Airmar B60 replacement nut
Submitted by greasemonkey on Fri, 2017-08-25 11:33Hi everyone,
I am just wondering if anyone has ever had to replace the locking nut on a B60 tranny before?
I have found a part number (02-133-01) that seems to only be available in USA so I thought I would ask if anyone has found one here in Aus.
Whilst talking trannies - can anyone give a recommendation of some tranny installation guru's here in perth? I have not had much luck so far and Im nearly at the point of just paying someone to get it right.
Thanks
JOEL

Can you stop waves affecting the floor on the sounder ? I have a lowrance elite 4x hdi
Submitted by Bdcmurray on Wed, 2017-08-02 22:27Is there a way to make the floor of the ocean stay flat while waves and swell push the boat up and down it sounds like a Newby question and I feel kinda stupid asking but makes it very hard reading the bottom when every time a swell wave goes through your picture jumps up and down by the same amount is it possible or is there some trick I am missing ? help .......

Nss7 evo3 with Airmar tm 185 w
Submitted by jackmulloway on Wed, 2017-07-26 15:14Hey Guys i am thinking of upgrading my GPS/ sounder i was thinking of getting the new Nss7 evo3 and matching it up with a 1kw transducer.
i want to try and get the best of both worlds, fishing in 200m and picking up pelagics in midwater when trolling.
Any suggestions??
I have heard that the lowrance HDS only has a output of 500w so wouldnt be worth running a 1 kw transducer.

New sounder setup
Submitted by surfs_up on Sat, 2017-07-01 15:17Hi all,
I've recently upgraded my sounder to a Lowrance elite TI 7, it's the first time I've changed sounder since buying the boat. I'm just wondering if I need to put the boat in the water before I turn it on and set it up? Or can i set it up and load maps etc onto it now? Ive always been told not to use the sounder if I'm not in the water as it heats up, but I don't wanna have to launch the boat then spend an hour playing around with it first.
Cheers

Adjusting gain
Submitted by donlovesfishing on Mon, 2017-05-01 12:52Hi guys, I have a furuno Fvc 627 sound and am trying to get my setting right. I have managed to set my range, bottom lock and 5 meter setting ok but can't adjust the gain when in that screen as it says auto. I found this pic on line and it is set to adjust gain. Anyone know how to get my manual setting once in the bottom lock screen?

Lowrance GPS not working (help needed)
Submitted by TAPOUT on Mon, 2017-05-01 06:46Hi all. I have just purchased a second hand lowrance GPS LMS 525. I have the LGC-3000 receiver but cannot get the unit to pick up the receiver. I have the T price and cables to suit but still not working. Any ideas? Maybe someone has the same receiver I can try plugging in to rule out my receiver being stuffed. Also on another note I have the (HDS 5X gen 2) and cannot get it off split screen. I've googled it but still can't figure it out.
I would appreciate any help. Cheers

Deep Drop Pics
Submitted by battjn on Thu, 2017-04-20 19:54First crack at the Deep Drop out from Bunbury the other day (Yes it's a bloody long way!) With the forecast looking almost perfect I couldn't resist a day out in the deep. Unfortunately I came home with nothing in the way of any deep drop species but I'm hoping to get some thoughts on some sounder shots from the trip for next time. Im running my 295 TVG LF setting at 8 and depth set to 180. I'm not sure if this is the best for where I was fishing? Either way I learn't a few things and I'm keen to try this next time I get out
I'm Thinking the returns at the bottom of the drop off are too weak. Not dense enough.

Transducer id??
Submitted by silly on Fri, 2017-02-24 11:48Anyone know what in hull transducer this is? It came with my trailcraft and is plastic thru hull. The sounder was a old school furuno FCV 667 video of that's any help? Looking at either converting to current furuno 10pin ( for back up to a TM)or replacement.
Or is there anyway I can find out? Can't see any markings on it?

Touchscreen vs Pushbutton sounder/plotter
Submitted by samd on Mon, 2017-02-20 19:09Hi guys,
I am in the market for a MFD, and I am stuck choosing between the Garmin GPSMAP 1222xsv and the GPSMAP 7410xsv. The 7410 is touchscreen and marginally cheaper, but the 1222 has the larger screen at a good price point.
I guess the main questions are, is the 12' vs 10' screen worth giving up touchscreen ability, and are touchscreens worth it?
I often bait fish, and when im jigging and trolling I wear gloves. My concern with touchscreen is it will get dirty and hard to read, and will it work with gloves and messy hands? Also how does the sensitivity of the screen go long term? My experience is the more there is to go wrong the more that will, and im concerned 3-5 years down the track my 4K worth of MFD will be a challenge to use of it loses sensitivity. Whereas a button unit can easily have the keys repaired/replaced.
Any experience/opinion is welcome as this will be a significant purchase!
Thanks!

