Surf Rod Advice Needed
Submitted by tano_82 on Thu, 2009-11-26 22:41
Hi
I'm chasing some advice on a surf rod. What i'm looking for is 7 to 10ft rod with a light/slow action. In other words very flexible and sensitive. This is pretty much to target whiting. As when i go on my fishing trips i can use this rod to fill in the time until the tailor and hopefully the bigger fish come along. I like to throw a whiting line out and catch some so i can use as live bait.
Was wondering if anyone had any recommendations? Any advice would be greatful.
Looking just to match with a smallish spinning reel with very light line. (i have a spare penn captiva which is just lying around which i picked up cheap so i would probably just match it up with that for now)
Im not to worried on price i only like to buy quality products.
Thanks

North Metro Sat morning
Submitted by matabeles on Wed, 2009-11-25 14:10Got up early on Sat to have a go at one of the north Metro beaches. Arrived at the beach around 04:00 to find a couple of fisho's (fishwrecked crew I think) in the prime spot, so I walked up the beach casting a Rapala X-rap 10cm into the surf and gutters. In about 2 hrs I managed 3 herring all about the same size and lost another something that pulled a fair bit harder. The herring were bigger than I have caught before, so a good few morning hours.

Quobba
Submitted by desmond on Wed, 2009-10-21 15:27Hi all,
My m8s bailed on Exmouth - their bosses said work now no fishing. But am determined for a fish since my boss is cool. Can't afford Exmouth anymore but can anyone tell me a little about Quobba? Do I really need a 4WD? Can't afford one so renting a small-medium sedan (corolla/camry) and driving up there. Anyone who wants to come along cost sharing and doesn't mind eating roadkill is invited to join me. Is it safe to travel around on my own in that neck of the woods? Fishing about 8 days.
Plan to buy a tent on the way and stay at Quobba Station. I hope to do mostly fly fishing for trevally, is that practical, and what should I bring? Should I bring the double handed fly rods instead? Will also be bringing a medium 100gm popping rod. Will have to be land based. Since I will be on my own, are there any spots where it is less likely to end up as shark bait? Don't fancy falling off a cliff!
Any info is much appreciated.

Karratha fishing
Submitted by Rig on Wed, 2009-09-16 18:35Hi Guys
Just after a bit of advice and or direction I am heading to Karratha/dampier area to work on East intercourse island mid october for a few weeks. Around 12 hr days i was hoping to wet a line land based, i have a work vehicle i can use. I am thinking of taking my 8' ugly stick with a couple of reels in the 30 - 50 lb range and cast around a few poppers and metals. I dunno if i can fish off that island have to check it out when i get there. the accom is at some kangaroo place. Is the land based fishing worthwhile around this area or is it more of an offshore place.
cheers Rig

Wading and landbased Fly Fishing
Submitted by austrian flyfis... on Mon, 2009-09-07 01:29Hi Guys,
i am Christof from Austria and joined your forum today.
I am a fly fishing fanatic and will spend my time from 15th of November for about three weeks at your place in WA. We will go by 4WD from Perth to Exmouth and back to Perth.
I am doing some research now for several weeks and i am trying to find some good spots for wading and landbased fly fishing. We will not care what fish we can ( or trying to) catch and will release them all of course.
Can you all please help me and give me some of your favourite spots, where we canfish for GT', Golden travelleys, queenfish, bonefish or permit, or anything else with fins?
thank you very much and contact me if you want to fly fish in Austria at www.pro-guides.com
cheers Christof

4wd spot north of Perth for a fish!
Submitted by Goodz on Sun, 2009-08-23 13:42It's been far too long since I've had a fish and we just got a new Pajero that I wanna test out so that means only 1 thing.... time to get out there!!!
I haven't ventured north of perth that much, only once to lancelin a few years back, so I'm after any suggestions of somewhere to take the missus and little one for an overnight camp (maybe sleep in the car) where I can have a fish and actually have to use the 4wd! I have a bit of experience 4wding but wouldn't say I'm an expert, would like to do a little beach driving if the beaches aren't too soft and washed out from the winter storms. Would like to have a little flick for anything resembling a fish during the arvo/morning and maybe a bit of a night fish for a shark or mulloway.
Now all I have to do is wait for some decant weekend weather................ oh and need to find somewhere to go :) So any suggestions?

What squid jig is working for you best landbased?
Submitted by Dasho on Thu, 2009-08-06 15:02Hi fellow squid fans.
Which squid jigs are catching the most squid for you from the shore?
In shallow slow moving water I find the Harimitsu Sumizoku 2.5 orange/silver jig unbeatable.
In deeper fast moving water, the Breaden 3.0 deep diver in pink has got me a few.
Next I am going to test:
Yozuri Neo in purple
Breaden 2.5 shallow diver in black/silver
Yamashita Egi-O 3.0 deep diver in natural red
Presie Evil 3.0 shallow divers in pink/siver and orange/silver.
