Cant understand some people.

I dont get on here much anymore due to work commitments.

Unfortunatly over the last month i have been on a few times and a couple of individuals chose to have a go at me via PM. not only having a go at me but also my wife . These couple of people as far as i know dont even know us as i dont know who they are.

I feel if you want to have a go at someone for one reason or another do it on open forum so others can see how shallow you are.. the situations have been dealt with  and i hope it wont happen again to me and my wife or even others.

For those that do know me from just the site or have met in person would know i have never had a bad word to say about anyone. we are all on here as we enjoy the same thing. along with wanting to share stories and pics but also picking up some good advice along the way.

OK some may think this is just having a rant but i feel others need to know it happens. im sure others have had this prob in the past and i feel there is no need for it at all.

update two rocks ramp

Sorry bad news. Just read the local paper , no date has been sorted. But April did come in to the story.Looks like a long wait . Even taken the digger away.

Karratha today-updated with pics

I hope some of you Karratha boys are out enjoying this weather!

Adam is likely enjoying his other passion today-"hazard card shuffle"

Edit-as we sometimes see threads started by younger blokes looking for their first job etc maybe an idea to get some peoples posting "a day in the life of..." type threads in the General Discussion Area?

First some cargo for the rig

Then out to the tanker to drop the pilot, surveyor and some equipment

then back to the Calm Buoy (where the oil is pumped to) and pick up the hawser for the tanker. Export hose is floating to the left

Tanker approaches from several miles away, you can see why they need a little clearance and small boats cutting across the bow can cause some problems

as he comes to a stop the pick up line with the hawser is passed up and they are secured. This needs to happen quickly especially if there is breeze or tide, the bow can fall away quickly.

As soon as this is done we grab the export hose and pull it out of the way until they are secure

Once they are secure the hose is pulled into position and cranes up to the tanker for connection

Once thats done we go to the stern and connect the tow which serves to keep the tanker from drifting onto the bouy/hose etc on tide changes etc.

Then start pulling! Mostly only for 24hrs but has been up to 5 or 6 days

Once the transfer is complete, its all in reverse and homeward bound!

Well, at least insofar as Dampier is home!

Hope someone may find it interesting or at least informative regarding marine activity in the area.

And crocodiles may be next

The Premier has flagged taking tougher action to deal with crocodiles, saying the southward movement of the animals from the state's far north called for something to be done.

"I think that will be probably less contentious (than the shark cull policy), but I can see that there's going to have to be measures taken around Broome in controlling the southward drift of crocodile populations," Mr Barnett said.

He did not detail what those measures might be.

Crocodiles have been spotted near Broome, and several beaches remain closed today as authorities try to track a crocodile seen close to shore.

The animal was seen late yesterday swimming south along the Broome Peninsula.

Rangers from the Broome shire, and the Department of Parks and Wildlife, have not seen it again today but have decided to keep Town, Demco and Entrance Point beaches closed.

The department's Dave Woods says people should stay out of the water.

"It's a reasonable size, it's certainly over the 3.5 metre mark and pushing 4 metres in length so it's certainly a crocodile to be wary of," he said.

$600K+ for four months to carry out shark cull

Cost of implementing shark catch and kill policy revealed as Premier insists it will continue

The WA Government is paying more than $600,000 over four months to a contract fisherman to implement its catch and kill shark policy.

The fisherman is being paid more than $5,700 a day to set and monitor drum lines, and kill and dispose sharks larger than three metres in the South West.

Contract details posted on the government's tender website show the fisherman will receive more than $610,000 for the season.

Speaking earlier today, the Premier Colin Barnett insisted the Government's controversial catch-and-kill shark policy will last at least another year, despite mounting criticism.

The first drum lines were set in the state's South West over the weekend, and within 24 hours a shark was caught, shot in the head with a rifle, and dumped out at sea.

Images of a fisherman holding a rifle to the animal's head have outraged activists, who have promised to step up their campaign against the policy.

Some Liberal MPs have also expressed concern about the way the policy has been implemented, but Mr Barnett has told the ABC the program will run for at least another year.

