LBG fishing Bali. Anyone been there and done it?
Submitted by Bungel on Thu, 2013-01-10 20:58Im looking at heading over to Bali in the next few months. Would like to do a bit of LBG fishing with GT's and such in mind.
Has anyone used any local LBG safari style charters?? Any that can be recommended.?
Just looking for any basic help to get me started.
Im not looking to get stuck into the crazy drinking and party life over there. Just keen on exploring some more remote areas that may offer a bit of serious LBG fishing action, along with a place to relax with my lady.
Cheers for any help you can give.
George.

Tailor not a nibble
Submitted by Neo on Sun, 2013-01-06 01:01Ok so Ive bought myself a 12 foot surf combo and a selection of poppers and slices.
I had a crack at Burns admittedly at the wrong time of day over lunch time last week. Targeting Taylor by walking plenty of beach throwing between all the reefy outcrops into white water and not a nibble for 4 hours.
I know this is the game but have you any other recommendations on how to catch a taylor or two on kures. Retrieval of lure speed, size and colour of lure. I tried a silver and blue and a green maniac 45 gram slice and a white with red head 30g popper.
I just found the onshore wind a bit of a pain. Still managing about 40 - 50 m casts. Need to try again at dusk but any advice would be great.
Many thanks

Submitted by quadfisher on Thu, 2013-01-03 21:58ok , he was only a little tacker, and we let him go to make someone elses day
but it hit and fought good enough to make me think a very nice tailor had hooked up.
Water was warm and very ,very weedy, finished the afternoon with 4 eatn sized tailor , 1 lost cobe
and the thanks of a couple in a high centred jeep, for doing the snatch.
No sherbs in sight , thank god to spoil my glory, but Im sure you can still smell prado clutch up
that way haha.

lucky bay mulla
Submitted by crezz on Tue, 2013-01-01 00:36i have been chasing my 1st mulloway for a good while now and thaught while i still have a few days off i should give it a red hot go. so with a packet of mulies and the rods on the roof me and the mrs jumped in the car and headed north for lucky bay!
day 1 found us driving up the beach at ledge point finding a place to camp the night and spend my packet of mulies on catching some decent mulloway bait. after setting up the deck chairs and flinging a mulie out past the breakers, it was less than a minuit before i saw my rod tip nibble and in no time i had my first taylor. this continued for the next couple of hours until the bait esky was full.
the next day after stoping in geralton for some fuel, bait and beers we were on our way to lucky bay! after lifting my feet crossing a train track i had high hopes and a smile on my face as the excitment grew. as we hit the gravel road to lucky bay i new we were close and i would be soaking a bait soon. we hit the beach and had a quick swim in the lagoon, then it was time to find a good place to fish and camp. we drove the strech all the way to waegoe and back before deciding that the beach was the way to go.
we set up camp just in front of a patch of reef with a good gutter running in front with an entrance through the breakers on the other. looked really fishy. so with the camp set up it was time to soak a bait. with the rods out it did'nt take long before one went off and a couple of minuits later i had dirty 4ft shovelnose. i fished the rest of the night catching taylor, dart and a nice silver bream going 42cm.
as the sun came up the next day a already had my bait in the water and about 2 hours later my big rod went off. i yanked it out of the holder and tightend up my drag as i watched my line peeling off the spool. i chased the fish up the beach for a good 50m or so however after getting a small amount of line back the weight dissapeared. i quickley wound in the slack to find i had been bitten off. i re rigged and had my taylor fillet back in the water.
i had two mulies on my other rod that was consistentley catching taylor and dart, even a small threadfin salmon. while rebaiting my taylor fillet my mulie rig went off pulling the rod over and down towards the water. i picked it up and struck! nothing. i left it there for a second and felt a bite, i set the hook and new i had something. while there was not much weight there was a heap of small head shake and in no time at all i had my first mulloway. wooohooo i was over the moon. at 47cm my first mulloway was no horse but certainley nothing to forget.
i rebaited and pegged my mulie past the breakers and a couple of mins later i had my second mulloway about the same size. i ended up getting four little soapies in the next hour then things went quiet. not a bite not even a nibble for the next 3 hours or so. time passed and baits got soggy and i had found myself out of mulies. the only option was to have two big taylor baits soaking while i soaked up some sun and some beers.
as i got up off my camp chair to check my bait the big snyder glas bent over and line started peeling off at an incredible rate. i picked up the rod and held on tight as i wached my spool empty right in front of me. so i tightened up the drag and started getting line back, as i was getting towed up the beach the wife was ready with the camera to take a video. but the fish turned and started heading towards my other rod so the video was cut short as my wife wound in my other rod. i was taking it easy in the heavy surf not to put to much strain on my 20lb mono line as i did'nt want to lose it. then finaly i saw the silver flank in a wave and new exactly what i had, the reason for all those cold nights spent fishing beaches and rock walls finaly paid off with a trip north to lucky bay.
with my new pb mulloway landed just over the 1m mark (the fish ruler on my car only goes to 1m) i was one happy camper, or fisho, and after a quick few very happy snaps i ran back to the surf held the big girl by the tail then watched it dissapear under the foamy blue white water at lucky bay beach. i fished for a nother couple of hours till dark with no more fish but it did'nt matter, i had got what i came for, my dream fish ticked off. what a way to end 2012. next 1m+ flathead!

