Weekend Fishing - 4-5th of Feb

Forecasts:

Friday until midnight: S/SW winds 15/20 knots increasing to 18/23 knots late afternoon and evening. Seas to 1.5m. Swell to 1.0m.
Swell at Cottesloe: to 0.4m.
Winds on Melville Water: Similar, although up to 5 knots lighter late afternoon and evening.

Saturday: E/NE winds 10/15 knots becoming S/SW 10/15 knots early afternoon and reaching 15/20 knots late afternoon and evening. Seas to 1.5m. Swell to 1.5m.

Sunday: S/SE winds 15/20 knots increasing to S/SW 20/30 knots during the afternoon.

Looks like Saturday is going to be the day. It has been magic for the last 3 days with nearly no wind in the morning and it coming in around 10am. Today it came in a little earlier around 7.30, but was very weak and would have been great to be out on the water.

Need to make a few decisions about what sort of fishing to do tomorrow, some want more sambo jigging and to explore for spots, some want to head to the grounds short of and around Direction Bank as it's been quite a while since we've been bottom bouncing and caught a decent feed. So much to do, one way or another I just want to get out there fishing. If you manage to get out, let us know how you go.

Adam

My sentiments exactly

Think we are planning to be at Hillaries ramp around 4.30, but its still up in the air as to what sort of fishing to be done. I'm a bit over the sambo jigging at the moment, not because they aren't fun, but need to mix it up a little bit. Haven't had any table fish for so long now its hard to remember, pretty disappointing really. Spose i should get to the tackle store soon and see if they can give me any pointers as to what sort of fishing we should do, or if theres anything biting locally.

What sort of boat was it on Hale Rd, is it an small old cray boat? See those guys out there all the time sitting on a spot just behind the 3 mile.

Reports

Mate went out to Freo Yamaha Fad on Wednesday and saw 6 dollies but they ran over the bait school and they went deep and couldn't get them back to the surface. Fish were about 3-4kg apparently, but still pretty sporadic out there.

We are going off direction bank tomorrow. Got a big bag of occy, 1kg of squid and a whole lot of berley mulies/scraps to use as well. Going to rig up some trolling gear, snapbacks, and a few of the FWA rigs from the show to see if the catch rate goes up. Looks like its just me and the skipper so theres no rod limits.

Theres a WA boat angling competition on tomorrow with a 8am Thompson Bay start. Looks like there will be a lot of people south of Rotto and on the 5 fathom, containers, fads.

Good fishing!