"I believe this program needs to run through the remainder of this summer, and next summer, and I think then we've probably got a better perspective to assess it," he said.

Mr Barnett has also admitted security has been increased around him due to the controversial policy.

The Department of Fisheries had to take over the strategy off Perth's beaches after the government said threats were made to a contractor, and the Premier's electorate office was vandalised by a man who claimed he was angry about the policy.

"I know police have taken seriously some of the threats that've been made to various people," Mr Barnett said.

He was asked whether security had been increased for him.

"Oh, to a small degree but I think everyone's aware those things have been happening," he said.

"I don't think they will change the public perception of government or the public actions of government at all."

Premier denies shark policy mishandled

Federal approval for WA's shark catch-and-kill policy only lasts until April; beyond that, it will face a full federal environmental assessment.

Mr Barnett has denied the policy had been mishandled.

"I don't think it has been done badly at all. This is a complex area; there's a lot of law, there's a lot of challenging issues around it," he said.

Four of the seven shark fatalities over the past three years have been in the South West, and the Premier says for that reason the policy is likely to stay in force there longer than in the metropolitan area.

"No-one really likes the idea of killing sharks, but if the numbers are reduced and other measures improve public safety, I'm optimistic that any sort of shark mitigation, or the baiting program, might be comparatively short-lived in metropolitan beaches," he said.

"But I believe it's likely to be longer standing in the South West where clearly there are more, and very large sharks. I think the problem is more intense in that south-west corner of the state, than it is in Perth beaches."

The Premier also weighed in on the debate over what kind of shark was captured and killed on the weekend.

Under the Government's policy, any great white, tiger or bull shark larger than three metres is killed if it is caught on drum lines.

Vision from the first catch shows the fisherman identify the animal as a bull shark, but experts like Hugh Edwards have insisted it was actually a tiger shark.

Yesterday, the WA Fisheries Minister Ken Baston said he was not bothered by the contradicting views, saying the animal was definitely one of the three species of sharks identified in the policy.

That was followed by a statement issued by the Department of Premier and Cabinet, saying the fisherman had used "onboard documentation" to confirm the animal was a bull shark.

It would not clarify what that documentation was.

Today, Mr Barnett backed the fisherman.

"It was a bull shark; Fisheries have confirmed that," he said.

"We're talking about a commercial, experienced fisherman. I would trust the fisherman to identify the shark."

Liquid Limestone

After some feed back about lquid limestone for around pool.

My wife and I had a pool installed before Christmas last year, have a few issues which need recitfying by pool company, once these have been sorted we are looking at have liquid limestone poured. I'm aware of having the whole area compacted with either a normal compactor (within 600 odd mm) of pool and pencil compacted close to pool.                                                                                                                                                                                       Does anyone know much about expansion joins required. Liquid limestone will be poured on the inside of a retaining wall, was planning on putting expansion joint on these edges and also elsewhere as recommended by installer.                                                                                                                              Is it worth putting down black plastic underneath?                                                                                                                                                      What would be the minimum size mesh to use?                                                                                                                                                             Can anyone recommend a company who does a good job                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         .

Careful android FB users

http://tony.calileo.com/fb/

As of their latest update, Facebook can read your texts on Android phones.

Edit: I just found out via the Reddit comments that Facebook updates are rolled out, so this update may not be available to you yet - or you may already have it on your device. This page originally stated that the update came out today (Jan 27).

Do you have an Android phone with Facebook installed? Like most people, I blindly clicked "accept" when prompted for new permissions on Facebook's Android App update today (Jan 27). Something caught my eye, and after I cancelled the update, I look a screenshot. I figured maybe other people might be interested in what they agreed to earlier today if they updated:

This is just one of a bunch of new permissions the app is requesting for this update, but it's probably the most alarming.

Facebook, like any social media site, makes its money off of targeted advertising. Advertisements for that new Nikon camera, for instance, will sell for more money if only people interested in photography are seeing it. Facebook gathers this information from pretty much everything you feed them - that's nothing new. But now they're able to read your text messages. At this point, it's either stick with the old version, get rid of Facebook on Android, or accept that they've got access to every one of your text messages, call log, your personal contact card, the names of whatever other apps you're using..... :/

Australia Day

This seems appropriate for today.

