Two Rocks Yesterday
Submitted by Geotechjoe on Mon, 2011-05-16 07:16Well, this is my first post on this forum, thought I'd share my efforts yesterday! In my line of work the misses are just as important as the hits; this one counts as a miss!
Anyway, I took the girls to get out of the house and headed up to Two Rocks. Went up by Marmion, but must admit, I'm still a fan of Wanneroo Road. Had a bit of a nosey down Pipdinny road. Lot's of bikes around. Even though I had a cruiser, I didn't really have a plan. Has anyone been directly to the beach from this road? What's the track like?
So we headed up to "The Spot", went north up the beach a little way. Saw a bit of weed in the water, so thought I was avoiding that. Not likely. I rigged up gangs with star sinker, only to pull a lump of kelp in. After numerous rigs, I ended up with a floating mulie and bit of cork rig to try and float above the weed. No luck there either.
So I packed up the girls and headed up to the south side of the marina at Two Rocks, north side of the big rock. Looked weed-free, but once again lot's of piles of kelp! Another bloke fishing south side of the rock, was doing a similar thing, I think he and I left a little disappointed!
The funny thing about it all, was you thought you were picking out gaps, but it just didn't matter!
I've been following the salmon discussion on the forum, and have to agree, the water was nice and warm for me, too warm for those fish!
I don't get out fishing much, so don't expect too many reports from me!
Fish well,
Joe

Kalbarri stickbaiting Tailor.
Submitted by Kris on Sun, 2011-05-15 16:42Hey guys,
Decided to do a quick Kalbarri trip over the weekend. With only 1 day and night fishing we decided we would spin for Tailor using stickbaits during the morning and arvo then head north of the river and soak some big baits for Mulloway during the night.
We fished a spot that has produced heaps of tailor for us in the past. With in 5 minutes of spinning Blake was on landing a nice Tailor around 70cm. Over the next hour or so we landed 5 and lost a few more with one straightening out my hooks on my treble.
With the weather making a turn for the worse it started raining so we decided to head south and focus our fishing there for the night. Fishing was kinda quiet with one soapy and plenty of rigs lost to sharks. After an uncomforatble sleep in the car for the night we were back on our way back to Perth pretty satisfied with the days fishing.
Hope you like the photo's.

Welcome to join me at Quinns Beach for a avo / night bash Friday 13th
Submitted by Blue Whaler on Wed, 2011-05-11 16:36Hi guys - seeing that the Easter bash fell though I am itching to go wet a line or two. I have loads of bait to feed the fish. Got to get rid of this.
I am going to hit Quinns Rock Beach this Friday from about 530pm till late. Weather looks ok. Easterly wind - not ideal - moderate strength, if anything at all, will give you extra distance when casting. High tide 6.58pm.
Anyone welcome to join. Walkway down to beach at the CNR of Pearce and Ocean Drive in Quinns.
I will have my backpack frame to identify me with: http://fishwrecked.com/forum/tackle-backpack-landbased-fishing
Cheers

Four wheels drives and quads dont mixed
Submitted by sherbert on Tue, 2011-05-10 13:35Myself and colin hay was heading back from our fishing spot, Came to a narrow dirt road with bush each side of the road
And from about 8 foot away a quad came flying around from behind the bush, [And I stopped the car straight away,] but he was going so fast he bounced off the bullbar, And tried to drive in to the bush on the drivers side of me and ended going down my drivers door And stopping right by the window
He bent my bullbar /STEEL/ Smashed my windsheld and made some dents all along the drivers side Plus bonnet
His bike was rideable, But he had sore ribs///// But could of been killed if he hit the bullbar in the middle
And the guy had no insurance
So beware guys, Cos this could happen to you

Over nighter Kalbarri
Submitted by Ringy35 on Sat, 2011-05-07 23:15Hey guys, i am planning to head up around Kalbarri area next weekend. i have never been up that far before and was wondering if there is any good spots that you can set up camp, stay the night and fish off the rocks not to far away from base... would preferably like to stay out of the town itself and if its not asking to much not have 50 blokes fishin the same water at the same time!!! I have a 4x4 so access is not a problem.
Not really headin up there to target a particular fish but just to get away, any fish caught will be a bonus.
Can anyone help me with this???

Grapnel Sinkers How I make them
Submitted by grantarctic1 on Thu, 2011-04-21 17:14Finaly got my moulds from the UK this week and managed to make a few today.
Started by making a jig to make the loops, i used old bike spokes as i could not find the right wire today.
This was a bit tricky at first, but im sure the more i make the better they will look.
Next i made another jig to hold the moulds in place while i poured the lead
I also sprayed a bit of cooking oil inside them to help the sinkers come out of the mould
I set up my work bench and started to melt the lead. (making sure the area was well venilated )
First set that came out were a bit layered as the moulds were too cold, but they were ok not the best looking tho.
I cut of the excess lead and started putting the break away wires in place.
The finished sinker.
After an hour i had 12 sinkers ready for the tackle box and a trip down south.
I didn't bend the wires out so they will fit in a tackle tray. I just bend them when i need them.
Another pic of the gear i used to make them
The moulds weren't cheap but after one session i paid of 1/3 the cost.
The only real problem i had was not being able to pour the lead fast enough. So i didn't get real clean looking sinkers, i'm going to change the melting pot a bit to solve this . ( also i didn't drink enough beer so was a bit shakky doing the pour, i will also rectify this prob next time lol.)
Cheers Grant...

Easter Weekend Bash
Submitted by Blue Whaler on Mon, 2011-04-18 09:42I know a lot of guys are shooting of North and South. For the pleps that stay - wondering if we should not put a evening bash together??
Was thinking one of the Northern beaches??
Let me know your thoughts - would really just be fun to get out and get the lines wet / maybe a bbq as well on a beach?? - I wanna slide a tuna head anyway and leave it in for 3 -4 hours and see if we cant stir up the waters.
Cheers
J
(Was thinking to try 2 x rods - 1 x big and the other for tailor / mulloway)

Light tackle landbased fun / ID Specie
Submitted by Blue Whaler on Thu, 2011-04-14 09:25Had some fun on light tackle at Mindarie Marina, south wall. Bait used was squid and pilchard. (All fish released, even the million puffies.)
Have a look at the 2 pics and confirm if I am correct. The first, Silver / Black Bream? - 2nd Western Devil?
Anyway - all caught on a 8ft Adre Graphite with 4.5kg casting fireline. Heaps off fun.

Iv done of plenty of landbased fishing off the beaches in Gero (where i used to live) and the surrounding area, catching big tailor and mulloway. Just wonderng if theres any specific differenes with the colder water and what to look for or if there are any good spots worth trying. :)