Perth Tigers
Submitted by snapper on Sun, 2012-12-30 20:10Sherbert and myself went for a fish last night to one of our spots north of Perth .The fishing was slow with some tailor coming on the bite at sunset and for the next few hours, with nothing happening and with the predicted wind change at 2 am we decided to hit the swags.
Sherbs woke me not long after as the wind had changed and he had got a balloon out. I had my first balloon out about 30 minutes later and waited for some action. In the next couple of hours I had a couple of big runs and ended up getting bitten off. The next balloon went out and I was hit about 600mtrs off the beach. In half an hour I had landed my first shark off the beach , the fact it was a 192 cm Tiger made it all the sweeter.
Sherbs was next up with his bait getting nailed about 300 mtrs out and nearly getting spooled on its first run , 45 mins later he too had a Tiger of 189 cm on the beach.
Both sharks were measured under the rules of our club , " The Perth Land Based Game Fishing Club""which gave us weights of 95kg and 91kg . It took some time to get both sharks back into the water but once we got them past the first breaker they both swam off.

Dunsborough and surrounding areas - beach fishing
Submitted by sonoftherock on Sun, 2012-12-30 17:06Hi all,
I'll be down south from next week for a while on holiday. I was hoping someone might be able to point me in the direction of a few decent fishing beaches... Nothing too extreme, as I'll be there with my girlfriend, who doesn't take to kindly to me spending all day hunting around for a feed!
Was just hoping I might be able to find a decent beach holding a few whiting or some other bread and butter species?
We only have access to 2wd I'm afraid!
Thanks in advance!

White Hills/Preston beach report
Submitted by Wes F on Sun, 2012-12-30 10:41Well for those of you who fish south of Mandurah. Headed down to White Hills Friday arvo 1 to avoid the heat 2 to wet a line 3 just to kick back and relax before heading O/S. The beach is a piece of cake to drive on, nice and wide most spots. A lot of reef on various areas partly cover by sand as happens most summers. Picked out a spot I hadn't tryed before, went for a snorkel along the reef for a look see. A fair variety of fish to see. Than it was time to crack a beer & rig up, bit of burl sent out to start a hot little session on Hezza's, Tarwhine and the most Skippy I've caught of the beach ever, nothing huge but a couple getting upto 30cm's, kept a few for a feed and some Hezza's for bait. Just on sunset true to tailor form I landed a 35cm model and me son got one half hour later about the same size, nothing else for the night so relax and a kip on thebeach before a early rise. The next morning saw a very low tide so a bit more burl and a couple of hours more fishing with more Hezza's and Skippy. Time to pack up and head home. The weather was awesome and thebatteries are re-charged.
To all Fisho's and their families: A Happy New Year.
See you all on the flip side.

