Line gaff wanted

Hi guys,

Trying to get hold of a line gaff similar to the pic attached.

Has anyone seen one of these in a Perth shop recently or know where they might exist?  Struggling to find one without driving all over the country side.

Cheers

Matt

Fishing 28/06/2011

Decided to hit a new spot tonight - to my dismay - lost tackle - and had loads of weed - however had great fun catching sharks.

Caught a nice Port Jackson Shark of 95cm (dead weight - she is!) and another Gummy Shark of 112cm and about 4 different looking catsharks. All released.

No bread and butter for me but at least trying the different spots gives me some indication as to whats going on. Pleasant session - started at 6pm and finished at 930pm.

Cheers

Fishing Jurien Bay

Hey guys planning a boys weekend fishing at Jurien Bay around the start off Aug anyone know what the fishing is like around that time

Thanks

Preston Beach

Thinking of hitting preston beach this saturday afternoon thru till sunday morning, we've fished there once before, but just want some advice as the swell is upto 3.7m sat afternoon/night coming down to 2.4m sunday morning going by willyweather.

As its a narrow beach, will we have problems with the 4x4? will the sand be too soft and will we get thru if the waves are coming up further than normal?

just asking some advice from fisho's who have been there before in large swells, to find out if we will be wasting our time or not.

Might not do much fishing till after midnight when it settles down a bit anyway.

Cheers

Tony

Another Monster Cob (Mulloway) caught in South Africa

She weighs 74kg, caught on live bait. The angler kept the fish as she died on the beach, the fight took too much out of her. A catch of a lifetime !!!

(Gamtoos River)

Added 2 pic - does not do justice - to get the true size -  as the fish is still bend at the tail..

Lowlands and West Cape Howe. ??

Hello,

I have another few days off comming up and have been looking into heading down south again.

Spent a few hours trying to identify an area i found when i was down there last.. and from Google Earth it looks like its the point around Lowlands. There is an easy walk down to one of the beaches there, and from what i remember it looked fairly easy to access the rocks around to the west (the first point inbetween the two beaches there). But what i have also seen is a fair number of decent looking tracks that would give suitable access to the further souther and western area between Lowlands and Nullaki.

Does anyone have experience around this area and can help me out?? Im probebly going to head down to that area for 3 days and would like to do a fair bit more exploring and chase a few big fish down there.

I have also had a fair look around the West Cape Howe area, a few tracks there going out to the various points. How are they to drive??

Any info is appreciated... especially about the road/track access and fishability of that area.  Got the Patrol now, so im up for a bit of 4x4 action.

Cheers,

George.

Fishing last night 25/6/2011

Went down last night to wet a line at a local beach NOR. Weather was good, water was warm and not very choppy at all.

First cast - dropped a fish, 2nd cast - dropped again - and now I was fairly grumpy - realised my setup was wrong and changed it quickly - first cast out and caught a nice tailor of 44cm - this on my heavy gear with a Toruim 30. Took my light gear (Toruim 14) and cast out about 80mt. Put my rod in its rodholder and when I turned around she screamed off. Had about a hard attack. Lifted rod out and slowly applied more drag and set the hooks. Brought her in to about 20mt offshore when she turned again and took another run of about 10mt, then all over. A nice gummy shark 110cm - and my 1st. Thanks to Reese who pointed out that it was a gummy - as I was not entirly sure.

Kept the tailor for the pan, released the gummy to fight another day.

Also caught a herring on a size 5 hook - who said the hooks are to big! All in all a great night with a lot of activity in the water. Went home when it started raining at about 11pm.

Cheers

Small Sharks?

I want to hook a small shark. Wondering if this rig will work? I’m running 10kg line on a 10’ uglystik, and the tooth proof is just 12 kgs. Fishing around Albany.

I am aware that the wire will probably be mangled after a fish or two.

If so what bait and what size of bait should be put on? If not where is a good place to start with gear/rigs?

Nice Greenback

Hey Folks

Headed up to S Bend for the weekend with beautiful wind conditions but a huge swell making most of the reef platforms to dangerous to fish which was lucky for me because I left a tray containing most of my poppers at home.  Fished some of my favoured beaches and caught quite a few tailor to 2kg, big dart, wobbegong (15 for the weekend), rays and a cobbler.  Ringy35 joined me for a few sessions and he got amongst the action catching some of the forementioned species also a shovelnose and a small threadfin salmon that was out of position by several 100 kilometres.

The final morning came and after a small sleep in I tried a spot I had driven past for years and found it to be full of big angry fish.  I got reefed twice around a bombie and lost a heap of rigs due to snaggy ground but manged to deck a nice greeenback of 74cm and just under 4kg whole.  I gilled and gutted it and entered it into my fishing clubs open competition.

Two big tailor lander on the weekend

Only went 64cm The other went 70cm, The worse think was, It was not myself or colin hay

So guys the big ones are around [Metro]

Need advice - Toruim 14 needs repair - service in Perth??

Hi guys;

Did a search and got no info. I think my light surf gear is busy packing up on me.

My Toruim 14 needs a bush replaced / or replaced by bearing and I need the handle repaired. Any recommendations for a Perth based repair??

Targeting Species

I'm keen to catch as many kinds of fish there are. If I'm trying to catch different species, do I really need to just target one that day?

Mulloway south side?

Anyone getting any Mulloway through secret harbour singleton or Madora bay recently ? Cheers

Wyndham info ?

Heading up to wyndham tomorrow for work, and was hoping to get a few pointers on fishing around that area.

