FCV-1150 with 200B-8B - sounding interpretation
Submitted by chevaps on Mon, 2020-07-13 13:18Hi everyone.
I was going through my phone this morning and came across these photos of a spot i found a few months back and would love to hear some thoughts on interpretation of the sounding. Came from a Furuno FCV-1150 and 200B-8B transducer.
I remember barely getting any enquries, and on one drift we picked up a Cobia and a Spangled Emperor, but then went quiet again.
I don't see this as hard bottom, and thought it was some rocky / coral structure on some softish bottom, with some fish swimming above and on the edge. Or am i wrong and this simply bait schooled up close to the bottom.
Photos 1 to 3 are from one drift, and photo 4 is from a another drift.
Look forward to hearing back.

Lowrance 3in1 transducer alongside furuno p66?
Submitted by surfer on Sat, 2020-07-04 16:26Hey Guys,
After some advice on mounting a lowrance 3in1 transducer alongside my current furuno p66 tranny. How close to the p66 can i mount the 3in1? Also how close to the motor can i mount the 3in1? The p66 is about 40cm from tbe motor and I was thinking of mounting tbe 3in1 between the p66 and motor, meaning it will be around 20/30cm from the motor. Mounting the 3in1 on the motor side of the p66 means it will be slightly lower than the p66, wondering how/if the sidescan will be affected on the lowrance. Any advice would be awesome before i start going crazy with the drill.

sounder tranny advice
Submitted by ratt27 on Sat, 2020-06-13 22:09Hi guys, I am confused about the world of sounder setup.. hoping for some advice on a couple of specific questions. Theres lots of advice/info here however trying to get my head around it all.
Currently I have a 10yo Humminbird w/600w tranny. Its reasonably good, Im picking up fish out to about 120m however the detail and quality at that depth is average.
I mainly fish 50-70m and starting to fish more out to 150odd.. I am wanting better results/clarity/detail and am looking into a F588 w/1kW.
Questions are;
1. The TM260 seems popular but am worried with the super narrow beam that for 50m range its too restricting. Is there a better alternative?
2. The humminbird runs 200/83khz, can i run the Hbird on 83khz at same time as 588 and not affect one another? the bird will now be dedicated plotter..
3. What is the purpose/benefit of the mb1100? I believe you can run a 1kw direct to 588.. but what does the mb1100 do better?
lots of questions and my brain is melting!
Thanks

Converting Garmin waypoints to Lowrance?
Submitted by abrohlosorbust on Sun, 2019-12-22 11:22Ive had a seach and struggled to find anything definitive.
Has anybody got a tried and proven way of downloading exchanging Garmin waypoints to a Lowrance HDS Chart plotter. Ideally would like to be able to drag/ save them en masse and not have to enter manually. The Garmin is the old GPSmap76sx and the Lowrance is HDS 8 Gen 2.
More than happy to recieve a private message if preffered. I know it must have been done previously i cant find anything online though.

Submitted by stigman01 on Mon, 2019-12-09 19:21Hi guys
I'm putting my boat in a pen and RAC boat insurance tell me I need a gps or an alarm for me to be insured.
Anyone else had to get one and have a recommendation please
Advise on a new combo
Submitted by jogal on Thu, 2019-11-28 15:51Hi all I would like to update my gps and plotter! Currently I have a Garmin gpsmap 232 and a Koden echo sounder running off a 1kw Airmar transducer. I dont really fish out wide and deep more crayfishing and trolling. I was thinking of one device rather than two like I have now. Also would like to transfer my waypoints from my data card.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
garmin echomap 45cv
Submitted by CRESTCUTTER251 on Mon, 2019-10-28 15:21Hi guys,
i dont use fishwrecked much but if someone could help me it would be much appreciated,
i recently brought the garmin echomap 45cv sounder from bcf for $449,
yesterday i hooked it up and thought i would enter some coordinates,
i entered the d9 wreck gps coordinates at S 32°01.145, E 115°32.872,
the waypoint was showing right next to rottnest island which i know is not where the d9 wreck is,
i then googled rottnest gps coordinates and they seems to be way off aswell,
do you think i have brought a faulty sounder and should take it back? or is this something with the settings?
i also do not have the transudcer cable plugged in yet as i been told its not good to have it plugged in while the boat is not in water.
please if any advice before i take it back (if needed)

Sounders
Submitted by Sea goat on Tue, 2019-10-08 16:27Hey guys. Sorry if this is a dumb question, but have never really had to select my own electric setup before. I have noticed in a few posts with builds that people will usually have a sounder and fish finder. Eg something like a raymarine axiom pro and a furuno fish finder. Just wondering what the benefit of this is? Or if a seperate chart plotter is needed. I have been used to just having the one sounder which I use for both.
again, sorry if this is a dumb question, just want to choose right!
cheers!

