Another all nighter at hillarys
Submitted by schecky on Fri, 2009-01-02 12:37with it being the holidays liam and I decided we would go for another all nighter at hilarys to try our luck.
started off flicking a few mulies etc at around 8 with nothing to show for it
bit later we soaked the big baits and had a couple nice hits and runs but no hook ups.
once again just before 3 o clock the trusty snook came on the bite
those buggers love the metals and we got a good 4 hours fun out of those snook
we did a bit of squidding but the jogs wernt tasty to those squid but we lured them out from under
we could literally see them cruising near the rocks and on the other side of the rocks some blokes were gettin a couple
so we were pretty bummed about not getting afew...
then whilst chucking the chromies i casted and turned around to talk to liam, allowing the metal to sink....picked up the slack and noticed a lot of extra weight
reeled it in to the rocks and bam there was a small squid
was pretty funny to be desperately trying with jigs then get one without trying on a piece of metal
wasnt the best night but was glad to get out on the water and was a bonus to land a few.
weather was fantastic all night!
bit late but happy new years everyone haha
cheers,
Reuben

Busselton Region
Submitted by Sekans on Fri, 2009-01-02 09:19I'm heading down to the Busselton region in about a week. I'll be staying at a resort near the beach and will be looking for some places to go fishing. Other than the jetty, what places would be good to fish and what types of fish should I be targeting for this time of year? I thought maybe Canal Rocks, Bunker Bay as I have seen these names pop up a few times on the internet. I assume the beach directly out from the resort i'm staying at will not hold any decent fish. I am restricted to land based areas only.
Any tips on bait, rigs, lures and whats biting at the moment would be much appreciated.
Cheers

Anyone up for a surfcast or shark mission around Perth Metro??
Submitted by Bungel on Wed, 2008-12-31 08:57I have finally got myself some wheels (barely reliable, but thats my problem), so im keen to get out and find something to pull a bit of string.
Been a good 3-4 months since the last time i had a decent fish.. blowies in the canning river are getting tiresome.
If anyone if heading out and doesnt mind some company around the Perth Metro area, i would be more than keen to meet up for an evening mission... got the 6/0's 15-24kg for sharks and a 10footer with 6kg for anything else like tailor. If other gear is needed, let me know a few days before hand and i will pick it up.
Im new to the aussie way of fishing, gang hooks and all.... but have many years experience of fishing NZ for similar species.
Need to get out there and see how you chaps do it. :P

Kalbarri Land Based
Submitted by abandon on Tue, 2008-12-30 09:58Hey everybody, hope you all had a good Christmas.
I'm off to Kalbarri for a few days and was wondering if anybody had any advice on where to fish and what to target. I've read that Red Bluff is the go for tailor, but I'm assuming it will be elbow to elbow this time of year?
How's the river for fishing?

Surf/Rock Rod
Submitted by Happy Hooker on Mon, 2008-12-15 13:34Just looking for some advice on new gear selection. Am chasing a new rod for surf/rocks , mainly Wagoe type fishing however also for use up at Quobba. Using a Penn 950 (usa model , but new) but this might be changed down the track to a saltiga once I get rid of the Penns (have 3 of them).
Currently using old Snyder (about 15ft but cant remember as had it rebuilt by Rodwise so cant remember how many wraps or size etc as it was covered over) but thinking of moving to graphite or composite for comfort (weight) and something a bit stiffer to get me up an out of the jags quicker).
Looking at Moonraker, Wilson Live Fibre or perhaps Daiwa Senor, around the 14ft mark.
Any suggestions on the above or any others. Price wise am happy to fork out up to $400.
Cheers

Can you LandBase Rottnest???
Submitted by Bungel on Sun, 2008-11-30 12:06Thinking thats my closest place to head to at the moment to get a decent fishing fix.
I have heard contrasting information... some saying its a great place to fish (Maybe just for boats) and others saying there are areas that are off limits.
I know you can do diving out there and snorkling.. i just want to throw a few poppers and go for a snorkel with my girl. Spend a nice day out there.
Any help would be much appreciated... I will go search through the forum threads and see if i can find any other info.
Cheers,
George.

Whitehills this weekend?
Submitted by scano on Thu, 2008-11-20 11:00will be heading to Whitehills this weekend to wet a line from the beach. Anyone got any rescent reports of what the fishing has been like down there lately?
I presume the usual whiting, herring and hopefully tailor are on the bite? And if so what species are in good numbers?
Mainly chasing Tailor or something bigger (sharks, mulla's)
any up to date reports on recommendations on specific spots would be very much appreciated.

Submitted by Italiano on Thu, 2008-11-06 19:46Does anyone own or have used a casting overhead? Do they cast further than egg beaters? are they easy to cast at night? as am looking at getting one to fish the beaches and have never used one or seen one get used. If anyone has any pros and cons it would be much appreciated as i don't want to buy one then find out that they are rubbish.

Newbie - Getting back into it
Submitted by Rumblefish on Tue, 2008-10-21 22:31Hey all,
Well it's been a loooong time since a soaked a line and with my Pop visiting from Tassie next week (who taught me most of what I know) it's time to dig the gear out and get back into it.
For those who might care, I used to work at Chivers and frequent FWA, and now work just round the corner from Ryan in a Riggers/Chandlery.
Always been into boating of all sorts but a bit more of a yachtie (que wind jockey jokes!) and with the business I now work for sailing has taken up most of my aquatic based activities. Had read through FW a while ago and when I spoke to Honsu today he mentioned it which jigged my memory!
So after reading through the forums I'm planning to hit Hillarys. I have 6 days off from Thursday this week so going to head up Thurs/Fri to scope the place out and then hoping there might be some good Taylor or Pinkies on Tuesday after the blow when I take my Pop out.
Any hints, suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!!
Oh and work wise I might have a bit to offer too!! Don't want to tread on any toes so stuff that we specialize in that others around here might not do are S/S wire ballustrading, S/S tube, Epoxy and Polyester Resins, Plywood, Fibreglass Matting, Solar panels and were pretty good on advice when it comes to Fibreglass and Timber repair and building!!!
Not trying to hard sell or anything, just like to help out where I can!!!
Very willing to help out anyone who asks!!!!
Cheers,
Rumblefish (AKA Ben)

Exmouth ???
Submitted by wozapinin on Sun, 2008-09-21 14:04g'day fellow fisho's, i'm taking the family up to Exmouth for a couple of weeks. we get up there each year at this time cause summer just cant get here quick enough. anyways apart from the airport jetty i haven't had the greatest of luck off the beach there. i apply the same gear and rigs as metro tailor fishing-3/0 4/0 gang hooks with a star sinker running above a swivel using mulies or even lures. i no its not all about catching the fish as reeling them in takes valuable drinking time but a feed for the family would be nice. though i don't mind a prawn supplement. so any advice and maybe a hot spot would be appreciated (you can pm me ). cheers
