garmin 820xs gains

any info or tips on the garmin 820 xs gains . auto high seems to read joy at speed but doesnt pick up much (i think ) while sounding slowly. setting the gains to manual 80-90s is better at slow speed but junk at high speed .

 G'day

I've got 1020xs's and believe they are the same inner workings.  I haven't messed with mine much but early on settled on the 'auto high' gain and seems to work well for me but interested to see what other experiences are out there.  We also have no problem at speed and fish mostly around the 110 to 130ft zone.

Cheers

I find on auto high shows next to no claret, through out the screen. Bottom definition is excellent though. I tend to skip between manual 80-90s while sounding. i also run a chirp 600 w tranny. Thanks rod good to know

Had a quick play on Friday, just a look really.  Went to the settings and found the auto high was on 98% which I'm pretty sure is where I set it a couple of years ago.  Moved it a little either way and settled back to that.  I use have the standard 600W supplied trannie.  I get great bottom image at all speeds and pretty happy with the detail.  Easier to use in this regard than my previous touch 9 which needed constant ping speed adjustment to get working well.  If I can work out how to post pics I'll put up a couple of screen shots for you to compare

Got the pics in but not sure if I went about it the correct way

Cheers

Thanks mate I'll do the same , so you reckon you auto high runs on 98? I use the blue back ground nts if that would make any difference
