Interesting research report.
Submitted by Michael Yoni on Sun, 2013-12-22 12:05Quite an interesting research done which is not research related.
Try the same experiment at home and see if its reproducible.

help me pimp my boat
Submitted by straith on Sun, 2013-12-22 04:50Hi all,
Merry xmas to everyone first.
Just looking for some ideas from all you boaties. Ive just bought a 6.1 Trailcraft cuddy cab and I want to put a few things on it to make it more comfy and useable. 1st on my list is an auto anchor winch. 2nd probably some nice led lighting. Any ideas tips on best to go for etc would be appreciated. Also it has fold up side bench seats which I really like. Dont know why more boats dont have these. But the usual back bench seat is missing do I need to get one made or bought to fit across rear wall. Removeable if possible. Any ideas again ....
Porta potty is an essential for missus so any recommendations please.
It already has the package navmans sounder and gps. Sounder works ok as sounder but fish finding looks to be limited. The gps works but doesnt acquire sats so may have issues. Either way they are both micro screens and so i guess im looking for a gps unit that has decent screen that anyone can recommend. If it includes a good fishfinder maybe ill.just flick both navmans. There the main things I can see so far but if anyone has done anything to their own that they reckon is a must id love to hear about it.
Cheers

Quobba Report - Nov 2013
Submitted by Iceman on Sat, 2013-12-21 21:12Hi all
Finally have the photos from our recent trip to Quobba and a brief report of how we went. Anglers - Will, Jesse, jay and Mark
This was our 5th Trip and after all the palnning and the 11 hour drive from Perth we arrive about 2.30pm and greeted with some light rain and light winds.
We literally threw the gear into the chalet grabbed the fishing gear and by 3.30pm fishing a ledge not far north of the homestead. Conditions were perfect but no fish.
First couple of days were fairly quiet with Jesse catching a couple of Baldies and a nice cod. Will also picked up a nice Cobia. Very few mackies around and those we caught were undersize.
Was not until Tuesday that the Shark Mackeral started to show up with a few Spaniards in the mix. When then schools came through the fishing was existing with multiple fish chasing our lures.
2 days we got our limit and came close on others. We got smoked by some big Spaniards and the local shark population was again a nuisance. On many occassions we had multiple hook ups which allowed us to land more fish this trip. Got quite hectic on some of the ledges with 3 fishos trying not to get tangle.
Most of the fishing was done north of the homestead but on one occassion we decided to try a ledge south were Jay caught a nice Broadbar and Sharkie.
Overall another great trip and already planning the next one.
Here are some pics

Two Rocks Boat Ramp out of action
Submitted by Magneto on Thu, 2013-12-19 16:34Hi, I hope I am in the right section to post this...anybody wanting to launch at Two Rocks will be disappointed. The area is still fenced off as a work site as work on the ramp has come to a stop, Locals wanted to push away fencing so as to allow launching but heavy boats would need a 4 x 4 to drag out such is the rubble bottom. One such Boater rocked up and was so disappointed he wanted to set fire to the parked loader and digger according to a one of the locals who talked him out of it. It was mentioned in the Joondalup local rag that work was to be completed on the 2 Dec maybe a delay in the precast concrete has caused the delay. If anyone has more info please post. Hope this stop any wasted effort......cheers

Point Peron Oil Rig?
Submitted by Browndog on Thu, 2013-12-19 16:30G'day all. Was down Point Peron yesterday and saw a big oil platform looking thing, couldn't see a tug so I assumed it is "anchored" there. Anyone know what that's all about? I thought it could be the Carnegie wave energy project, but looked way too far South and way to close to PP.
Curious.

5 Xtreme days to go sale.
Submitted by Xtreme Coolers on Mon, 2013-12-16 20:47Hi all, 8 days until Christmas so here are a few items to think about.
1. Evapac cryovac machine. Still plenty of stock left on the current shipment.
$220.00 for FW members. This machine is also available at Oceanside Tackle and marine in O'Connor and Dunsborough Outdoor Sportz.
The machine comes with 25 bags (10small,10med and 5 large). This is a great machine for anyone. Search the site to get all the feedback about this product.
2. Seconds Available
1 x XT27litre marble was $83.00 now $50.00 save $33.00. This cooler has an uneven corner on the inside of the box.
2 x XT120litre marble were $242.00 now $150.00 save $92.00 These have some discolouration, thats it.
2 x XT120litre Tan were $225.00 now $120.00 save $105.00. Some untidy marks on the outside.
1 x XT100litre mackerel box. was $270.00, now $140.00. This box does have some delamination of the outer cell on the back.
These coolers all work just as well as the full price coolers. All faults are purely cosmetic and due to factory faults in the molds used.
3. Coolers to clear
XT70litre Tan were $153.00 now $100.00 save $53.00
XT100litre Tan were $210.00 now $110.00 save $100.00
XT120litre Tan were $225.00 now 125.00 save $100.00
The new tan colour is now discontinued due to the new grey colour. These are being cleared to make some space.
XTSH260litre marble were $440.00 willing to let these go at $300.00 save $140.00 They are huge our largest model.
External dimensions for the 260litre are: L: 1675, W: 590, H: 535 and weighs 32kg. I will also give away an XT20litre beer cooler with each one.
All specials include delivery in the metro area before christmas. The cryovacs also come with free postage in Australia up until Christmas. Get in quick if you need it posted.