So I've been fishing..
Submitted by pigdaddy on Fri, 2012-12-28 15:00Hey all,
So did some reading etc since first joining this forum (haven't posted much but am a mega lurker) and got what I think is a pretty good mixed bag of goodies to satisfy my fishlust. HOWEVER.. I couldn't catch a fish if there was a school 5m from me on the shore (more on THAT story in a little).
Went out with my mate and had a play on ammo jetty, pulled juvy trumpeter (i think) and some slimy's, couple of blowies etc.. mate pulled up a baby pink snapper!. Come xmas and went down sth with family (binningup) and was bustin to get my fish on.. WELL.. head out 0500 one morning was utterly sensational weather, soft gentle (low tide) sea.. couple down the beach pulled a couple whiting and mostly blowies.. I burley'd up had a good slick going and started playing with my 10g halco twisty (had no real bait).. blowies wouldn't even touch that (one did eventually.. maybe his mates dared him lol). Dolphins where having a play 20-30m off shore which was nice to watch but otherwise no action. Tried fishing the beach in the evening/night to chaise tailor and what a mistake that was.. pounding surf tide was huge wind howling and me again getting nothing except a lost rig on weed/rock.
Which has led me to the conclusion that i have utterly no f...n idea what the hell I'm doing. Am doing lots of research and have only just learnt a basic single dropper paternoster rig but still have heaps to learn and would love it if someone could point me in a direction of where I can pull some fish from. As mentioned before I fish for all so salt and fresh but am more prone to salt (beach/jetty etc) oh and squid.. mad on squid.. and all landbased.
I'm on holidays now for another 2 weeks and wifey has given me a green light to fish my head off so am eager to head out with anyone anywhere (will put in for fuel/piss) so I can learn hands-on.
Could anyone tell me what months are best for what and where?.. hear people all the time saying if the X are running.. do they run seasonally or kinda all year round.. sucks throwing lines in again say for tailor or mully's (the 2 species i'm most keen on) when there's none within 20km any whichway.
Now.. the afore mentioned story - Was fishing yesterday nearish buffulo beach about maybe 2-3km from binningup. and we notice a school of atleast 30-50 fish all crammed within 20sqm of each other flopping all over each other and whatnot travelling towards perth within 5-15m of the shore. One fella ID'd as tailor but we're not sure.. looked too brown, maybe salmon.. again not sure and all atleast 30cm MINIMUM.. few blokes threw fresh baits at them but nothing... i chased them with my halco twisty and retrieved into them and nothing.. they wouldn't even look at anything anyone did. I'm thinking maybe they where breeding or something as they just kept on swimming ignoring everything else. Have never seen it before and in hindsight wished I had filmed it.
So after that wall-of-text the TL:DR is still need help on where and when to go, even better if I could tag along with someone experienced and learn, am land based but keen and will chuck in petty and beer money. Thanks again for all the awesome help from the community so far - am absorbing colin's beginners rig post at the moment.
Thanks again and tight lines!
PS.. think i got a bum steer in a tackle shop. Was talking with one of the blokes there about my tailor fetish and how shiny metals are meant to get em on (supposedly) was gonna buy a 30-50g twisty but he reckon'd there only good till the sticker wears off and instead sold me some heavy ass dimpled spoon? lure.. thing feels 50-60g and bends my surf rod tip about 3 inch when rigged but i can boot it out about 50m. Probably more once i fix my cast technique as I feel I can get better distance but my rigs seem to lollipop a lot (high arc but not a lot of actual distance). He said lure can be worked on a fast retrieve for surface run or let it sink a bit and work the middle.. but the weight of this thing has it on the sea floor when cast out to what I think at BEST might be 8-15m of water within mere seconds. Thing cost me 10 buck so lesson learnt but if anyone more experienced can let me know if it was a bum steer atleast I can avoid him next time as the shop itself is good.

Day 1 S-bend
Submitted by Redbucket on Thu, 2012-12-27 07:13Day 1 S-bend, arrived late arvo. Unpacked and headed straight to lucys, very Windy and a little weed. Couple of soapies taken next to me. Pulled in a couple of small darts or surf trevally. Then 3 tailor, none of them hooked on the gang. All went for the small running surf popper I had attached for fun on the leader..... Going to go buy a couple more so the missus can use them too. :-D
Lucy's @ Greenough 21/12/2012
Submitted by Busted Arse on Sun, 2012-12-23 10:35Finally caught up with an old mate Al on his home turf. We had all these plans to hit the water and spend 24 hours of ardcore fishing. In the end at 10am we went to pick up a wicked beach runner that was given to him and ended up staying and sampling the guys fine homebrew for a bit longer then expected and had us stuffed for the rest of the day of which i ended up passing out on his couch and amazed i still had my pants on or hadnt had my face painted by Al.
Anyway we eventually made our way to Lucy's which is literally a stone throw away from Als place on the other side of the dune. While im fluffing about swapping between running paternoster rigs, to fixed paternosters, removing weed, generally trying to be too clever with my rigs not to mention its been a while since ive cast anything longer then 7 foot so I wasnt exactly hitting the sweet spots, Al is onto 3 decent sized Tailor, the largest coming in under 50cm and smallest around 45cm. Al 3 Me 0. Al wasnt shy in reminding me.
At this staged I was a bit annoyed, made obvious by my silence. The only thought going through my mind is if I finish the day with a donut, this kunt will never let me forget about it and give me hell for the rest of my life. So I settle on a running star sinker rig. As im slowly winding her in Al goes are you getting any bites? Nahhhh......nek minnit SLAM!! First tailor for me in the bag. I told Al about how relieved I was to get off the mark so now I could relax and enjoy the sand, surf and sun. This wasnt a competition after all......
By now my casting was improving and was firing them out like bullets and hitting the sweet spot everytime. BANG! BANG! Another 2.......by now we were even and kindly reminded him so haha now that I'd caught up it was on. YEP IT IS A COMP allright!!
Al gets one and I get another so we finish up the hour and a half session on 4-4 happy with the numbers and more then enuff to feed 2 families with tailor patties but........ I wait for Al to de-rig and cut his hooks and sinker off and i saw the oppurtunity to get 1 up and so I took it. You know how it is...ONE MORE CAST!! Lucky for him all i collected was weed.

