Speargun suppliers in Perth
Submitted by Ben85 on Wed, 2014-01-22 20:07Can anyone recommend a shop in the city or NOR who has a decent stock of guns at competitive prices. I see hookahdive is no longer in operation so not really sure where to go. I would like to avoid buying online as I want to see the gun in the flesh.
if anyone has a recommendation for a decent gun it would be appreciated, I'm after:
110cm
carbon
single band over 16mm
main use is for reef species in no more than 15m, I'm no pro, so looking to spend around the $300 mark for a fully set up gun.
cheers/Ben

Freediving courses in Perth
Submitted by Jdent on Mon, 2014-01-20 13:48Hey everyone! I'm an SSI certified Freediving instructor living and working in Perth. I teach Level 1 courses through PDA Balcatta. I'm running my next course 31 Jan-2 Feb and another Feb 7-9. The course costs $450 per student and I really only need 2 students to justify running the course, so grab a friend and sign up! You can call PDA Balcatta to register and get more details. On the level 1 you'll learn basic freediving theory, breathing techniques, proper diving techniques, safety, and we'll work on getting you down to 20 meters and/or staying at depth longer. This is a great course for either beginners or advanced divers and spearfishers. If you want more info about the course, either contact PDA Balcatta or just send me a message!
Hope to see you soon :)

Spearfishing Esperance
Submitted by Eezo on Wed, 2013-09-11 06:54Hi Lads and Ladies, I'm a mad keen spearo from Exmouth, I'm heading down to Esperance over Christmas . Is there any good 4x4 shore based spearfishing spots around that area or even a spearfishing club to get in contact with. If you're a keen spearo and looking for crew on your boat around that time I'm always willing to through some cash around for fuel etc.

Spearfishing on air - what's your opinion.
Submitted by duges66 on Mon, 2013-06-10 09:26TGMitchell posted asking for a dive partner http://fishwrecked.com/forum/looking-dive-partner. In the post he mentions he's keen to do some spearfishing. His thread was hijacked by those that don't agree with spearing on air & those that don't agree with those that don't agree with spearfishing on air. So this thread is for you all to tell us your opinions on this subject and let TGMitchell get on with looking for a dive partner.

Speargun reel setup
Submitted by Griffo84 on Mon, 2013-05-27 15:04G'day everyone,
I've recently bought a 1.2m rabitech stealth pro and an aussie reel. I have never set up/shot a gun with a reel before and was wondering how to correctly rig it up. In order would you attach the shooting line (line the gun comes with) to the bungee chord then attach the reel line to the other end of the bungee?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Griffo

Baldie babies
Submitted by Gypsy on Wed, 2013-05-08 12:53Hey all,
I am a marine researcher from Colombia doing work in WA with endemic fishes (found only in WA). At the moment I am looking at baldchin groper and what happens with this species in the center of its distribution where they are almost as abundant as rats, compared to the limits of their range (North at Coral Bay and South near Busselton), where they are rare. My focus is on looking for juveniles because they are the ones that need to make it to a new place, find good food and habitat and then make it to adults. So they are the ones that have it toughest of all before they can make it to those yummy 40cm baldies that we all wanna eat (almost as good as my Caribbean fish:). Therefore, to find out what limits populations of baldies from going to the north or to the south (as most people think will happen as oceans get warmer), I am seeking out baby baldies.
My next trip, lucky me, is taking me on a trip up north from Bluff to Exmouth looking for what happens with baldie babies at their northern limits. I am visiting Bluff, Warroora, Coral Bay and Exmouth and would like to suss out with you fishing folk out there if you know of any good spots. I have been finding babies in rubble/weed shallow water lagoonal areas mostly, and looking for some of those up north. Any ideas? Wanna share your baldie spots with me? Keen to help? Comment? Share? Drop me a line!

dolphin fish and wahoo metro monday
Submitted by fishing fanatic on Tue, 2013-04-09 09:59went out to stragglers nice and early yesterday and did a scuba for some crays, heaps of jumbos around and we manged a feed :), then hit the fads. i ended up shooting 3 dollies at the club marine fad and my mates couldnt manage to get a fish at this fad (school of around 18 fish left). then went to to fremantle sailclub fad. just before the fad we saw huge tuna jumping in the 50Kg+ size and heaps of dolphins. i jumped in with the go pro on onto some dolphins but as i hit the water they were gone, and i was surronded by dollies! i filmed this massive school for about 300m of drift but i had no intention of shooting another one. i was after something bigger ;). i got my two mates their first dollies each with my gun and they were stoked. did film them both miss their first shots though. then as they got on the boat out of the depth came in what i was looking for. a nice wahoo crusing in! him and his 10-14 buddies came in to have a look, but one got a bit to close for his own good, and it was on! it spooled my whole reel (50-65m) and dove straight down and with me kicking upwards with ll my might it still pulled me under for a bit. after a long battle i got him in my hand and i was pumped! bled him and then threw him on the boat and my day was done with my first wahoo! :).
sorry for the photo ill put better ones up tonight :)

Pneumatic Speargun Service
Submitted by nathan.hughes79 on Tue, 2013-03-19 09:45Can anyone tell me where I can get a Mares Cyrano 1100 serviced in Perth? I know Scubanautics do it down in Rockingham and Dolphin Scuba in Welshpool, but am up in Ocean Reef an dRockingham is way to far, and Scubanautics can't fit it in within the timeframe.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Cheers