Sounder help
Submitted by Carry on Sat, 2017-02-18 10:49Gday all just wondering if someone can help with whats going on with my sounder .
This photo was taken off exmouth and it was a bit rough on that particular day . Even when it was calm i would get the same readings and couldnt seem to sound up fish. In the shallower water i can sound ground up at about 15 to 18kn any faster and it drops out intermittently.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers Tim

Colour differences in bottom readings
Submitted by CC106 on Sun, 2017-02-12 14:36hi all
Would love to know what everyone's opinions are on the differences in colours on bottom readings are.
I run a Garmin 1020xs and I am still new to the unit, I would like to know what colours are associated with what type of bottom I am reading. What colour does soft coral show up as, sand, gravel etc.

Garmin Striker series
Submitted by Ashen on Tue, 2017-01-24 17:41Hi guys
Wanting to add a 7" sounder/fishfinder to the boat. Heading towards the Garmin Striker 7SV. Has chirp/downvu, sideview etc.
Anyone have experience with these? How does it perform up to 100-150m deep?
I'm aware that it is not a fully fledged combo (has basic mapping etc).
Will be using another unit for GPS.
Thanks

Electrical interference
Submitted by ChrisG on Tue, 2016-12-27 11:54hello, wondering if anyone has any ideas of cause and how to fix?
have recently installed a 1kw tranny on my head unit.
Previously had two different types of 600w trannys with no issues whatsoever.
the issue is that I get a single line of what I think is electrical interference when I kick the motor into gear from neutral, and sometimes immediately when just starting to accelerate from a constant speed eg moving from 10 to 15kts quickly.
The interference is only very minor eg a single vertical line from top to bottom of screen, or smaller vertical line mid water or even below sea bottom. It's only intermittent...somtimes just one fine line or a couple of fine lines in the time it takes for a full screen scroll/refresh, then it goes away. Very rarely it also happens at cruise at a constant speed but not often.
not a massive deal and the increase in picture quality from the bigger tranny more than makes up for it, BUT it gives me the Sh!ts no knowing what causing it or how to fix it!
as I said never happened in the past, only since installing the 1kw tranny.
head unit is wired into batteries with no common wiring shared with anything else.
i was thinking a couple of potential causes, wondering what others think??
-increase in revs causes alternator to put out more into battery and that spike shows on screen?
-increase in revs/amps causes interference with the 1kw sounding?
-interference between sounder cable and other electrical cables in conduit (but didn't occur with other tannys)?
-batteries on way out and increase in power draw from new tranny is causing minor spike when alternator increases output (happens on both batteries thou even when completely isolated from each other, so don't think so)?
-other cause?
Is DownVu / ClearVu worth the extra $$$s?
Submitted by Zano_1980 on Sun, 2016-12-25 17:13Got enough vouchers for the new GPS Sounder. Thanks Santa. Don't need anything spectacular as its only a 4.3m boat and I have 30 years of proven numbers from the area to use. Looking at the Garmin Striker 4 or 4dv.

Hummingbird problem
Submitted by kirky79 on Thu, 2016-11-24 13:34Hey guys,
My brother in law was out last night netting. When he went to leave he found that his Hummingbird 917 combo sounder/GPS. Wouldn't show any maps, couldn't even get the maps in the menu. He was saying that if he hit the MOB button it would just come up with zeroes for the co ords. Just throwing it out there if any of you that have had a similar problem, is it fixable? Or time for a new one.
Cheers
Chris.

Furuno 628/P66 Special
Submitted by Darren253 on Mon, 2016-10-03 12:26I received quite a few PM's from people asking where I got my Furuno 628 combo deal from.
A week after I bought mine the price went back up by $300, but marine-deals.com have a weekly special on the FCV628/P66 combo ex stock, in Australia for $999. Free traceable delivery by toll to Perth in 4 days.
That's cheaper than I could find even out of the USA.

Low Medium vs Low High Frequency trannys
Submitted by CC106 on Thu, 2016-09-15 18:45Interested to know more about frequencys that people are using.
might be upgrading transducer to a 1kW and would like to know thoughts about the low/med frequency transducers. Low 42-65 Med 85-135.
are there more limitations with these or are there more benefits fishing depths that range from shallow 20's through to deeper 400's ?
cheers
