Great Weekend fishing/Loonies area

Had a great overnight fish. John and i headed up to 3 mile reef as we had our club field day this weekend,
3 mile was totally weeded out so we thought we would head back towards Flatrocks/Loonies area. We managed to find a nice area fairly weed free and bang first cast i caught a Mulloway around 60cm. Then another around the same size and later one at 78cm. Poor John nothing he lost about 5 rigs to rocks and weed. I fished with the same rig all night. John is not happy but i am LOL.

saturday

going out tomorrow morning, conditions look average but hoping to get a feed.

taking the big rod, maybe chuck some poppers and slices as well as the mulies for some tailor.

no doubt my mate will bring the small rod and clean up.

thinking pinnaroo to keep it nice and close but might duck up to quinns instead. anyone heard of anything producing there?

cheers

FINAL THREAD!!! fw flatrocks landbased weekend. 22nd to 24th.

READ VERY CAREFULLY AND PLEASE MAKE THIS EASY FOR EVERYONE...........

This is a final updated list for the weekend we go away to flatrocks.

By now you should have got your lift organised and have a plan of attack. myself and some others will be going up on the friday and you are more than welcome to join us. Others that leave on the sat can go as one ( meet at wanneroo maccas etc) or go individually thats up to you. please make sure that you have enough gear with you for the weekend. Gas cookers, lights etc are up to you to organise and are advisable.

Basically be self sufffient or "PM" someone else to share if you dont have something, dont post it up. This will make it clear what everyone is doing so please only update the list as mensioned.

Official list in thread below.

Flat Rocks Landbased.

Spent the day and night fishing FlatRocks area On the weekend..Bloody Freezing and bugger all fish.
Only landed 4 Tailor in the evening and small whiting during the day. Fished Muffler Beach and Loonies
also just a few herring. No Tailor in the AM. Track in and and out is Good. Beach soft. Still a few areas weeded but Flat Rocks waters were ideal just short on fish.
Heres hoping the Fishwrecked Landbased weekend is a bit warmer and more productive.

Pink Snapper

I heard that if you fish with a whole squid on a paternoster rig, fishing after a storm, at the City beach groyne you can catch Pink snapper. Is this true?????

Fishwrecked Landbased Flatrocks

Is the Landbased weekend at Flatrocks still on this weekend?

Tailor not biting for me

I'v been trying for ages to catch a Tailor and I still haven't caught one yetYell. Please tell me what bait or lure to use, to fish at high or low tide, morning or night, light or dark, I have already tried using 5-30g metal slices, mulies on ganged hooks and poppers. I have tried on the beach and in rivers but mostly on the beach. PLEASE HELP ME CATCH A FLIPPIN TAILOR BEFORE I STOP TRYING.

Tailor

Can someone tell me some great Tailor spots from Trigg to Cotteslo, and if I should use bait or lures.Laughing

Beach Fishing

What would be a good rod and reel for beach fishing to get that extra distance? How tall should the rod be?

Booties

My reef boots have finally given up on me and ‘parted’ company.

I'd like to get a sturdy comfortable pair of rock hoppers. Can anyone recommend some quality ones to look at.

I have seen some in a couple of camping/fishing stores but they seem quite flimsy for the asking price.

Dunsborough

I'm staying at Bunker Bay and a little at Busselton and I will be fishing there non stop from thursday to saturday and some advice on what I can catch and how to catch it. Laughing

NEW TO PERTH

hi guys just recently immi from south africa, looking to meet other fisho's and learn the spots around the metro area's.been doing competive fishing for a few years and would be intrested in joining a club here, any suggestions? Do all types of fishing, from soft plastics to getting towed by large sharks and rays.

LED Cap

Saw these in the latest Club Marine mag, they are powered by a std 9v battery with the LEDS mounted into the brim. 'A slim push switch under the brim allows for 2,4 or 8 LEDS to be switched on or off. The battery is held in a pocket at the back of the cap. Pretty neat arrangement I thought.

Bunker Bay Dunsborough

I'm staying at Bunker Bay and I'm not sure what I can catch on the loacal beaches. Smile

Landbased at flatrocks.....yes its on again!

Alright guys i no the last time didnt work out due to myself pulling out at the last minute due to work commitments but im sure to see this one through! Ok the plan of attack will be to discuss a weekend when we can get up there. Im thinking a friday avo leave and arrive at around 5ish, stay the night and fish the next day until your content. this is the flatrocks located approx 1 hour north of wanneroo.

