Flatrock/loonies
Submitted by sherbert on Sun, 2007-11-11 18:03We left home around 3.30 after stopping for a bite to eat, We went straight up to loonies and set up camp in strong winds...
Blowing Around 10.00pm the winds died off and we fished for mulloway till 12.00pm Lots of seaweed and no takers,We hit the sack and woke at 4.00am pack up all the gear and went to flatrock.
When we got there thier was a guy pulling in a nice pan size mulloway and lots of tailor were being caught all along the reef.
I droped a few and then i started hooking up into some nice tailor around the 40cm and tailor were still biting way after 9.30am when we were leaving...
cheers steve
I will put some photos up of a view of the reef So you guys heading there next week can see what its like and some tailor shots too.....

Q regarding trout lures
Submitted by jimbo1 on Tue, 2007-11-06 10:17G'day I am going to waroona next week for a couple of days camping and was going to try my luck trout fishing.
I have my license and dug out a heap of spinners from when I last went a few years back. My Q is what is the best way to clean up my old lures as the brass on the old spinners has lost its shine and the trebles have small deposits of surface rusting. Without spending a fortune and having to go buy another dozen lures does anyone have a easy solution to cleaning them up. Or is it really not worth bothering, will it make that much of a difference to my potntial catch. Not very experienced at trout fishing!
Cheers

Fishwrecked landbased day - CANCELLED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
Submitted by SPESS on Mon, 2007-10-29 17:43Ok, heres a few things to keep in mind........
Destination: Flatrock, just north of two rocks (perth) we will all meet at a destination and go together which will be posted up soon.
Date: Saturday, 10th November.
Gear required: (must have!) Fishing gear, rod holder, own bait/berley etc, reef shoes, own lunch and drinks.
4X4 owners: Tyre deflaters, snatch strap and compressor (if you havent got these you can borrow others but it makes it easier!) Experience on the beach! Dont like towing people out all day.lol.
We will need to leave early! All people who are going with other drivers with 4x4's must organize to get to there house and load up before getting to the meeting place. The meeting place i have in mind is about 40mins from destination so we will need you there by 5am!. This is because between once we get there let the tyres down and get to flatrock we need to be fishing by 6:30am at the latest to have a chance on the goodies :)
We will fish until your hearts desired and if people want to leave early they can. We can have some lunch and head off or stay until dark its up too everyone else but most people will proberly want to leave after lunch.
Please add or remove your name from my list if you cant get there by the above time or have any other problems. Cheers Chris.
(list to be added soon!)

Expressions of interest!!!!
Submitted by SPESS on Fri, 2007-10-26 11:27Having talked to quite a few members of fishwrecked latley the topic of a landbased get together has come up. Some dont like to get out on boats and others like both so i thought if anyones interested we could plan a day (or weekend) were we could head to a destination together for a fish.
I was thinking jurien bay or white hills (mandurah) and give the beach a bash or open to any other opions as i know some people are SOR so any sugestions are appreciated. There are a few of us that have 4x4 if they are needed or we could go somewhere where there not.
If your keen add your name to the list and we'll pick a date to suit. At this stage i was thinking of the weekend in november (17th). Could bring it forward if we get some high interest. Cheers chris.

Report, landbased anglers.
Submitted by SPESS on Wed, 2007-10-10 15:10Have just got off the phone to a mate that works basically on the water at north mole, he said for the last 2 days in a row on his way home from work he has seen a couple of decent schools right off the rocks near the cafe. Atleast 20m wide. They are reported to be bonito in the average size range. However this cant be confirmed because only one fish has been pulled from the schools, but this does say that they are all bonnies. Starting to get in a little earlier this year. Good for some guys chasing some light line fun. Just a heads up for people down that way as they may be still hanging around. Cheers Chris.

Tailor about!
Submitted by SPESS on Wed, 2007-09-19 12:00Just talking to some mates that have been doing alright on tailor early mornings up the northan beaches. From pinneroo point up to brighton beach. Looks like some choppers are coming in early this year. Baitcasting mulies into likley spots have done the damage for them in the 40cm range. About time they have turned up. Heads up for the landbased guys around. Even some reports of mullas from the beaches as well! Up to the 8kg mark......only rumours at this stage but worth a crack. Cheers Chris.

