Osaka
Submitted by nickyau2 on Fri, 2014-03-07 20:39Hi Fellas
Just wondering if anyone's been tackle shopping in Osaka and can recommend any stores? There's gotta some good ones given there's a huge tackle show on there in February. I've come across a couple of bigger chains 1Ban and Tackle Berry online which look like they're worth a visit. some seriously well stocked shelves!! gonna enjoy shopping till 10pm at night.

Hamelin bay march 2014
Submitted by Anonymous on Sat, 2014-02-22 12:58Hey guys, had a phone call from my dad the other day to plan our annual fishing trip to yeagurup beach... No I have a 4.5m tinni (quintrex fish seeker) I thought we would try something a little different, I mentioned we should go to hamielin bay for two nights and try our luck there...
i was wondering if anyone has fished the area in a similar boat to mine and if you had to go far out to get onto some decent fish? Any information on the area would be great :)
I was also considering taking cray pots down but unsure at the moment...

Bali sport fishing charter - APR 2014
Submitted by Peo on Sun, 2014-01-12 07:44Hi all,
Not been a member for long but have buzzed around the site for a while now.
Just putting it out there, me and my wife are going to Bali at the back end of April this year and will be doing a charter with one of the more reputable charters out there so if any of you guys/gals are in Bali at the same time and want to jump on with us that's fine, like I say we're going out either way, would just be nice if another couple was in the same situation and wanted a "friendly face"!
Hopefully will get onto some decent fish but only time will tell!
Thanks, Peo
Jurien cray pot reminder
Submitted by Rig on Sun, 2014-01-05 08:22Hey guys just a friendly reminder I have been fishing around the Midwest for most of the Xmas break at a couple of different spots. A couple of days ago I was putting my boat back on the trailor at jurien and fisheries checked me. I had just pulled my pots out of the water and didn't have any devices fitted to stop the baby seals getting into the pots and trapped. I must admit I had read this previously but completely forgotten as it was my first trip with the boat to jurien and I haven't potted a great deal so hadnt given it a second thought, fortunately the fisheries guy just gave me a friendly warning as the pots were out of the water.
so I will be getting a couple of bits of flat bar to mount on them this week and just leave them on all the time, this would have been handy up there as I kept catching bloody wobbygongs in the pots and they anti seal device would probably block them too.

WA island life-two extremes (edited with more photos etc)
Submitted by Rob H on Sat, 2014-01-04 21:51Travelling with my 5 kids-
Last week 5 days at the Abrolhos-totally alone other than the pearl farm camp lights in the distance.
Pulled the boat down to the Metropolis and launched at Nedlands, now moored outside the Quokka Arms with a band playing.
Enjoying both greatly but suprised somewhat at how many great rigs that dont go further than Thompson Bay and maybe Garden Island?
Feel free to pop past and say hello if you see us over the next few days around Rotto/river, i wont accuse you of pinging
note-I realise most of you already know this place inside out-but I see posts from people also who dont have the confidence to head out there plus I cant recall seeing much if any photos on here of the place?

First time theyve seen a quokka. I told them they live in the trees, and it was about an hour before one scratched their head and asked how they climb trees cos kangaroos cant...

Squeezing into the cabin to watch a movie at night

EVERY boat has a toilet...
Did the circumnavigation of the island and stopped into Parker Point together with the 50 odd boats already anchored there. Spotted the rays swimming around so jumped over with the snorkels and the two young fellas plus one of the girls and had a swim with them-looked great but realized Id left the gopro SD card at home
However young bloke said as we were swimming to the shore "Dad my neck is stinging-REALLY stinging"
Last morning at 5am.
The cat next to us had a couple of young (!!) blokes on it, great guys, very friendly and having a great time just chillin, fishing and having a beer listening to a few tunes
Family photo-
That decends into farce as usual
Cant do this at the Abrolhos
Well you can but its a bit quieter...
All in all a great trip, especially considering it was at I think the busiest time of the year?
Everyone (except maybe the boaty who nearly ran us down while we were sorting an outboard problem-see my post below) was helpful, friendly and just havin a good time.
Got home tonite.