I am, we are Australian.

We are the people of a free nation of blokes, sheilas and the occasional wanker. We come from many lands (although a few too many of us come from New Zealand) and although we live in the best country in the world, we reserve the right to bitch and moan about it whenever we bloody like.

We are One Nation but we're divided into many States.

First, there's Victoria, named after a queen who didn't believe in lesbians. Victoria is the realm of Mossimo turtlenecks, cafe latte, grand-final day and big horse races. Its capital is Melbourne, whose chief marketing pitch is that "it's liveable". At least that's what they think. The rest of us think it is too bloody cold and wet.

Next, there's NSW, the realm of pastel shorts, macchiato with sugar, thin books read quickly and millions of dancing queens. Its capital Sydney has more queens than any other city in the world and is proud of it. Its mascots are Bondi lifesavers who pull their Speedos up their cracks to keep the left and right sides of their brains separate.

Down south we have Tasmania, a State based on the notion that the family that bonks together stays together. In Tassie, everyone gets an extra chromosome at conception. Maps of the State bring smiles to the sternest faces. It holds the world record for a single mass shooting, which the Yanks can't seem to beat no matter how often they try.

South Australia is the province of half-decent reds, a festival of foreigners, off season carni-folk, and bizarre axe murders. SA is the state of innovation. Where else can you so effectively re use country bank vaults and barrels as in Snowtown, just out of Adelaide (also named after a queen). They had the Grand Prix, but lost it when the views of Adelaide sent the Formula One drivers to sleep at the wheel.

Western Australia is too far from anywhere to be relevant. Its main claim to fame is that it doesn't have daylight saving because if it did all the men would get erections on the bus on the way to work. WA was the last state to stop importing convicts and many of them still work there in the government and business.

The Northern Territory is the red heart of our land. Outback plains, sheep stations the size of Europe, Kangaroos, Jackaroos, Emus, Uluru and dusty kids with big smiles. It also has the highest beer consumption of anywhere on the planet and its creek beds have the highest aluminium content of anywhere too. Although the Territory is the centre piece of our national culture, few of us live there and the rest prefer to fly over it on our way to Bali.

And there's Queensland. .... While any mention of God seems silly in a document defining a nation of half-arsed sceptics, it is worth noting that God probably made Queensland as its beautiful one day and perfect the next?? Why he filled it with dickheads remains a complete mystery.

Oh yes and there's Canberra. The least said the better.

We, the citizens of Oz, are united by highways, whose treacherous twists and turns kill more of us each year than murderers. We are united in our lust for international recognition. Not that we're whinging, we leave that to our Pommy immigrants.

We want to make "no worries mate" our national phrase, "she'll be right mate" our national attitude and "Waltzing Matilda" our national anthem (So what if it's about a sheep-stealing crim who commits suicide).

We love sport so much our news readers can read the death toll from a sailing race and still tell us who's winning. And we're the best in the world at all the sports that count, like cricket, netball, rugby, AFL, roo-shooting, two-up and horse racing. We also have the biggest rock, the tastiest pies, the blackest aborigines and the worst-dressed Olympians in the known universe. And our national dress code is short shorts, thongs, and the good old t-shirt!

We shoot, we root, we vote. We are girt by sea and pissed by lunchtime. Even though we might seem a racist, closed-minded, sports-obsessed little people, at least we feel better for it.

skyshow

Who is venturing out and braving the boat ramps for skyshow?  I am going to launch up river @ bassendean and avoid the agro.  Hope everyone celebrates the day for what it means to them personally.   For me,  I celebrate it as a national day of the country I was born in.  I hope others celebrate it for the same reason, or celebrate it for a nation they have chosen to adopt.

On a day that can be decisive,  let everyone in this great land learn from the most influential person of the last century, Nelson Mandela.   We can all learn to love each other no matter what the wrongs of our ancestors.

Hong Kong Tackle Stores
