Denmark fishing
Submitted by Sam_the_fisherman on Sun, 2020-05-10 11:08Hi guys, Im new to the forum and im heading down to denmark as soon as the regions open back up. Last time i was there i caught a few pinkies, flatties, KG's in the inlet. This time im keen to chase some bigger fish off the beaches like gummys, pinkies, mullys or maybe if the weathers alright a few blues off the rocks as well. I heard that anvil beach pretty good for the larger species. If anyone has any info on spots to try or baits and rigs to use would be greatly appriciated
Thanks Samuel
Land based Exmouth options
Submitted by fingaz on Thu, 2020-02-20 12:00I am flying up to Exmouth for a quick 3 day trip at end of Feb and am looking for ideas of where to wet a line.
I have not land based fished there for 10 years, but keen to target anything from Whiting, Jacks, Queenies, Bluebone and any Trevally on the chew. We are staying on the canals so we will chase some Jacks etc in there and fish the Marina Wall, but would like to flick some stick baits and plastics (away from the crowds) for whatever within 20km to 30 km from town. I have been told that Oyster's and Lighthouse Bay on a rising tide is a good option.
Any suggestions on where we should head and what gear we should take up?

Ballooning reel
Submitted by kknlk on Fri, 2019-12-20 08:14Going to get one and looks like a TLD 20 or 25 or a Penn. These are the most popular and dare I say have stood the test of time. Some of the Penn models are very long lasting and so's the TLD. I think personally it's going to be one of the TLDs. It seems like the 25 is the more popular and can take more line. Shimano states over 1000 m of 50lb braid but the 20 can take over 800m of the same 50lb braid. In this sense it makes no difference to me. If anything it'll push me to the 20 as it's smaller. Weight is not a consideration as there's only 20gm diff between the two. Are any of you using a TLD 20 and if so how much line have you actually been able to get onto the reel? Other thoughts?

Ultimate fishing holiday to be
Submitted by Paddyfish on Thu, 2019-07-25 18:53G’day fishing people!
i am leaving my farm on Sunday to start a 3 month trip from central vic through the middle of aus, along the Gibb River Road and down the west coast.
i plan on land based fishing every creek, ocean, bay and puddle I can and hiring a tinny for a week in Exmouth.
Ive got lots of hard body lures and every plastic you could poke a stick at.
the problem I’m having is that I’ve never really fished out of vic and don’t exactly know where
to go or what to fish for from shore lines.
Ive got a 10wt fly outfit I’m keen on using, I can cast well but have never hooked a fish, also small and large spin rods, just about all the gear and some idea(?)
ideally I’d like to catch as many species of fish as possible over the biggest fish possible.
so if you had a month to drive down the west coast of WA, where would you stop and how/what
would you fish for?
if I come across anyone that has a boat and a seat or 2 for missus, I can be a good decky (cooking, cleaning, fuel, beers etc)
hope to to see some of you out there and can’t wait to experience the proper Australia!!

Shattered, I lost a good trout today - video captired
Submitted by Fishing-Mad on Mon, 2019-06-03 12:57
Video footage can be seen here - https://youtu.be/zeUwWHuPzkc
I bet everyone has a cool story they can share about a good fish that they have recently lost. I just missed out on catching a very large trout today which I managed to capture on my GoPro. I cast my metal lure out and a few seconds later the trout hit it really hard. I battled it for a few minutes, with some intense moments as the trout continually leapt out of the water and then it finally spat the hook only meters away from me.
I landed one about the same size last year which managed to get me on the cover of a fishing mag, Clearly, I was shattered. That feeling when you lose a big fish, and how you relive those last moments over and over in your head, and what you could have done differently.
Again, I bet many here have great stories they can share.

Exmouth advice please
Submitted by alemarkic10 on Mon, 2018-11-05 11:52 Hey guys,
The boys and I are heading up to exmouth in a couple weeks for the second time and I was just wondering if anyone could give us some advice on where to fish etc, our first trip didnt go as well as we would've hoped aha didnt really get onto much. We might be hiring a boat, but we're mainly looking for LB advice; interested in catching queenies, GT etc on lures if at all possible (we'd probably be down for anything after last trip if im honest :') ). We're also interested in catching some mud crabs if possible.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Cheers,

Chasing Tailor midweek - Leeman?
Submitted by buschy on Sat, 2018-08-18 23:51Hey guys - has been a long time since I've posted but was hoping someone may pop up with a good idea on where to head. I'm thinking it's probably still a good time to try and hit up some big tailor on plugs.
I've been fishing up around Leeman for quite a few years. Was thinking of heading up there (or anywhere I can get peace and quiet) on Wednesday arvo for a night / morning.
My thoughts - pressure rising, light easterlies, favourable high tide, bit of swell. I've never fished this moon phase but waxing & I prefer a few days either side of a full moon if I'm going to fish it. We're also sat right on the seasonal change so the beaches may be doing a bit and I always think it can throw up surprises. From memory I think the water temps are right about now for them to be breeding? I actually think it could turn out to be really productive if I can find clear water.
I'm a bit worried about the southerly on Wednesday stirring things up too much around Leeman, so would love any tips or ideas for a general area to hit up within a few hundred Ks (give or take) of Perth. Even better if around that stretch of coast as I do love that general area i.e. South Dongara.
Would be grateful for any pointers and also love to hear other people's thoughts on the conditions (my reading of them has resulted in numerous empty fishing buckets over the years). I'll also mix it up and sit on the beach to soak some baits on Wed evening.
Cheers
Buschy

