Eating whiting
Submitted by Neo on Mon, 2013-04-15 23:47So when not hunting the notorious tailor I've been playing inside the marina with bream and pinkies. But always thrown all fish back as just after a bit of fun.
As sand whiting have no size limit what would be a decent edible size. I've seen people taking really small whiting which to me seems like a waste of a good fish that could have grown.
even with no size limit what do you guys consider too small for eating once filleted.

Fishing With Soft Plastics
Submitted by mcbridemitch98 on Mon, 2013-04-15 22:42I Went Fishing At Ocean reef marina on sunday at about 7am, I was using soft plastics with a jig head that was bigger than needed but that was so there was more weight which= a bigger cast, i noticed that i was having so much more activity than anyone else, everyone was using lures, my dad and cousing used lures and got 3 blowies and 1 herring between themselves. I got 6 herring and everyone else was getting blowies...why is this and what have you caught with soft plastics?

New 1-3kg flicky
Submitted by Neo on Sat, 2013-04-13 21:05So decided to upgrade my cheapo $20 Jarvis Walker 6 foot 2 a 4 kg spin combo today.
Got a bargain at Rays.
Outdoor Expedition Nanostrike Rod - 6.6', 1-3kg, graphite blank for $40. Paired it with a 2500 Abu spin reel for $30 and were good to go.
I know it's marked as a 1-3kg rod designed for soft plastic and small lures but that's all the info you get.
What weight lure would you consider a small lure, do you think that it could handle a 10g twisty.
My plastics weigh 4-6g and hard bodies 6-8.
Last thing I want to do is take the tip off with a twisty.

Tailor at Mindarie
Submitted by Neo on Wed, 2013-04-03 22:48So still on the hunt for a tailor, where are the spots at mindarie people seem to catch tailor?
inside the wall, outside the wall, off the very end, further inside the marina by the boats, the boat ramps, by the pub, right round the corner at my guaranteed bream spot?
Going to have another bash tomorrow so picking the right spot would be an advantage.
Cheers.

Submitted by mateusz on Tue, 2013-04-02 16:18I was just wondering how the weed situation is in yanchep? Went over a week ago n it was fishable but still annoying ....
I usually fish the lagoon area which has been producing tailor, I was thinking to give club cap a go tomorrow.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

What now?
Submitted by Mattb123 on Thu, 2013-03-28 22:45So it seems that the chopper run is well and truly over (at Floreat at least). What's the landbased metro plan for the next 6 months? It has been a few years since I fished out of summer... but I'm going to keep at it but not really sure what to target? Or am I just missing out and tailor are a year round prospect?

Holiday Visit
Submitted by linc1464 on Tue, 2013-03-26 20:58Hi all,
I'm a UK based fisherman in the stages of planning a two week fishing holiday in Western Australia. I came across this forum and am looking for a few pointers.
Where I live (Edinburgh) the fishing is crap to say the least and what i'm primarily interested in getting out of the trip would be the chance to tangle with something big - either a Shark or a big Ray (hopefully both). The plan is to fly into Perth, rent a car and head off up the coast toward Exmouth fishing everywhere and anywhere along the way.
At this stage, before i go and sort flights out, i wanted to ask what you guys would consider the prime time of year for land based fishing over there (and especially for the big stuff)?
Any help would be gratefully appreciated!
Steve

How to recognize channels from beach/rocks
Submitted by RobSkippy on Mon, 2013-03-25 09:19Hey folks,
Being really novice, but getting more and more into fishing, I would need some advice. I read a lot about how it is important to find channels when fishing from beach/rocks, now my question is how you recognize these and why it is important to find them. Eater weekend we're going to Denmark to have some tries at whiting, herring or whatever is easy to catch over there. Do you need to be in channels for these sorts as well?
Really in to the dark about this as last saturday did a try from City Beach but all caught was a little crab on bits of squid on a paternoster set up.
Thanks
Rob

Tailor with glow sticks.
Submitted by Neo on Sun, 2013-03-24 16:49So I was spinning in Mindarie marina on Friday night pulling in pinkies whiting and a few decent bream when 2 guys come down fishing unweighted mullies with glow sticks on their leader?
not seen this before, I am new to fishing in Australia but is this an effective method if catching tailor? They pulled a couple of just undersized ones in before I left but maybe one to try. Also amazed me that fishing right round the corner past The Boat still was producing tailor. Tried a couple of weeks ago off the end of the wall and not a bite in 5 hrs.
obv doing something wrong for tailor.

coogee any good?
Submitted by mike1234 on Wed, 2013-03-20 16:38Hi guys new to site. Was at north mole saturday night and was using squid and medium ganghooks, something took off and I could hardly hold it! Jumping out the water, couldnt see what it was, then ended up hiding under a rock cos line got badly snagged. Whatever it was it had alot of power, any ideas of what it could have been?
Also been ducking down to coogee, where the new housing development is, has anyone had any luck there before? Small herring for me but thats about it after two fishes.

Any tips for fishing spots/ fish to target on a weeks hols down Margaret River?
Submitted by Brickie33 on Tue, 2013-03-19 21:18Hi guys just off down to Prevelly/ Margaret river for a week this sat, been there a few times and had a bit of luck at Eagle bay with Bream an other stuff but not much else, havent had the chance to fish canal rocks yet but it looks fishy to me. Anyone know of any areas round that or the Margaret river area that would be worth a go? Its nothing but herring round these parts for me at the mo so a change would be good, all ideas welcome, cheers!
rod for rock and surf
Submitted by just_fishin on Mon, 2013-03-18 17:20i've been out of the fishing game for more then 6 months now, and i'm keen to get back into it.
would like to start off by getting an outfit for rock and surf fishing.
will 10-20lb with 10-50gram cast weight be too much? the other option is 8-16lb with 7-35gram cast weight.
will be targeting tailor but want to be able to tackle other fish when they come along too.
whats the general lure weight for tailors? if the 7-35gram rod is enough then that is all i want.