West Coast Land Based Fishing Competition Results
Submitted by snapper on Fri, 2012-12-21 18:57Apoligies for the late post but I have had computer problems and too much work.
The latest competition was held last weekend from 4pm Saturday until 8am Sunday morning from north of Two Rocks to Ledge Point . Weed was a problem all along the coast with the weed in the shore break a particular problem
until the wind dropped around 2am, which provided better conditions for those who fished through the night.
Ten Anglers fished the competition and a range of fish were caught including Tailor, Eagle Rays, Common Black Rays, Bronze Whaler, Shovelnose and a Leopard Shark.
The rresults were as follows
First Place Matt J 115 points
Second Steve Herbert 81.2 points
Third Vincent Stacey 72.4 points
Matt had an impressive haul in trying conditions that included three Eagle Rays and two Shovelnose Sharks , Sherbie caught 10 fish in total . The overall tally of fish submitted for the competition was 32 which was a great result for bad conditions.
PS I let Sherbie come second because I had the sense to get in my swag for 6 hours.
Snapper.

Bronzie Weekend! Ledge Point, WA
Submitted by jarrad.lachlan on Mon, 2012-12-17 15:13Went up to Ledge Point on the weekend, about an hour and a half trip North of Perth with 4 mates. fished on 2 occasions, saturday and sunday for about 10 hours each session. The result was 7 Bronzies, all between 1 metre and 1.5 metres. Also one huge Black Ray. All using heavy overhead combos, (TLD 30, TLD 50, TYRNOS 30, TALICA 20) and kayaking baits off the beach. seaweed became an annoying issue that had to be delt with, and also the heavy waves off the first 10m of the beach while on the kayak, but once your out there its easy. Bait was Mullet and Blue Mackie. 7 Bronzies, cant complain, decent effort for a few 15 year olds. (Jarrad Lachlan, Jake Florenca, Bailey Ullrich, Tim Larcher, Jesse Mirco)

Mulloway at night
Submitted by LB Fisher on Wed, 2012-12-12 09:16Hi all,
I have my sights set on nailing a decent Mulloway off the beach this summer and I am new to Perth so can anyone tell me if my thoughts here are on the money or a bit misguided -
My thoughts are that tomorrow is a full moon and a high tide around 9:30ish depending on where I fish. Its the start of summer. This says to me that if i dont go and soak some big baits off a metro beach somewhere then im a clown
any thoughts? recommendations for metro beaches? anyone wanna join me?
I dont have a 4x4 so I need to be able to walk to the beach gutters from the car park

What is the best land based fishing experience in the north west? Steep Point, Quobba Station or Somewhere Else?
Submitted by koroldanylo on Mon, 2012-12-03 10:44Hi Everyone,
Im planning a trip mid next year with my dad for some hard core land based fishing.
I've been doing my research and two places keep coming up: Steep Point & Quobba.
I would appreciate any advice you guys could give about what locations would be best for newbies like us...or have I hit the two best spots on the head?
We have never done this type of fishing trip before (although we are avid fisherman and have always dreamed of doing this) and it will be a new experience for us catching game fish off dangerous rock ledges.
I think we would prefer to hire a 4wd and to stay at some accomodation as opposed to camping (as we don't have all the camping gear and want to make things easier).
This could possibly rule out Steep Point as I believe camping is the only option.
Does this rule my locations down to Quobba only - as the station has accomodation available.
Is Quobba good or would you recommend other spots for game fishing off land?
We would love to try for game fish (spanish mackerel, tuna, cobia etc) and also switch to bottom bouncing for spanner, cods, trouts, emperors etc).
It seems like Quobba caters for both.
Also, I was thinking about going mid next year. Does this timing affect the fishing?
I spoke to a really healpful lady at Quobba Station who recommended coming in April.
She said the Spaniards/Tuna would be possible then but not the Cobia as they are caught Nov/Dec.....but the bottom fish are available all year round.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Also...how hard is it to catch a fish there?
Cheers
Dan
