Landbased Fishing Forum
Hello all, I'm new to the forum and Perth, a couple of questions...
Submitted by richardharris51 on Thu, 2011-03-03 23:33Hello To the people of Wa, I have been a member of fish wrecked for a few weeks now, however this is my first post.
I have been I'n wa for a couple of weeks now after driving over from Victoria and have been really fortunate to fish some great locations like walpoll and Albany. I also fished the metro area last weekend namely Brighton and city beach as well as Claremount jetty ( god damm puffers, what's the crack with them?)
Anyway my question is: As its the long weekend coming up, what are some good Land based locations approximately 2-3 hrs north of perth where I can take the camper van away and stay close to the beach to do some surf OR estuary fishing
Any local knowledge would be much appreciated
Cheers
Richard Harris

Black bream, lures and kids?
Submitted by Depth_Charge on Thu, 2011-03-03 15:12Recently I've taken my 8 and 11yo daughters fishing around the Swan River, targeting black bream around the Guildford area.
We've used bait (whole river prawns), but my 11yo saw a couple of really old lures in my tacklebox and asked to try those. I was worried she would find lure fishing frustrating and lose some enthusiasm so said "keep using bait".
She keeps asking after lure fishing and when we watch fishing TV she is always pointing out lure caught fish, so I'm going to grab a couple new lures to try.
Can anyone recommend some good lures for Bream, and some tips on how to teach a child (and me) to use them effectively? I've always just used baits, the lures I collected as part of "fishing packs" and never really got into them.
Thanks!

First one taken on a whole tailor a couple of weeks ago, second on herring last night. Thought it would be something much bigger when the drag went on that tailor bait. Cant seem to get anything bigger this year....

Cervantes fishing
Submitted by Mick71 on Wed, 2011-02-09 22:34Hi people, I'm going up to Cervantes this weekend (never been that far north yet ) and was wondering what the fishing is like off the beach, and if it is better to go North or South of the town, and what times are best, morning or evening? We will be staying at the caravan park with the family.
I don't need all the fishing secrets that all of you hold so dear to your heart just a couple of pointers !!
Thanks

Hill River to Pippidinny Report
Submitted by buschy on Tue, 2011-02-08 20:50Hey folks,
Just a quick report. Went up to Hill River on the weekend with plans of fishing overnight but there was a fair bit of weed around making life difficult. Still managed a couple of small tailor and a few herring. Headed over to Cervantes later in the night and fished the back beach (no luck - full of weed), jetty (snook, herring, nothing bigger about) and up at the flashing light for the rest of the night (nothing but water was pretty clean).
Went to Seabird for most of the following day and fished the main beach for a small ray - not sure what type but had a lot of blue colouring on the fins. A couple of tailor hits but missed the hookups and again the weed caused problems for much of the day.
Finished up at Pippidinny for a sundown session and no luck there. A little bit of weed around but not too bad. The beaches from there through to Club Capricorn looked pretty clean of weed so probably OK for a fish at the moment - esecially given these easterlies we have had the last few days.
Seriously....where the hell is my mulloway????? :-(

Steep Point report finally!!!!
Submitted by Rig on Fri, 2011-01-28 17:43Hi everyone here it finally is
Along with fellow forum members Johnray, Sherbert and Max199 we did a trip up to Steep point. Kicked off sunday the 16th Jan leaving sherb's house at 9pm and had a quiet trip (traffic) up to the point dodging a few roos along the way. Actually I should point out it wasnt that quiet over the 2 way with plenty of banter, Bulls%@t and innnapropriate jokes most of the way up but that is customary of many a good fishing trip.
Arriving at the point about 8am monday morning we set up camp in blistering heat and no sleep for over 24hrs and then to punish ourselves we moved camp after the spot we setup in front of proved to be too crowded. By this stage Max and I i had done all the driving we thought we might take it easy and sit down with a beverage while Ray sent out a balloon and pretty quickly had 2 spaniards on the rocks.
the following day with a 4am start had us spinning up heaps of shark mackeral, tuna and other small mackies dog's spotted etc once the sun was well and truly up the spaniards came to play smashing both lures and ballooned baits most of the day and this continued day after day what a trip.
one morning I offered to swap spots with Sherbs as we put him into isolation due to his unorthodox kamikaze ballooning technique so It started off pretty quietly for me with people hooking up all around and a 3-4m arial right in front of me and Sherbs absolutely killing it on balloon. After copping some critisism about catching 0 for the day i hooked up on a runt 7kg mackie and then noticed most of the crew were heading to the filleting table or shade as the midday sun was beating down. So I moved back to my usual spot the wind had increased to 25+ knots and I sent out a heavy semi frozen balloon bait and worked it hard only to have it smashed for no hookup and this happened another 3 times until my bait got monstered by a big angry mackie 1m out of the water and probably in the top 2 strikes I have ever seen. After about a 15 min battle i had it cliff side and gaffed by Johnray and much to my delight It was a spaniola estimated 25-28kg. After seeing this the boys were sending balloons out left right and centre and nabbed a couple more but I relaxed for the day with a beer knowing it had made my trip.
The following day the weather changed and we fished a different spot for not too much and I was 10m from spooled on a fish that liked my lure and wasnt coming back which means I probably need to think about upgrading my spin combo. Sherbs nailed a few pinkies when everyone was sleeping at 2am but there are no photos so draw your own conclusions lol we had out trip limit and didnt need them.
Higlights of the trip
Max caught the best spaniard spinning about 18kg
Me best spaniard on balloon 25-28kg
Johnray attempting the world landbased game record time on a 10kg long tail tuna....... It punished him for about 45 minutes
Cupcake most sleep on the trip.
Sherbs for nearly getting spooled on a 50tw by a fish that was called for a mackie but turned out to be a NW blowie
Johnray and Max for the gorrillas in the mist re-enactment (shower time on the cliff)
Johnray for filleting everything on his custom made filleting table
These are some photos I am allowed to use by sherbs as he has bigger plans for the good quality ones so I apologise for any blood, poor quality etc

West Cape Howe
Submitted by LandyAndy on Mon, 2011-01-24 19:29Hi Guys.
Anybody got any website links to the tracks and fishing spots in West Cape Howe???
OR pics from fishing expaditions down there.
Particularly interested in "The Steps"
Precious little turns up on Google.
Have been told about great fishing at the steps over the last 5 years.I last went to Albany 2 years ago,it was on the cards to fish there but ended up having to rescue a workmates vehicle from Bornholme on the day the weather was best to fish there, after that we got the normal south coast crappy weather.
The same said ex workmate has been fishing there with another workmate,a few weeks ago and last weekend, they managed a Queenie last weekend(the pair of them couldnt manage to buy a fish in a fish mongers emporioum!!!!)
Would like any info,Im ready to visit the south coast again.
