Heading out for a overnighter

If anyone else is as brave or mad as me I'll be heading to Whitehills for a overnighter. Be about half way between Preston entry and White Hills.     Good Luck over ther weekend see you out there.  look for a Red Maverick

whitehills follow up with fish!

Thanks to wes , and others we hit whitehills beach about 12 midday yesterday.

The tide was going down , which made it fun driving on the damp high tide mark, on the gq

i usually go for 20psi front and about 15psi rear, as a starting point , for my beach driving , never had a problem

at that , The conditions were great, too great for tailor i thought, but hey you just go with it sometimes.

Stopped at the spot , thanks wes, and the herring were like bloody piranhas! haha.

Every cast , the buggers were into it . Dont mind herring but today we were after bigger fare.

About 5 we moved abit south, and landed a good sized salmon trout, sort of a half salmon if you like.

Then within 10 mins we landed 2 more, all the same size , and they pulled better than a tailor of the same size.

Stayed till 6 , no tailor, maybe later into the dark they may have come  in with the high tide.

From the spot all the way to preston very weedy, so the north half is the goods atm.

crappy picture but just to show the size of the 1/2 salmon.

Hi Guys

North mole

Gday guys

Whats the chance of catching something when casting a few metal lres at freo

Cheers

anyone drove white hills lately?

gidday, any one been from w/hills down to preston lately?

might go tomorrow, and cause quads are banned now , will have to stretch the

td42 engine in the gq , just wondering if its any softer than usual .

Went to 2 rocks the other day and the beach there from 2 rocks to loonies was mainly

undrivable to 4wds, you should have seen the size of some of the wheel tracks left behind!

Some crew must have had all sorts of dramas going by the belly out marks 3 foot deep.

Took the quad and yep powered across the lot. Got 4 good sized winter tailor at about 9.30 am

from up near loonies. Lots of weed around in spots , but find a clean green spot , no matter

how small , and you will find some nice tailor 500-600 mm.

s-bend reports

Morning guys, im headding to s-bend from Friday and was hiping someone might have a recent report? If anyone else isup that way stop in and say hi, look for a white patrol with a sticker " born to fish, forced to work"

Mulloways at Moore river

I was lucky enough to  have been home with the lads for their school holidays..

So i decided that on thursday that i would take them up too Moore river for the night..

Now i figured that because of the recent opening that a few fish maybe around....I was not let down..

Catching my first two Mulloway ever...YAY..Both were just under 60 cm and weighed abit...

Poor bugger beside me got a couple of taps but didnt land...

Fished just to the right of the mouth so i got no weed that others were complaining about..

Lots of baby brim around....and they fight harder than the 2 mullos combined...

Have a Gr8 time fishin!

exmouth land report?

Heading up to exmouth (you beauty) next week and just wondering if anyone knows what's going on around the beaches? I'm land-based & sadly don't have a boat.. Is there any significant bait fish schools hanging around any bays on the west side? In the past few years there has been and it's been heaps of fun getting stuck into the trevs/queenies etc. Any other land based reports from around there would be much appreciated. Will pop into tackleworld and have a chat but would love any info from FW crew.

Cheers ! Can't wait to get out of this town and get up there!!

Burley up much with sp's & lures?

Having a hard time getting into some fish lately on sp's and was wondering would it be worth chucking a heap of burley in or just keep doing the old cast and move on trying to find the fish way?

Been off work for the week and have tried Mindarie and Hillarys a few afternoons with nothing biting, its killing me! Is anyone eles getting into anything this week?

Tailor lures

I'm planning to give the lure fishing for tailor a go.

Any suggestions on lures and where can I buy them?

Regards

Werner

White Spotted Shovelnose on 'Old Faithful'

I had the urge to visit a great fishing spot I used to fish about 30 years ago north of Wedge with mates in the Offshore Angling Club. We regularly pulled some very large Tailor and Mullaway from the beach during the cold winter nights.

Anyway, I jumped out of the cot at about 3:00am on Saturday (a task made easier because the bride was away), loaded the gear and headed off. My plan was explore the area, hopefully remember the spots and pick a nice gutter ready for the evening. I arrived only to find that the spot I had in mind is now part of the Target Rock Sanctuary Zone. A shame as the spot looked really promising - no weed, an obvious deep drop off from the beach and gutters running to the reef systems either end of the beach. After reminiscing for a while and thinking about what might have been I decided to look for a legal sopt between Wedge & Lancelin.

After checking out heaps of spots and finding tons of weed everywhere I settled for a less likley looking but much less weedy spot. I did the usual and started turfing mulies out - I was actually using a rod and reel that I have had for 30 years - A Butterworth 7153 teamed with one of my trusty Alvey 651Cs (not the original line though). I've bought many new rods and reels since but I still like to drag this from the shed sometimes. The mulies were getting torn to pieces in a matter of seconds by plagues of whiting. It was the same all along this stretch of beach.

After turfing mulies and poppers at the edge of a nearby reef without success (with a different rod) I decided to try a live whiting. I've caught both Tailor and Mullaway on Whiting before so I thought you never know... plus they were pretty easy to catch on gulp plastic worms and small jighead. Not much happened for a couple of hours but just on dusk the set Alvey rod screamed off. At first I had it picked for a Ray of some sort but as I have been surprised before I decided to respect the creature and play safe. The runs were extended, not the sort of short intermittent type of runs you expect from a Ray. Plus this thing had much more stamina than a Ray (and nearly more than me!). It seemed too weighty to be a Mullaway plus I didn't sense any of the headshakes often felt from a large scalefish. I didn't think the runs were fast enough for a Whaler type shark so I started to wonder if it could be a 'Whitespot'.

Did I mention I was on my own? After dancing with this thing up and down the beach for about 30 mins or so I started to wonder how I would gaff it if I won the battle. As the band played its final song luckily the last dance took us back towards the car. Sensing that I might actually beat this thing I eased the drag off enough to grab my 10 foot pole gaff from the roof of the car. Then it was a case of juggling the gaff and giving the fish heaps. In the failing light I saw the telltail two dorsal fins of the 'whitespot' only about 30 meters out. That final 30 meters seemed to take as long as the previous fight but I finally managed to get the creature in the wash. After 5 or 6 failed attempts I finally managed to sink the gaff in and drag the beast up on the beach.

I was knackered but not as knackered as my 6 foot white spotted friend. Time for a couple of beers and a feed. The morning saw more of the same - mulies hammered by Whiting. There was an unseasonal howling Easterly blowing and if I hadn't been so far down the beach baitcasting mulies, I may have gotten back to my Alvey rod in time after something grabbed the Whiting under a baloon and screamed over the reef. So, not the spot I had in mind or the species but at least I scored something... and on my old faithful beach outfit. Cheers for reading.

Coral Bay off the shore?

G'day FW crew,

Never fear, I'm not asking where is good to fish in Coral bay off the shore (I have used the search function) however I am wondering if anyone has been up there recently and how they went off the shore? Any beaches go really well? any bait fish around?

heading up there in school holidays like many other punters and their families but unlike many of them we sadly don't have a boat. still love the place even if all i do is wander up and down the amazing beaches all day with SP's and lures and every now and then jump in for a swim/snorkel. tough life. Any recent repors would be very much appreciated!
