What is this fish species & name please
Submitted by fishin_chippie on Wed, 2011-04-13 19:17Hi, I caught this last night out the front between Mooloolaba/Coolum, it's got purpley blue marks around it's face, body really blueish on the top and blends to pink on it's belly with a very yellow tail that looks like it comes from the emperor/bream species, and it has no teeth. My neighbour used to be a pro fisho and thinks it may be a great barrier reef species. I'm really keen to find out what it is, looked through all my books that I have with no success.

Cross between Barramundi and Tripletail?
Submitted by GROGfish on Sun, 2011-01-16 21:12OK, here's an interesting one. Fishing with a mate at Flat Rocks he caught this nice looking fish around 45cm. Tail is not really clear, but was rounded. All our books and the wonderful Fishwrecked Identification Guide consulted in vain - no positive ID on this one.
Needless to say it was released after the pic was taken, but if its a keeper, we'd like to keep it next time.
Any positive identification appreciated.
Cheers

Bream?
Submitted by Jels on Thu, 2010-08-19 20:43Hi gang,
I'm a keen new angler who has been hitting up his local WA beach for a few fish. I'm pulling in a few bream and I just want to be able to identify them properly. I'm fishing on a tiny little rig with very light line. The bream are a lot of fun to pull in on such a small rig.
My only problem is distinguishing between black bream and yellowfin. Because there is a 5cm difference between the limits of the two, with Yellowfin needing to be 30cm and Black being 25cm. I was looking earlier at the fish board and I'm perhaps getting tarwhine, but after gutting and prepping, the fins of my fish took on a yellowish tinge. I've got the 12 to 13 anal fins like tarwhine description says. But I just don't know for sure.
I'm going to attempt to attach a small phone video clip of the little sucker I released yesterday, these are the ones I'm hooking. I'd love the input, thanks a lot

Tuna. Longtail? Northern Bluefin? Big eye?
Submitted by kye86 on Thu, 2010-08-12 19:55Been catching a few tuna out on the boat lately (Mostly by first time anglers who usually out fish me using my borrowed gear). i didnt originally put much thought into what species they were and called them all for longtails and chucked them back. it wasnt until i looked back through the photos that i noticed there were a few differences between them, im pretty sure the one in the first picture is there real longtail but im undecided on the others. They were all caught just north of Kalbarri in faily shallow water, under 15m

Swan River Fish
Submitted by TeabagSteve on Mon, 2010-04-12 10:04G'day
My Dad and I went fishing at my favourite spot on the swan...it's around where mosman park meets freo. I caught a fair few baby pink snapper and bream and then my Dad got this guy. He thought he had a snag and for a good five minutes went about trying to dislodge the hook but then this fish just popped out and surprised us. We have no idea what it is though. Sorry about the photos not showing the whole fish.

Does anyone know how to spot a pregnant black bream? any info would be great
Submitted by Camaz on Tue, 2010-02-23 23:54Gday.
Was fishing the other night in the swan hooked a nice little bream. Was wondering how you can tell when these fish are pregnant. Unfortunantly this fish was fatally hooked so i kept it. I found what looked like eggs in its stomach and was horrified. (I always put my bream back, even nice big ones). Just wondering if anyone knows how to spot when a black bream is pregant and if its only full grown ones that lay eggs. Any information would help so i can keep an eye out and fish for the future.