Stupid questions
Submitted by luke t on Mon, 2013-12-16 10:25Now I understand that this is a fishing forum and people are gonna ask questions. But I am deadset baffled at SOME of the questions people will ask on here ...
in particular questions relating to fishing ban periods and size and bag limits etc!
its more about the fact that they will go to the effort of logging into FW, then try and find the correct forum topic, then post a two or three line question,, then wait for a bunch of answers that will often vary depending on what the people replying know, (or think they know).. When all the information can be found by typing a few words into google. i.e. COCKBURN SOUND SNAPPER SEASON
voila. First hit is all the info required, direct from the horses mouth (fisheries WA)!!
(Just an example and no offence intended to anyone who may have recently asked this one)
Seeking clarification on vague rulings I can understand, and I personally follow these threads with interest,
maybe it would be good if there was some links to up to date rules and regs from fisheries, or bulletins from recfishwest on the forum somewhere. As I understand it these mobs also follow this forum to keep there "finger on the pulse" so to speak.

Gopro studio for Mac issues
Submitted by Versus on Mon, 2013-12-16 09:05Bit of a long shot but I can't find answers anywhere else, and there seems to be a few Gopro users on here... Got a Gopro and trying to install Gopro Studio 2.0 on a Mac, I get through policy/terms and conditions etc, hit install and 2 seconds later it just says an error occured and install failed. Have tried downloading the software from 2 different sites and same thing. Anyone else had this issue?
Well well well, very interesting read!

New 4 cyl car which can tow a boat?
Submitted by BradG on Mon, 2013-12-16 00:08Hi guys,
I'm looking at purchasing a new/near new car which can tow a 15 foot aluminium boat without brakes (unsure of weight). Budget is around 15k. I like the Mazda3 but am not sure if it will be able to cope over time even though I saw someone towing a 15 or 16 foot fibreglass boat with it (may of had brakes). I'd prefer a 4 cylinder to save money on fuel going to work and back.. If anyone knows of a car which fits this description, let me know! Thanks, Brad.

Cheers to the lads at Woodies Ramp today
Submitted by Tradewind on Sat, 2013-12-14 12:41Did the right thing and took the ole Grandfather out today for a fish from Woodies
On return I couldn't centre the boat and winch on properly as the Grandfather doesn't have the mobility anymore to help out
As it goes with a lot of us Fishos and Boaters someone lent a hand to get the boat back on properly so if you're reading this forum thanks again!

New trailer
Submitted by Cruise Control on Sat, 2013-12-14 10:15Picked up the new trailer from Ace Trailers in Wangara on Friday. Great trailer, good price, excellent service from Guy. Very fussy about the quality of his work and little add-ons are no problem. With torsion suspension it trails like a dream. Can absolute recommend.

Maximum people allowed on a vessel
Submitted by hilly9 on Thu, 2013-12-12 19:32Hi,
The builders plate on my boat states that I am allowed 5 people = 375kg.
Does this mean I can legally put 6 people on the vessel if the combined weight is less than 375kg if I have enough life jackets etc?
And if I put more on will I get fined and how much?
Not going offshore or doing anything stupid was just thinking of taking a few people out in the estuary and canals in Mandurah to look at the Christmas lights.
Cheers

How many GWs will be caught
Submitted by fisharoo on Wed, 2013-12-11 20:24Ok, from all the info I've gathered from all this shark topic is that the shark control measures is approved. Talking with my brother at work today we were putting bets on how many great whites will be caught this summer till April? I reckon maybe 2 GWs will be caught in the metro, he reckons heaps. Both of us agree that heaps of tigers and whalers will be caught.
just wondering if information of captures will be publicly available( not through rubbish news)? Or will we be able to go check out a big captured GWs when it's landed. Would love to take my kids there and check it out.
how many GWs do you guys reckon will be caught this summer?

What to get the mrs for Christmas?
Submitted by scano on Wed, 2013-12-11 10:46So who can assist with some suggestions on what to get the wife for Christmas? Maybe even some of the female members on here?
i am dead set fresh out of ideas. Done the whole perfume, day spa's, dresses, jewelry, e reader, ect.
been married now for about 8 years and it don't get any easier picking something out. The mrs had a baby in the last year so she got her wish there also. Hahaha
any good quality suggestions would be much appreciated by several forum members, I am sure I am not the only one on here in this pridiciment.
its easy enough for the women to buy blokes things. Shimano this, Daiwa that, anything fishing related really.
sorry I know this is not fishing related however I am sure I am not the Lone Ranger here.