Obviously I know i need to steer clear of the banks/beaches due to the big lizards.

But due to the fact im up there for work (12 hour days ) im pretty much limited to fishing the evenings !!! im guessing this pretty much rules out artificials or am i wrong there ?!?!

ill have a good collection of lures and poppers to use during my lunch break, but whats my best option after dark??

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

Snapper weather

With this 'orrible weather it looks like snapper fishing is the only good way to get a fishing fix this week. Have done the north mole thing to death and have only ever got the one decent one there. Any suggestions for a new SOR spot? LOL, please don't suggest south mole .

Bunbury spots? and newbie info

Hey guys,

I tried looking for a forum search button but the one at the top only seems to do a google search?

Anyway, I've just started fishing a few weeks ago. Last time i went out before that i was about 12 and dont think i did much other than reel fish in and give the rod to dad.

I was wondering where abouts near Bunbury people are going fishing? We have tried the rocks at the back beach, strathum/peppy beach, binningup and a few others.

I'm only just starting to read up about gutters and banks etc and reading the beach to find spots. My mate has been fishing for a while but i've come to the conclusion that he doesnt know how to read the surf since we snapped 4 rigs in 4 casts at the beach yesterday (very rocky).

Lastly, is there a site that explains more about fishing conditions like, low/high tide, time of day, wind direction, swell etc?

Any help or links to websites would be great. Maybe even some good spots nearby to go :)

Cheers

Alex

Long weekend S Bend report

Hi Guys

Went up to S bend for my club fishing comp there was a couple of other clubs up there also with all anglers finding the conditions tough with most of the reliable spots weeded up to the eyeballs and not alot of fish on offer.

I fished the first morning befre the comp started for a few wobbygong and rays one of the fellas caught a cracker eagle ray 50kg+ estimated.  I also picked up a nice dart that morning but before the allocated comp start time so it was dispatched to the frying pan.

The first 24hrs of the comp was endless weed and no action, I caught up with a few members at lucys the following morning and a couple of tailor were all they had to show and morale was dropping.  I managed to also pull a tailor and a few undersize reef fish out of there and had a couple of biiger ones reef me.

I later went down to some beaches south of flat rocks and managed to get a nice 1.5kg greenback and another smaller one before the weed shut it down.

Next morning back to the same spot and got a bigger greenback who gilled and gutted came in at just under 2kg so up to about 2.5kg whole, I also managed a couple more tailor and a few nice dart, then tradgedy I dropped a pretty decent suspected mulloway after the big head shakes and a screaming run the hooks pulled or it somehow spat it.  My drag was unfortunately a bit tight form all the weed I had been dragging in and I couldnt back it off in time, lesson learnt!

I raced back to the weigh in to find that nobody had caught much more and I was able to take out the event.  I think I am gonna have another crack up there in a couple of weekends as I have unfinished business

Heres the few tailor I kept, gave the rest of the fish away to a few empty handed anglers

Pop pop pop..tailor!! and today a bigger one :) and now a couple of mulloway:)

I've been hoping to get a Tailor on the lure since I arrived in Kalbarri a few days ago. First session a decent one took an x rap, jumped and spat the hooks! second session nothing but third session a tailor at last took the popper! Not the world's biggest fish but very welcome all the same! hopefully the beast will come in the next few days!!

all the best, Scott

Went out earlier and had a great session on the lures. Four good sized tailor nailed the popper and i managed to land one of these. The other three somehow managed to throw the hook after i thought they were done! Ha ha never know until they are on dry land. Then got a lovely fish of 74 cm on a shallow diving minnow. I saw some small herring or something similar jumping for their lives so threw the minnow in the middle of the commotion and BANG! big Tailor!

Wagoe Newbie

Heading up to Wagoe in a few weeks, and hoping to get any advice for a first timer like me.

Any advice is appreciated, particularly minimum gear requirements.

I have 10 & 12 ft surf rods but may like to try ballooning......what would be minimum requirements as far as Rod, Reel, line etc etc for ballooning.

Thanks

Some tips?

Hey guys, I’m reasonably new to salt water fishing, and I’m liking it. I have done a bit of fishing in dams, lakes, and rivers in central Canada. I’ve chucked around heaps of lures, but live bait back home is illegal. I’ve just gotten used to using bait and starting to try live bait out here.

I’m heading 100kms east of Albany for the long weekend.  I have fished out there numerous times before with my girlfriend and her mom. They normally just fish for herring, whiting, and skippy from the rocks. I’m looking to try for something that will put up a bit more of a fight. I have some basic knowledge of what fish are out there and how to catch them, but just need some fine print.  Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Dongara to Gero any seaweed reports?

Hi

Heading to Sbend this weekend and was wondering if much weed got washed in with the recent bad weather.

cheers

Catching Salmon & Bait Advice

OK - so I went to one of the local beaches fishing off the rocks and caught some herring / gardies - then spottes salmon around the rocks and got all excited. Pulled out my line, change leader and hooks and tried all kind of baits (dead) and the salmon gave no interest!! - at one stage they were 5mt away from me!! - very frustrating - good size salmon!

In this situation - what would your advice be on bait selection and or / using a lure??

What can I fish/target with a Rapala Skitter Pop Sp-7 Fire tiger

Hey fisho,

Need your advice. I got given a Rapala Skitter Pop Sp-7 Firetiger a while ago but have not even try it out yet.

I wanted to use it but have no idea what fish to target. Can this lure be used targeting bream along the Swan river?  or Can this lure be used at jetty and/or beach targetting salwater species such as tailor?

Any idea?

Cheers

Sim
