Dunsborough - Land based

Hey

Heading down to Dunsborough for a week with my nephews and was hoping someone could point me in the general direction of a few decent spots. I'll be in 4X4 so anywhere not to mental will be ok. I'm looking for the usual tailor, herring, skippy etc, also something bigger would be welcome. Any tips or spots will be appreciated.

Cheers

Kabrit

mindarie rocks

Went down this morning just after 6. First cast in over a month and managed to get a small 35cm tailor. Wish I had gotten up earlier, as he was the only one.... Played around with the light rod and got a few sand whiting, even put one out as a livie...but no takers.

All in all was good to get out. The herring didn't show up for the other fishos either, but I did see one guy pull up 2 fish in the distance, looked like a small ray and a flathead.

Just had a awesome lunch... Blackened tailor fillets with chilli sauce and salad.

Beach Buddy Wanted - Brit in Perth (Dalkeith Area) over Xmas & New Year

 Hi, Newbie to the site.

I am visiting my son in Perth over the Xmas/New Year period, and wondered if any local(s) beach fishermen might be happy for me to tag along.

Not a novice angler, so not seeking someone to teach me how to fish. but how to fish in Australia.

Cheers

Steely

Can anyone identify this beach, about 10km north of Leeman?

It looks like it might be a good spot for beach camping, although there does appear to be somesort of permanent residence there. Does anyone know anything about it, like whether it's suitable for camping/fishing?

Thanks guys,

Smez.

Rocks

The largest Shark for the night weighed in at 17 kg's and no Rays were landed

Shaun was the standout for the night taking three Dusky Whalers and one ugly thing  (Wobbegong) on Slides   and was the winner on the night

Vince (Snapper ) was second with four Mulloway and one Tailor

Gavin , Kyle and Dave tied for third spot .

The next competition is around the 16th of December , so you need to organise your Christmas catch ups around this date  or if you are interested in joining in get in touch.

beach camping spots?

Hi all, thought this might be the best place to post this question.

I've just had a roof tent fitted and am keen to find a nice camping spot, not too far from Perth, to introduce the missus to the pleasures of beach fishing.

I'm hoping to find somewhere quiet and remote (no rangers/boguns!) that has a fair bit of level beach left to camp on at high tide. Not too bothered how good the fishing is at this stage.

Any suggestions much appreciated.

Tamala Station Shark Bay land based fishing advise.

Hi All,

Have just recently signed up and am looking forward to getting back into my fishing after years of not having to many fishing trips. Am heading up to Shark Bay's Tamala Station next week with my wife and the dog for a week of camping at Honeymoon Bay. Was hoping that someone might have some advise on fishing around the different areas. Any suggestions or advise would be greatly appreciated, i.e. baits, lures, plastics, times, tides and locations. I don't have a boat so will only be fishing from the shore. I have heard its a lovely spot and is reasonably well protected from most of the prevailing winds.

Thanks in advance and would appreciate any advise at all even if its not just about the fishing.

Wilbinga Conditions

Hey fellas... just wondering if anyone has been up to Wilbinga this week and knows what the conditions are like up there? Is there much weed around? and how soft is the beach atm?

Planning to do a bit of exploring tomorrow and a fish in the afternoon. Think we'll head in via Wilbinga road and do some exploring up through the tracks to find a spot accessible through the dunes to avoid driving up the beach.

Hopefully will have something to report on sunday.

Nick

Jurien Bay reports

Hi all,

I'm going to be in Jurien Bay for a few days next weekend and was hoping to get a bit of fishing done!

I've never been out that way before though... what can I expect around this time of the year?  What should I be targetting?  Do the beaches fish well at this time of the year?  I have heard Hill River can be quite productive, however I don't have a 4wd!  Any suggestions?

How about the Jetties?  On google earth I can pick out a couple of Jetties, a groyne and a rock wall over at the marina.  Are any of these worth persisting with?

Thanks in advance for any help!

holiday destinations with good LB fishing

wasn't sure if this is the right forum, but seeing as though i'll be doing lb fishing i figured i'd use this one.

looking at organising a trip in january for the family and some friends and would like some input from you all. looking at somewhere no more than 5 or 6 hour drive from perth, with holiday home rentals (for the chicks). all the blokes are keen fisho'z so would like someplace productive, unfortunatlly we don't have a boat so it's landbased all the way. i was thinking busso, but me brother inlaw reckons it's not that great.

madora bay

New to WA

Hi everyone. This is my first post so I thought I would introduce myself and give you a bit of background info.

I have recently arrived in Australia from the UK and am living in Joondalup. I am looking to buy some new kit here and try something new. In the uk I fished off the tops of 400 foot cliffs for Cod, Wrass, Bass. My kits consisted of a Ron Thompson Axcellerator 13'6" super stiff rod, a pen 555 multiplyer and a carbon pole 18 foot to allow line clearance. This was the only type of fishing I took part in as there were no decent beach locations. I am looking to try something new and would like to try some lure fishing Orr the beach and rocks around Burns beach, Hillaries, Mindari etc.

Could you recommend some cheap kit that would be suitable for local fish, including rod, reel, lures. Idealy a spin rod but I've seen some light baitcasters such as the Shakespeare Firestorm Baitcast Combo - 5'6" From BCF. Would this be any good? What are the local species to target? Are any dangerous to handle ( like a lot of things in WA) All of my kit is still in storage in the UK and I will not be able to get it for another 11 months until it is shipped so I'm not looking for expensive kit just cheap and cheerful that I can land a few fish with. Thanks in advance.

Preston/WhiteHills

Looking at heading down for an overnighter Sat'day. Normally enter from White Hills end, anyone want to catchup look for red Maverick wagon.

Any news on what the beach and weed is like?

Finally broke the 45cm tailor barrier

been keeping an eye on the tides4fishing website someone posted on here and sunday reported to be a very high activity day. so went to ledge point with the boys for an overnight trip .  was hoping for a massive tailor session, which unfortunately was not the case. but did hook one on saturday night measuring 50cm. and another on sunday morning measuring 47cm.  no other fish taken over the weekend but very happy with finally breaking the 45cm barrier. and they tasted so good haha.

Catching garfish in Mid-west WA

Hi.  Is it possible to catch garfish, pilchards etc in and around the Geraldton region?  And if so, by using which techniques?  Thanks

Sam

Targeting Tailor (and other larger fish) from Rocky Points

Hi. What type of rig do people use when fishing for tailer and other larger species?  I am mainly keen to try fishing from rocky points (and adjoining reefs) into deeper water in mid-west areas such as Flat Rocks, S-Bend, south of greenough river etc.

- Style of rig,

- Breaking strain/type of line

- Type of sinker and general weight (obviously depending on conditions, but general range of weights?)

- Bait

I tried a paternoster rig, with a single 30lb leader coming off a 3-way swivel (forget the size).  I attached a mulie onto 3 ganged hooks (0/3).  I just attached the hooks through the side of the mulie with the head facing down.  Is this the best way to attach a mulie, as I had a few disappear on me? Thanks

Sam

Redfin perch??

Hi all, I'm thinking if chasing some red fin this weekend, just after some advice from people. I'm thinking of going to serpentine falls/dam. Are they that far down stream or do I have to go further upstream?

also what are the best lures to use? Plastics or hard bodied?

any advice would be great.

cheers