Combo for land based mackerel and tunas
Submitted by Irie on Thu, 2018-07-26 09:10Hey guys,
After one year spent in New Zealand targetting kingies of the rocks and spearfishing I am heading to western australia with the same program : buy a 4 wheel drive and travel west for fishing and spearfishing.
I would like to get some advices on the set up that I will need for spinning of the rocks.
Here in New Zealand for kingies I was using a shimano backbone elite topwater rod 50/80 lbs with a 10 000 saragosa with 80lb braid for stickbaiting and also livebaiting kahawai (salmon) under balloons. Will this set up be good to target spaniards of the rocks ?
What combo would you recommend ?
I also would like to try GT's of the rocks, can this combo do the job as well ?
I will start from Perth and then head north towards Exmouth, kalbarri, quobba etc.
Here in New Zealand I was also using my kayak to get to unaccessible ledges or small island, is it possible to do this as well in WA ? Is it worth it to buy a kayak ?
Thanks guys :)

What lb line for ballooning for mackrel
Submitted by tainted on Sat, 2018-05-12 16:24Hey Team,
Just looking to condense a bit of gear I've collected over the years that isn't being used so much. The thing is I still want the options, so I trying to have combos covering multiple tasks.
At the moment I've got a trinidad 30 with 30lb braid backing and a mono topshit on a poseidon 5 piece. It's probably around 650m (500m of braid). This is used as one of my primary beach reels and will stay in the collection.
I also have a Tyrnos 30 with 80lb braid and mono topshot on a live fibre 24kg LBG rod. It hasn't recieved as much use as I hoped for so it is on the short list. I know it was overkill for mackrel but was also used to target larger fish.
So, in your opinions will 30lb be sufficient for mackrel on a balloon? I'd probably prefer 50lb but am not sure how much the trinidad will hold and then there is just the issue of buy more line etc while trying to free up some cash.

Fishing Steep, Snaggy Drop-offs For Big Flathead
Submitted by chumstain on Thu, 2018-05-03 17:43I occasionally go for a snorkel along the cliffs of rocky bay to gidgee mullet for bait (and sometimes lunch). And I have been spotting some nice flathead amongst other things (check my fishing reports forum post). The problem is that Iam wondering how to target them... they sit on sandy patches on the steep dropoff you can see in the satellite photo. They are completely surrounded by ferocious blowies during the day and lots of weed and rock structure, along with rubbish such as shopping trollies and tires. The first thing that comes to my mind is of course SPs but i think i will have a problem with the blowies shredding them... and of course the endless snags. Any ideas?
I have fished there on sunset and it has plenty of 25cm bream and some herring. I am also thinking of trying for tailor...
Thanks and tight lines!

Dirk Hartog trip 'the block' 22-3-18/ 29-3-18 'Don't fish the cliffs in a northerly swell'
Submitted by Fish or Die on Mon, 2018-04-09 20:37Me and a few mates headed up for our much anticipated trip to the island it did not disappoint. we arrived at steep point Thursday arvo to sleep overnight ready for barge pickup Friday morning we picked up a few bonus squid for bait off the in close weed banks.
Friday morning barge picked us up round 8 then drove the relatively easy 80k/3hr drive to 'the block' which is a campsite complete with long drops and shed to store your gear about 200m walk to prime fishing cliffs. We got to site around lunchtime unpacked and tried to fish the cliffs but due to a cyclone passing well offshore at the time the swell was a bit gnarly we had a few decent hookups but were busted off we decided it was too rough to fish so hit the piss and called it a night
Saturday morning the swell was not much better and the weather report said it would be getting worse so we decided to head to the east side Louisa Bay Area of the island for the day and overnight to get a bit of fishing in the water was very murky from the weather went for a snorkel in 1m vis and spooked a 2m bronzie as we couldn't see each other we caught a few black snapper, big bream, flathead and small sharks and a 2m bronzie then called it a night
Sunday morning the water had cleared up a bit so took the kayaks out and had a ripper session on 3-5inch placcies catching blue bone, coral trout, just undersized pinkies, Spanish flag, black snapper and cods finally a decent feed of fish. We headed back to the block after some sight seeing to find that the Angel ring at the block had been totally flattened by a huge wave (the ring is situated on top of an 8m cliff face) and a new waterline from the wave 50m from the shed (we had swags in this area on the Friday night when we arrived) would have been cool/shit your pants to have seen it happen but glad we didn't. The swell had dropped so we fished till sunset keeping a keen eye on the ocean and didn't get much interest on baits and lures
Monday morning was no good for ballooning so spun metals placcies and baits for a few follows and hookups on tuna and dropped a Mackie. Went for a Freedive between turtle bay and cape inscription the swell had really churned it up with some nice fish hanging round the plumes of smashed crabs in the water fish of the day would have to be a 70cm pinkie on a surface stick bait and some nice baldies to 7kg on the straight hook
tuesday was the day for ballooning with3 balloons out we had a take on a shore catch garfish about 500m out
After a long battle we were confronted with our first ever cliff gaff challenge a 2.4 m sailfish a few tense moments and we had it on the cliff high fives all round. Not much else on balloons and pinning/ Demersal fishing was slow Wednesday was a good day for ballooning with a missed hookup on a sailfish and a 10 kilo Spanish mack spinning was a bit more interesting with tuna and long Tom and a spangled emperor on bait. Went for another Freedive near cape inscription for another baldie and parrot fish on sunset it's a beautiful part of the world here in and out of the water. Punctured 2 tyres on way back to camp Thursday was our last day ballooned til 12 for 1 shark on a tailor bait and 2 bust offs out wide due to terminal tackle failure/ low on line too much drag. Packed up our gear and made our way back to the barge for the trip home nxt morning Was an epic trip can't wait to get back there
