First metro snapper
Submitted by pudzz on Sat, 2010-08-07 19:35At first i thought it was a mission to get a metro snapper but with a little planning and google earthing made it much easier. and seeing my first land based snapper hit the sand instead of the rock walls id been hammering over the past few months made this seem too easy to see not one, not two, but 3 snapper hit the sand in one night in the metro area,
good too know that there are still gr8 fish in the metro area.
measured 92cm and 8.9kg on the digital scales
fishing with two other mates we all landed one snapper each and was home b4 midnight.

Burleying from Ashore
Submitted by downflyer on Wed, 2010-08-04 09:12Hi just wondering what's the key science of burleying from ashore? plz give me your say, and what you usually do. I found burleying does not always help especially when big swells. no idea about the flow of undercurrent and where the burley would go exactly. also, does canned tuna make good burley? thanks

PDF advice please
Submitted by Quobbarockhopper on Thu, 2010-07-22 19:45Hi all Im after a bit of info on PFDs if anyone can help living in Carnarvon I spend a lot of time on the quobba rocks (hence the nickname i guess) and have decided to do the right n safe thing and get myself a lifejacket to wear when im on some of the lower ledges, just incase the worse happens and i end up in the drink...
I dont mind paying whatever for one, but am a bit picky as to what it must be like:
-must be self (auto) inflating, ie: if i was to bash my head and go unconsious it would inflate by itself and give me half a chance.
-must be light and not too cumbersome- some of the ledges are a pain in the a** to climb to during the summer in even the lightest clothing.
anyone have one they could recommend or know of one that fits the above description? Id found some on the net a while ago when I was looking at them, but buggered if I can find the website again.
Thanks in advance for any help/ advice anyone can give!

Dirkhartog Island work stay
Submitted by southcity104 on Mon, 2010-07-19 11:31Spent a week on dirk hartog island 2 weeks ago.
The first day looked sensational at cape inscription and i managed a hour or so to drop the tools, rig up, tumble down the cliffs and fish a ledge which looked the goods. Landed 3 baldies, along with a many colourful pickers. Even had a big mackie dash in to sniff a whole crab!
Big swells the next day finished the west side fishing but walking the beaches out the front of the homestead in the arvos turned it on with light tackle.
Loads of xl whiting, 50cm flathead, yellowfin bream and the occasional sized snapper. Big tailor cruised through as well but was bitten off every time.
Shark city at night but i wasnt keen to toast the certate on them.
accommodation was good and meals were great.
The place has some inerseting history aswell. The book shelf has some great books in account of the island. On the low tide theres bottles, and porcelin everywhere, found one bottle dating 1890.
definately return for a trip soon!

Quobba Trip 2010 update
Submitted by johnray on Sat, 2010-07-17 19:35G'day Gents. I just got facebooked from my mate staying at Quobba and suprise, suprise Dennis the German has aced my season best spaniard with a monster on spin gear using the dogfight /gt86 combo and nailed a spannie pulling the scales down to 34.5kg. My fish was taken on balloon which is nothing compared to the fight it would have been using the above gear. Ray

Quobba Trip 2010
Submitted by johnray on Mon, 2010-07-12 18:56G'day Gents. Just returned from my annual week long trip to Quobba with FW member RIG where the weather was superb and the mackies were going gaga taking lures and balloon baits from all the usual spots both north and south of the homestead. Many mackies were between 20kg to 25kg and I was lucky enough to land my lifetime personal best and the biggest of the season at 32.5kg. Ray

rod for Spinfisher 850ssm
Submitted by dazza336 on Tue, 2010-07-06 18:09Hi Guys and Gals
Looking at some rods that would suit a Penn Spinfisher 850ssm i will be using it landbased at beaches. I have a 12 foot rod but i personally find it to big i understand i need the size to get over the waves but on calm days i was wondering if an 8-9ft would be the way to go if so any rods in that category that would suit a spinfisher 850 with 30lb braid. I wont be targeting any fish in particular budget would be up to $200.00
Also thinking of getting a Shimano Baitrunner 6000d anyone had any experince with these reels is it worth the extra 100 odd dollars compared to the Pen Liveliner 560 or 760?
Regards
Darren

Submitted by Bungel on Fri, 2010-06-25 16:40Hey there guys,
i was thinking of a bit of a meet up for a few people on this forum and to head down to Wanbro sound for a surfcast and general big fish mission sometime next week.
Or other area if people would rather fish somewhere else.
Think it would be good to meet up and get out meeting people. I know i have sruggled to find people to fish with over here. Its always more enjoyable with a few guys around.
Let me know if your keen for something like this.
Cheers,
George.

Harvey Dam
Submitted by rainbow on Sun, 2010-06-20 17:31Checked out Harvey dam for the first time today, didnt take any tackle because I thought it was closed till Sept. but there were a few fishing out of the way. Maybe( like in Victoria) they work for the Water Board.
There were a few trout rising which surprises me being winter. Anyone fished it with flies or lures, & is there a decent caravan park in Harvey or even brunswick?