Freo/Rotto info please!
Submitted by Rob H on Tue, 2013-12-31 08:22one extreme to the other-back from Abrolhos yesterday and looking to pull the boat down to Perth in a couple a days to do Rotto and river etc in a couple of days and chasing some info/help!
We can berth at Freo Sailing Club for a few days but they have no room for trailer parking, only car. Any ideas or has anyone got space to park an empty trailer for about 5 days near to Freo?
Or are any of the boat ramp car parks reasonable and safe to leave a trailer or car and trailer?
Launch ramps nearby to Freo Sailing Club and cost etc?
Rottnest-been looking on the website but its a little confusing-too much info, only been there for a couple of hours at the pub.
Can we back up and beach moor there at say Longreach or will it be too crowded and a hassle? Or any other suggestions with toilets etc nearby?
thanks in advance guys!

Abrolhos trippers-take note
Submitted by Rob H on Mon, 2013-12-16 13:27those are intending to head over
Just been into Fisheries and discovered it is now possible to submit your off season notification by email.
I have the email address on the boat and will post it up later.
Handy for you guys from Perth especially plus the office will be closed for a few weeks over xmas/new years.
I asked about getting a receipt to carry onboard but she said as the emails wont be monitored continuously by the field officers thats not possible-maybe just print it out and keep it onboard after sending?
Maybe a rush of common sense
It had always seemed odd to do it in a way that makes it as inconvenient as poss for those who try to do the right thing...

Ono island, Fiji Nov 2013
Submitted by Ben85 on Mon, 2013-11-25 16:06Just got back from my 2 week honeymoon in Fiji, amazing place, especially the fishing on the Great Astrolabe Reef- Ono Island. Ono is located a 50 minute flight south of the mainland to Kadavu then a 1 hour boat ride to Ono Island. I stayed the small Oneta resort which is tucked away on the east side of the island closest to the reef.
While I stayed there for 5 days, I could only get out to the reef on 2 days due to a strong easterly wind which I think is fairly common this time of year (start of hurricane season). The fishing was world class!
Day #1 – managed GT’s up to 20kg, numerous red bass, long nose emperor, many rock-cod species, coral trout and blue-fin trevally. The blue-fin trevally would have to be the best sushi I’ve ever had. The biggest gear I had with me was an 8000 stella with 60lb saltiga braid, so I was way under-gunned for some of the GT’s I encountered. One fish that wondered out to the deeper water to engulf my stick bait stripped more than 100m of line off me before it finally found a bommie.
Day#2 – basically a repeat, but the GT’s got bigger resulting many poppers and stickbaits donated to the reef. Again could only manage to land fish up to around the 20-25kg mark. Also scored a nice green jobfish which made excellent eating that night amongst other fish in a traditional Fijian Lovo (underground oven). All the food throughout our stay was perfect with a large Italian influence from the resorts owners.
Probably the single most important aspect to the fish I caught was the local Fijian skipper – Simeli Nacika, I’ve fished around the world a bit and have never come across a guide as switched on with the fishing. I would recommend anyone going to fish Ono, get onto him and make sure he takes you out.
Also thanks to the guys here on fishwrecked who gave me guidance where to stay, fish and gear to bring ect, especially Tony (LongCast). I’ll definitely be back to fish that reef in the future. If anyone’s planning a trip over that way, I’m happy to help with any questions you might have.
Cheers/Ben

Thompson bay beach mooring system?
Submitted by Rig on Tue, 2013-10-29 05:58Has anyone used this beach mooring system at Thompson bay?
I just want to know does this mean your boat is about 5m or so off the beach?
I wont be sleeping on my boat is there usually much chance of stuff going missing out of your boat over there?
I will ring the visitor centre today but from what I can gather the mooring is free but you just have to pay the island entrance fee