Has anyone got the Garmin Striker plus 9sv (question)
Submitted by TAPOUT on Thu, 2019-08-29 15:10Hi all. Just have a question someone may be able to answer. I’m looking at the Garmin striker 9sv but I’m getting mixed reports on the Side Veiw depth capabilities. I’m fishing normally around the 45mtr mark. Reviews I’ve read say it will work up to 150mtrs but the shop staff tell me it will be on its limit at 45mtrs. Is this correct? Who do I believe?
I was hoping someone on here might have one and can give me some first hand info please.
Thanks in advance.

Lowrance date issue-pissed right off
Submitted by Rob H on Mon, 2019-04-08 12:57 So the GPS date rollover has rendered most if not all Gen2 touch and non touch units useless until Lowrance software engineers push the Krispy Kreme box aside and get around to pushing a couple of buttons.
Only as recently as a couple of months ago we had another date issue with these, and it took them 4 months of scratching their ball bags before they got around to sorting it.
You would have thought they would have dealt with this issue at the same time.
Unfortunately they couldnt be bothered, maybe they saw a surge in sales last time and thought this would be a great idea for marketing?
Not this black duck, Id look long and hard at purchasing another Lowrance product, ever.
Off to the Abrolhos day after tomorrow, wont stop us going, just make it a bit less convenient.

Sounder settings and bottom discrimination
Submitted by Scout85 on Thu, 2019-02-07 21:01Hi, I know how to use my sounder to find/see fish but what I really want to know is how do you tell the difference in different bottom. I know harder bottom will be thicker red and all that but how do you know what bottom is good for coral or what does mud look like? I’m more interested in setting cray pots in a bit deeper water about 20 - 30 fathoms. Also what settings do you use for each bottom? Sorry for all the questions, if you have photos that would be awesome.
thanks

Sounder help.
Submitted by Scout85 on Tue, 2019-02-05 07:51Hi everyone, I’m needing some help I’m newish to sounders, I have a fair idea of how to use one but I’d like some help so I can stop second guessing myself. Would anyone have any photos of what coral bottom looks like on a colour sounder? I’m wanting to set a couple of cray pots on coral bottom in about 20 to 30 fathoms, I know I should be looking for little flair ups I just don’t know what i should be looking for on the bottom, what does coral look like and how do I see little holes in the coral. Thanks

Lowrance elite 9 Ti2 v Garmin Echomap plus 95sv
Submitted by Tommo16 on Wed, 2019-01-09 09:26Morning Gents
Looking at a new sounder/GPS unit and considering the Lowrance Elite 9 Ti2 and Garmin Echomap plus 95sv. Any advice from experience much appreciated. I fish up to 60m and do a lot of work inshore 7-20m so keen to get onto side scan.
Research tells me the GT 52 tranny which comes packaged with the Garmin unit is not that great and upgrading to the GT 51 is worthwhile.
I fish from an open tinny so also need something that is easy to read and doesn't mind a bit of unavoidable salt splash.
Cheers
Tom

FCV-582l
Submitted by Jadeo on Sun, 2018-10-07 16:44Just chasing some opinions. Have found an FCV-582l for a pretty good price. I know it is an older sounder, but what are you thoughts on them? Will it be better than the Lowrance Elite 7 TI that already have? I am also keen on a new Simrad 9". Should I not be such a tight arse and get the simrad as it has all the new good shit on it. Thanks in advance.

Sounder advice for deep dropping.
Submitted by werzal on Fri, 2018-09-28 10:18Hi guys. Currently my boat is fitted with a Lowrance HDS7 Gen1. I was thinking about getting something similar to plug in and use the two as stand alone GPS and sounder units rather than running split screen. However living in the Pilbara I fish Exmouth a couple of times a year and would like to start fishing in deep water chasing Goldband and Rubys. Any advice on what to run that would be suitable up to 300m. Would I still be able to use the HDS7 together to run maps?

Transducer bubble diverter
Submitted by crano on Mon, 2018-09-24 14:39I have had three transducers on the boat in the normal position without much success. I have put a TM260 way out to the side to get it to work.
I had some success with a totalscan sikaflexed straight to the bottom of the hull. I have always believed it is the hull creating bubbles so I decided to try and make something to divert the bubbles away from the transducer so I just sikaflexed a piece of thin ally plate in front of the transducer to try and send bubbles away from the transducer it actually worked. Doing 24 MPH in 35m it was working great.
This could be something for Gruntre to investigate for his problems.
Keep in mind I am not an expert on water flow [just a dumb sparky] so I may have just got lucky.