Im thinking friday the 1st or 8th of august will be a goer for this and everyone is welcome as long as they are self suficiant etc. A 4x4 is needed to get to the spot and sleeping, cooking camping gear is recomended. the track in is also alittle tricky but not for those with some 4x4 experiance. We can all camp around the area easily but still a tent or swag is recommended. Those who havent got a 4x4 can get a lift with others how have room.

Fishing the area for those who havent been there is generally done off the reef or "flatrock" so beach rods are the go. Ill list a few things which are recommended to bring along for "personal" saftey every thing else is up to you and dont stress if you havent got something im sure some of us will have it.

1. Rock hoppers or good reef boots

2. Food and plenty of drinks

3. Toilet paper, shovel.lol.

Recovery gear for the 4x4,s isnt assential but recommended but as said some of us can help out if needed. There are rangers around and cutting up or general runnong amuck wont be welcome on the beach so leave your skills at home please. If theres any questions please dont hesitate to ask and we'll help out.

Most importantly put ya name on the list for a bit of good fun and write next to your name if you have a 4x4 or need a lift and where you are located. We will meet at a discussed place and go from there together in convoy. Cheers spess.

LIST:

SPESS 4x4 (1 spare spot) N.O.R.

Tailor and Salmon not biting for me

I'm having no luck trying to catch tailor and salmon on my local beachs and i've been using everything from metal slices to herring fillets.

FrownHELP ME!!!!Surprised

Back from Gnaraloo

Just got back from Gnaraloo and Quobba where favourable easterlies in the morning and near glass off's in the afternoon would have seen some great fishing for the keen landbasers. Driving down on Sunday and back today saw balloon's just hovering off the coast with football fields of tuna busting up the surface out from the wall, whistlers, fencelines. Didn't see a hell of a lot of action at Garths but 2 guys were setting up and things looked fishy. Boaties did well best red being 10kg gutted as a double with another 4kg red being highlight. Plenty of fish about thats for sure!

Cheers,

Adam

Busso reports?????

Hi guys im heading down to busselton for the weekend and plan on doing alittle landbased fishing while there. just wondering if anyone on the site has heard of some spots that are fireing at the moment as ill wont have the time to have a good look around. Any info will be sweet and greatly appreciated. Will be fishing soft plastic and metals only cheers chris. PM if you wish.

Midday fishing!

Hey knackers,

Went for fish yesterday, purposly chasing Buff Bream. Went to the good old Cockburn ASI rock groyne and just burleyed hard. I was only using me Bream gear with only 4lb braid. Could tell ya, once I burleyed the Buffies came out in force. Just had 10lb leader tied off to my mainline and with a small long shank hook with burley dough wrapped around it.

Nothing was stopped at all. Spooled with about 180-200m of line, I could say I have less then that now. As soon as me bait hits the water my burley bait just gets smashed on the surface and I would hold on with no way of stopping it.

Just a couple of hours fishing and I come home petrified of their brute strength and now I need to get more line. Plus hooks!

If anyone goes and give them a crack be prepared. None of them where small either. Had the camera with me but I couldn't get any onto the rocks, bugger!

Cheers guys,

Darda

Ballooning (not the hot air sort)

In a previous post I mentioned that we would like to try ballooning but didnt feel we were experienced enough to give it a try. Colin 2 said that we have to start somewhere. So, this weekend weather permitting, we are going to give it ago.

What sort of equipment do we need, rigs, sinkers etc. Do you have to use helium or can you just blow it up. We have never done this before so as much information as possible would be appreciated.

Thanks heaps,

Shortly

Cockburn Sound

Went out last night with a work mate in search of the elusive pinky i can never catch. Had a very nice Ride out on a 25ft Centre console from Freo Yaught club with 2 x 200hp Optimax engines (Doesnt take long to get anywhere in that!)

Unfortunately we dont have any locations, so we just went searching for some ground and found some ridges long the shipping channel in between kinda Carnac and Woodman point.

Didnt have much luck, only managed 2 rays and 1 Banjo For about 4 hours.

6.30 - 10.30pm last night

I was wondering if someone might be able to give me some err hints, general directions, general info to targetting Pinky's in the sound?
There doesnt seem to be alot of reefy locations in the sound, so i just look for ridges along where its been dredged.

Ive heard there is plenty around, but theres alsways plenty around just not where we seem to go.

Did burely up with 1 1/2 blocks of mulies, but still not much action.

cheers