White Hills/ Preston
Submitted by deefa on Sat, 2007-09-08 18:33Thinking about hittin the White Hills south stretch of beach up tomorrow to give the new fourbie a bit of a thrashin', just to see how she goes. As i haven't been down that stretch for ages, was wondering if anyone here has, and can give me an idea of what the beach is like? Don't wanna put the new toy in at the deep end till i know what she's capable of. So, has anyone been down there on the beach in the last week or so that can give me a bit of a heads up??

Getting ready for Summer!
Submitted by jangles on Tue, 2007-08-28 16:25Hopefully the following guidelines will give you a basic understanding of what to look for when selecting a location to fish on the beach.
WHAT IS A FEATURE?
Before start detailing how to locate a feature, it's important to understand what a feature is and how it's created. A feature on a beach can be concentrated area that has differing characteristics to the remainder of the beach or simply an area that stands out. Deeper water in comparisons to the rest of the beach and irregular wave action are the two most prodominant characteristics that indicate a feature. Common types of features such as gutters, holes and channels are created when underwater currents combine with wave and wind action to gouge trenches and gullies in the sand beneath the water's surface. These currents or rips remove large amounts of sand in a concentrated area over a period of time. The circumlative effect of all these natural occurences help create some type of feature.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR
Waves & Surf: When watching the surf look for irregular wave patterns, lack of breaking waves, and waves that appear to begin to break then reform into a rolling swell. All these factors indicate deeper water and therefore a feature with potential to hold a fish or two. It's stating the obvious to say a lot of wave action means plenty of white water. Therefore, lack of breaking waves would subsquently mean less white water than the remainder of the beach. This is an important rule for locating some deep water. Also pay close attention to the direction the waves hit the beach, the way they recede back into the ocean and the movement of the surface foam or white water. This will indicate some type of rip, current or channel. This may be relatively insignificant to the inexperienced fisho, but a seasoned beach goer will know this area is a worthy spot to target.
Sand: If you arrive at a beach in low light conditions and can't make out the lay of the land, it can be extremely difficult to pinpoint any worthy features. Checking out the sand formation between the high and low water points can be a tell-tale sign of a channel or small gutter running perpindicular to the beach. To help find these areas look for ridges and undulations in the sand. In particular, concentrate on the high water mark as any significant peaks or throughs on the beach will normally spell deeper water adjacent to these areas. The gradient or angle of the sand running into the water can also give some indication of the water depth.
Water: Possibly the simplest characteristics to describe in theory is how to locate deep water. Colour nad contrast in the water will enable you to identify the deeper areas. A dark blue patch of water along the beach will stand out. Of course, not all gutters and holes are subsequently deeper then the surrounding water so with shallower features the water may only be a shade darker in contrast to the rest of the beach. A general ruke of thumb is that the deeper the feature the bigger the contrast or darker the colour of the water.
When: The final consideration is exactly when should you go about checking out and beach formations. If you take a stroll along your selected stretch of beach or position yourself on a high vantage point at low tide, any features will stand out. At low tide andy gutters or channels will be easier to distinguish than at high tide. At full water features may be hidden by breaking waves and white water.
SUMMARY
The next time your on a beach, have identified sometype of feature using the strategies outlined above and nailed a few fish, take a mental picture or better take a picture with the digital camera and remember the formations of the waves. Once you've mastered the ability to identify formations off the beach you'll be in a good standing when ever you cast a line on off the sand.

Submitted by Karlos on Sun, 2007-08-19 23:49Hey fellas headed out with LOCO ( BREAM KING- hahaha) for a fish on saturday at the narrows. didnt get into much but managed to pull in a huge bream.( Huge by my expectations..33 cm and another slightly smaller...its all about the tming for breamski in my humble opinion. no bites as soon as we got there around midnight but when it hit 230am they were on the bite... so were the blowies which was surpring cause i alwasy thought they rarely come out at night.. anyway its a good spot if u like staying for the long haul...would have stayed longer if not for the blowies ...oh yeah and there was this other dude there who was fishing as well.. he said a little earlier he had a big run on his bigger rig ( mulloway or ray or something BIG).. we had our bigger rigs out as well with the whoel range of baits..( scallies, mullet, squid, ) but no action..but still was a hell of a night..the photos on me phone will find a way to load it up..alright nice one guys
