You do know the Steez is

Wed, 2008-06-25 17:24

You do know the Steez is built primarily for freshwater use. Its the lighter version of the Exist range. Everything is Mg alloy or that new carbon Zaion, including the handle. So not really suitable for saltwater use. Thats why they are cheaper than the Exist. If you're gonna spend that kind of money look at the Exist instead or better yet, the new FD Stellas.

Yeah fully agree honsu!

Wed, 2008-06-25 20:03

Yeah fully agree honsu! thats why i went the hyper custom certate 2500R insted, sweet as reel and in my opinion the best 2500 around at the moment. I was going to get the steez until i found its not suited to saltwater, but for the money i still beleive you cant go past a SOL3000 for the price. Ive flogged mine on some big fish and still it goes hard. Love it to death, just change the hangle to a RCS version and away we go.

I was bustin' me nut trying to get hold of a Black Sheep 250 til the saltwater thing came up, gonna have to settle on a SW203, man that 7kgs of drag would've been sweet.

I didn't realise the Steez was a freshwater reel. I only found a small amount of info on it. Hence the question here.
Thanks Honsu and Spess, you have given me some good ideas there.

Daisy... the Blacksheep 250

Thu, 2008-06-26 10:25

Daisy... the Blacksheep 250 is a saltwater reel. Check out the Millionaire 250BB as well, but the BlackSheep is one tough reel.

Well if u go by the daiwa

Thu, 2008-06-26 10:25

Well if u go by the daiwa website.... u'll find that the specs ont eh steez and exist are exactly the same.. i'm sure there is somethign different.. but its not listed on the specs on the website or the daiwa tournament catalogue... both of which suggest that the steez and exist bodies are made of the same material... (go figure?.. )

From what I have found anyways, theres two models of steez globally.... the jap version is freshwater only and the usa version (which is the version we get here from what I have been told by stores) is the version which is treated for saltwater use)

the issue of whether its build for saltwater or not is not a worry for me and daiwa australia assured me it was fine for saltwater use like other reels....

I have been using my reel only in saltwater applications.. not a issue yet... its been great..... I suppose see what your local tackle store person tells ya but personally I'll take the word from daiwa australia reps. hth.

Honsu, i think what you was

Thu, 2008-06-26 11:11

Honsu, i think what you was referring to is the US model and japanese (?) model they are a freshwater reel with all the magnesium bits. But the Australian Model is different, Blue and I were a bit perplex as to what the difference is between the steez and exist and 200 dollar price diff, coz when you look at the specs on teh Australian Website they are identical. So we called up Daiwa Australia and asked them, he said they were pretty much identical except for a few minor bits and wouldnt go past the steez, and he couldnt justify the difference...Maybe the difference is the hard case you get with the exist.

we tried out the exist and steez side by side the steez was a heck of lot smoother then the exist...the guy at campbells said it could be from the material of the gears (i forget)..but we couldnt verify it from the specs.
The daiwa website has a few minor errors so this could have been the same. (RCS spools - the ratings are wrong)

We asked if we could try another exist and the steez was alot smoother still.

and i think the steez colour is soooo much nicer than the exist...

the steez is fine for

Thu, 2008-06-26 13:10

the steez is fine for saltwater providing you take care of your reel. Its treated magnesium body but so is the stella. I know plenty of guys that use them as a bream reel, or light offshore work and they are fine.

That being said if its mainly a bit heavier saltwater work i.e pinkys, spangos etc the Certate Hypers are a heavier but tougher option, basically a saltiga and a certate made love and the Hyper is the love child.

Brazinos are prob one of the best looking reels out there.... also a pleasure to use....

When you go and have a play with these reels... i don't think u'll be dissapointed with which ever one u end up choosing....

personally i was a bit concerned splashing out for the steez....(i bought a rcs 2506 spool also) for lighter fishing.... atm I run 8lb td sensor on the 2506 and pe1.5 on the 2500...

worth the penny.. not one ounce of regret here :)

we took a fire blood stella and brazino up with us all in the same category and the brazino handled itself better than the rest just a personal opinion thats all but have used all 3 and dont stock any of the 3 so not a bias opinion at all as i have no reason to favour 1 over the other unless i really beleive in it
