Sh!t fish of the Month!

Headed down to the harbour in dampier this evening. Spotted a decent fish on a pilon and with high hopes for a big barra i hooked up! 15minutes of pilon dodging, solid runs and half a dozen spectators. Ended sadly with this silver morwong (blue bastard) Not bad on bream gear, went hard! Anyways theres always tommorrow.

Geraldton / Kalbarri next week

Got a week off before I start my new job so I'll be hitting the usual land based spots - S-bends region, cray factory rocks, and up to kalbarri on friday - wagoe / chinamans etc. Hopefully the wind and weed don't ruin the party.

Give us a PM on the site if anyone wants to wet a line next week.

Busselton LB

Hi All

Heading to Busso Late Dec-Early Jan and will be doing a few days land based and after some advice. Have heard you can get some Tailor out the front of Broadwater Resort (will be staying nearby) via swimming or kayacking a burley bucket out and casting mulies around near it. Anyone hear of this and if it's successful? Is it also worth throwing a livie around here or is it too shallow for anything big?

Will also probably kayak out for some squid as I have seen some punters have some success around weed in the bay doing this.

I am imagining the Jetty would be closed also so any other easy to get to land based spots and advice on the above would be great?

Cheers

Steep Point

G'day Gents. I'm heading up to Steep for a weeks LBG shortly and was wondering if anyone has heard how the point has been fishing?

Exmouth, finally made it

After having to abort our trip in Feb at the last minute we finally made it to Exmouth. Being the only fisho in our group of 4 some compromises had to be made, but that turned out to be a good thing as the snorkelling and hiking was amazing.

Most days started with a quick trip to the reef in front of lighthouse caravan park throwing small poppers on very light gear for gts and queenies, I did this part of my day alone while the others went hiking, hence no photos. Got onto fish every morning and most released well, unfortunately one gt pretty much swallowed my popper whole and the amount of surgery needed to remove it meant it couldnt be released, so it became lunch. Lost a few poppers to bigger fish as well....

Evenings were spent chasing sharks, with 6 landed during the week. Tried using the head of the GT as bait and got picked up by a monster which wasted no time taking a few hundred metres of line off me before busting me off on some reef or something. Was great fun handing the rod around between the others who didnt fish much, the look on my mates girlfriends face is priceless lol. Also one estury cod took a big bait meant for sharks and one large stingray kept us busy for nearly an hour.

A home made hook remover saved me a few rigs and meant every hook was successfully removed as well as a few hooks from other peoples rigs that had been left in the sharks mouth

Was an awesome week, and though i didnt get one of the big sharks I was chasing I came back stoked and at least this way I have an excuse to go back, hopefully in the not too distant future.

Warnbro Beach advice

Hi Guys

I have just moved to Warnbro and was wanting to give the beach fishing a try.

I've just moved here from Scotland so my knowledge of rigs and tactics for beach fishing in oz is not great, I was going to try the beach near Hilda road as that is the nearest one to me, from reading stuff on the net I think night time is the best time to give it a try, I think that there may be Tailor around but I am not sure what else, can some one tell me what species I might catch and what the best bait / rig set up to use would be ? I was thinking mulies on ganged hooks but am not sure.

I noticed on Warnbro beach that there is a drop off into to deeper water around 20 or 30 meters out, is this where I should be trying to put my baits ?

any advice would be greatly appreciated

Landbased Bronzie - SA

Pretty fair effort from the jetty...

Must be a slow news day in Adelaide though because people have been doing it for years off the jetties along that stretch of coastline.

Eco Beach & Broome

Hi All

Heading to Eco Beach and Broome in April/May 2011 with the Mrs and hoping to get in a little fishing while I am there.

I won't have a boat and will definately catch a charter while I'm there but would like any suggestions on land based fishing.

I have heard you can walk the stretch at Eco beach with lures trying for some Queenies etc but unsure of how succsessful this will be.

Any thoughts for both Eco Beach and Broome would be awesome as we will be staying about 5 nights at each.

Cheers

Heading to steeppoint in january

Cant waite to get there, And UK in april----- LOOK out roger knife iam coming soon CARP TIME

Groyne action

As always the case, things never go as planned. Although conditions last evening did suit, i've been down many other times with optimisim and they just weren't there.

So not expecting much i packed a handful of mullies, and drove down to Cottesloe expecting not much.

As the they often do, they came just after dark and hung around for about half an hour.  Lost a few and had one bugger bite through my wire trace about half way upFoot in mouth

Happy to catch my first size flathead (by catch). He went 34, the tailor went 31 and 40cm.  Sorry for the sink pic, you can understand that i'd rather be fishing than taking photos.

Out of the water and into my stomach in a matter of hours... Tasty!!

Kwinana Beach?

G'day everyone..

Yesterday morning decided to get out and wet a line at one of the small groynes at Kwinana Beach.. Normally have a bit of fun there with herring, gardies and a few tailor.. Anyway fishing was very slow with bugger all fish around.. Then there was a massive boil-up with fish around the 1-2kg mark smashing into schools of small gardies.. Didn't manage to get into any because I was stuffing around with some squid jigs and by the time i re-rigged there were long gone!!!

I couldn't tell exactly what they were but thought they could be bonito or tailor?? They were really fast darting through the gardies..

Anyone out there got any ideas of what they were?? Or has anyone experienced anything similar lately?

Coming to Perth! Woohoo! Need land-based advice

G'day guys. Stoked to be a member of such a great forum- have been reading for a couple of months but now the job's confirmed and I'm definitely moving to Perth I've finally joined up. (Greatest city in the greatest state in the greatest country in the world, so my sandgroper mates tell me)

I'm a pretty committed land-based guy (I have terrible luck with boats - lucky to still have 10 fingers!!) and there's nothing I love more than wading the flats with a rod and a box full of lures. Looks like the Swan will be perfect for me!

I've got some questions, if you don't mind.

1) What are blowies? Are they what we call toadies in the East? How big do they get over there?

2) What are cobbler? Are they legal to catch? I think I read somewhere that they're protected, but others talk about eating them. What's up with that? Am I right in thinking they're some sort of salt-water catfish?

3) One of two possible places I'm looking at is close to Melville Beach. All I can find out about MB is that it's big with kite surfers. Having a look at it on google maps, it looks like an area to shoot for flatties, flounder, squid and prawns. Or am I way off the mark? Is it a fish-less hellhole and I should be thinking about trying elsewhere?

4) It's been 10 long years since my last Mulla (on the Barwon) - are they around year-round in the Swan or just for certain months of the year?

That's it for the moment, but I'm sure I'll think of a million more!

Glad to meet you all and cheers!

bream

heloo people just wondering if any bodys been having any luck on flathead in the swan and if so where ?

any suggestions will be appreciated

Recent fishing report from North Mole, South Mole, South Beach, City beach and Woodman Point?

Feel free to post your fishing report....

I went to City Beach on Sunday arvo from 3pm - 8pm with not even a single bite! And bait keep missing!!

Fishing trip for Nov- 23-27 - anyone keen?

Have got a few days for myself on those dates and would like to get away for a decent fishing trip. I dont mind going along and just camping out where ever.

But, i would much rather have a few people to fish with.

I have been considering either heading down south and fishing either Esperance or Albany area on the rocks/beach. or heading up to Kalbarri area and hitting the rocks around there. Taking the big guns and trying to get into some decent sized fish.

Will bring all this up again closer to the dates if i havnt sorted things out earlier, but would be great to organise things early and maybe even sort out some half decent accomodation.

Cheers,

George.
