Swan river divers

Went for a fish with a few mates last night down in the swan.

Not to sure of the name of the place, but its kinda mossy bay / pepermint gove area i think.

We were fishing there from about 7ish i guess, and had about 15 divers come along and jump in the water swimming up and down where we were fishing.
Found this bloody rude, and quite a few times my lure came within a metre of 2 of them.

Just thought I'd mention this because it was bloody annoying and these guys seemed to think they owned the water. As we said, we would take no responsibility for a treble through someones arm, or leg, or reg hose......
Not to mention, they didnt even have the decents to ask if we would mind if they swam about.....

Rant over!

ps: didnt get too many fish :(:(

Where i dive Bodie in the Swan ie Blackwall, Coombs & Bictons i've had no issues with fisho's or crabbers etc. We all need to share the water but dont know the circumstances exactly but divers in the water dont equal fish i've found!

I bet they would have had a fit if you had hooked one of them.

The Perth Scuba dive shop in

The Perth Scuba dive shop in Canning Vale holds club night dives every couple of weeks around that area, could have been them... probably a few clubs around that do the same thing too.

Yeh spot on Ben, Coombs is where most dive shops go for courses. All the divers make it hard when they stir up the silt when chasing prawns!

Common courtesy should be shown by both users of the water/foreshore.  At the Coombes (Mosman Bay), for instance there are only 2 entry /exit points for divers (been diving there for 15 years myself). Yeah divers should check with fishos if OK to enter the water.  Most divers will swim out and down to 12-20metres anyway (should be out of shore based fishos zone), but they have to return to that exit area, hence the swimming in the shallows and potential clashing.  If a fisho sees a divers light and keeps casting lures, then that is there choice.  A diver should have a knife for disentanglement anyway.  But be nice – ‘how was the dive?’ and you might even get a crab or few prawns! I was down near Blackwall last night and there would have been another 10 divers aswell – time to find another quiet spot!

Bring on winter!  Less divers.

yeah i dont know the name of

yeah i dont know the name of the location, first time there.

Dont think it was a dive school, was about maybe 5 different groups there i think.

1 mob did enter right under out rods, but did swim off away from the area which was nice.

3 other groups however did not.

Generally we wouldnt cast in the direction of the divers, but when they are swimming up and down infront of where your fishing, kinda makes it difficult.

We did even move away from them a bit, but the divers ended up swimming over again in front of us...

Not much fun for us really.

PS: wasnt you Ryan, can pick you from a mile away, but if it was i woulda had a lure come whistling past your ear for sure!!! :)

Bait choice

Thu, 2009-01-29 12:14

Sure you weren't using bourbon cans for baitSmile Bodie?  Us divers can sniff them out from a mile away...even if 15 bloody other divers have silted up the bottom!

If they weren't wielding butterfly nets, then sounds like it might have been a small dive class, hence they would be swimming around in circles.

Cheers Pete

I saw it.

I was there and saw it. Also saw Pete wrestling crabs under water. He isn't afraid of the big bad crab.....

Three days without it and I get a little jumpy

some had small kick nets for prawns.

Did speak to a couple of blokes who were going in (First group there) and they said they had a dive a few nights ago there and saw a heap of prawns and were back to get some.

Most were carrying Dive bags for crabs!! so 99% sure no dive class

at the coombes

Thu, 2009-01-29 14:15

yeah guys it was at the Coombes in Mossy Bay. 1st time any of us have fished there. I went past there in my 14 foot tinnie a few months ago and the water was really deep not far out from the shore line. That is why we decided to give it a go, and also it was bloody windy at the Ocean coast.

We went with the intention of hooking into some river Choppers but with the ammount of divers there we didn't even get a touch. Also went to another spot not far from there but nothing much on the bite. Overall it was a nice night to be by the river but none of us barely got so much as a bite let alone a hookup.

The tailor do come through

Thu, 2009-01-29 14:47

The tailor do come through that area now and then, so yeah worth the trip.  Next visit, walk to the west, over the broken concrete wall (bream underneath) (west end of grassed area) and then walk the shore (feet will get wet) around to the point.  Probably your best chance as the water 'lifts' in that area - deep to shallow.  That bay is very good for flatties too, but lots of mussel beds to hook up on.

Just don't hook me, as I dive there sometimesLaughing
