What type of flathead?
Submitted by Swamp on Wed, 2012-07-25 12:27Looking through some old photos. I found this pic of one of the meanest looking things I've ever caught. Hooked near the Burrup Peninsula in about 5 metres of water a couple of years ago.
The rows of nasty spikes on the head, long pelvic fins and elongated head compare to other flathead I've seen makes me think Fringelip Flathead - Sunagocia otaitensis but the max size has me unsure. Fishwreckapedia says max size is 30 cm. The lure in the pic is a 7inch gulp so this fish is 50cm+
Crap photo because I wasn't bring this thing onto my lap in the kayak
Cheers,
Swamp

Fish head ID
Submitted by Buz on Mon, 2012-07-23 19:06Just thought i would throw this up to see other people opinions on what fish this may be?
As you can see its only the head(about the size of my 11 boot) and it has been decaying for a bit. My first thoughts is a Hapuka?
But the location that i found it has me baffled. I'll see what other people think it may be, before saying were i found it.

Type of Fish
Submitted by Choobsy on Mon, 2012-06-04 16:21Can anyone please tell me what type of fish this may be, I caught what looks like a mullet from the beach at Golden Bay on Saturday night but it had whiskers on it like a threadfin salmon. It definetly was not a yellow eye mullet as I caught a few of those and they were different. Unfortunately I don't have a photo, any info would be appreciated. Cheers.

Esperance fish ID
Submitted by woody on Mon, 2012-05-28 20:41Hi guys, can anyone ID this fish? I've caught and released about a dozen of them from my tinny when I've been chasing groper, BA, harlies etc lately in 15-25M. They bloody go hard for their size, always think I've got queenie on when his ugly black head appears!! Any good eating?

Fish identification
Submitted by Blizen123 on Mon, 2012-05-28 19:28Hi folks
I am new to this fishing in Cockburn Sound and your forum. We went fishing on the weekend and caught a few leather jackets which were a nice size and tasted great but we also caught quite a few fish we had no idea what they were. Can I post the pics here and get them identified?
Cheers

I know the second ones a SHOCKING photo, but it was the only one I could get before the bastard jumped back into the water haha.

Turtle ID
Submitted by NORUN NOFUN on Fri, 2012-05-25 09:15I was looking through some photo's of a previous trip from Mindarie earlier this year, and came across a photo of a turtle that I had never seen before.
It was a perfect day on the water around 30 km out, with no wind and warm currents.
The turtle just appeared beside the boat and took a look and then dived back down, I was able to get a quick photo, but was unable to get a clear shot.
This thing would have been 1.5mtrs long and almost a metre wide, had long fin like shapes along it's back and the head/body shape was rectangular, it almost seemed quite pre historic.
I have only been fishing in Perth for the past 12 months, and this is the only turtle I have ever seen, as previously I am use to seeing the turtles up north, but this thing looked totally different.
I also had a dolphin come up to the boat and just sat there and looked at us, almost like he was expecting a feed. I grabbed a pilchard and leaned over the side and he took it straight from my hand - that blew me away ! I tink this dolphin was quite used to being feed one or two free pilchards in his time !
Does anybody know what type of turtle this is ? and is it common for Perth ?
