 dolla chinese popper and casted it straite in to the fish. Within a few seconds the first of 2 fish was on. All went dead for about 5-10 minutes with us both now throwing poppers out wen another bunch of jumping bait came thru again ive hooked on this time a little smaller. Nothing else after that So in the end I ended up with a 53cm and 46cm tailor both bigger than my 30 cm from Dunsbourgh last yr and also first ever fish on a popper for me :) So a big thank u to wade for draggin my ass of the couch.

Beach fishing with crabs as bait
Submitted by Rig on Sun, 2012-09-02 15:01Hey Guys
I was just thinking about some baits I have been using off the beach over the last few years. In the midwest those little sand crabs that make the holes everywhere seem to me like a reasonable snack for a mulloway/snapper/dhu at the right spots off the beach. I have tried using them when i can catch one but havent had any hookups. Has anyone had any success with these?

First Squid
Submitted by Zoggy84 on Fri, 2012-08-31 10:05After the birth of our son last week i have had no time to head out and have a fish. So ploddin round home the Missus kindly gave me my leave pass to head out for the night. So i headed down to the Tackle shop to get some new line on 1 of my reels grab some bait and headed to hilliarys. Went to the left of the platform there and noticed some squid so grabbed me other rod chucked on a jig and bang 15sec later i had my first squid. And didnt get inked on so was quite stoked. Photo wont upload but i was pretty happy with it the hood wld have been approx 25cm. Also caught my first Metro Flathead which went 33cm and a small whiting which went back out on the big line and was smashed within an hr. So with a big smile i came home and proved the missus wrong that i can get a squid hahaha.

good place to get garfish
Submitted by kev0 on Wed, 2012-08-29 18:57Hey guys n chicks, looking to catch some garfish for bait as i'm going up to horrocks in a couple of weeks for a fishing trip with the boys. i've done some research and have been told that garfish are a great tailor bait. would love to know where i can go to catch some. south of the river would be great. i've already got some herring some whiting and some small bait fish from ammo jetty (does anyone know what these are, little silver things only got a couple as i don't know what they are) . also does freezing the bait ruin it.
is this a good season to catch tailor as i'm real keen to catch some would also like some mulloway, any tips on finding a good spot for tailor and or mulloway would be appreciated
would also like to hear from anyone that's been to horrocks, would love to know what to expect and any good spots (if your will to give that info away). lookin at fishing near the river. i'm so excited about this trip it's all i can think of and it's still 2 weeks away, i'm dieing
