Sharing the joy

Just going through a few threads and noticed someone had mentioned about this site used to have heaps of pics of the catch put up all the time. Not happening too much now days

Why not share the joy. Don't matter if the fish is a monster or not , if you happy to catch it share it .

You might get a few that may bag you out if there is too many fish on the deck as they don't think there might be more than 1 or 2 on the boat. Maybe as they might be a bit jealous and can't get that sort of catch as you.

People asking questions on different subject is great but gets a bit boreing for some. We all like to catch fish so let others know what your getting. Doesn't need to have some elaborate story behind it just let people know your happy with the catch weather it be a good feed of bread and butter stuff or some monster dhuie .

SHARE THE JOY

It's not exactly a quick and simple process to post photos on this forum, especially from an iPhone. People saying than can't post photos is pretty common. Main reason IMO

Not too sure on I phone but I found it easier on a Samsung than the computer. My computer skills suck big time .

This is only a suggestion to get more pics of catches up instead of just questions and opinions about stuff . Not saying they don't have their place on here as it all helps others out

Dont have an Apple but is easy as with Samsung to post a general image or forum topic.

Posting into other peoples forums is a nightmare though and is the forums drupal software limitations.

Otherwise site is a bit quieter these days with facebook and youtube. Fw has been around 15 years, also partly because i dont fish as much anymore, i guess 6 odd years in Exxy did spoil things a bit.

What he said ^.

From anecdotal evidence of catches in Cockburn Sound, another month closure could happen.

Especially if people brag and post photos of their exploits........

 It's not just photo numbers

Tue, 2020-02-11 07:10

It's not just photo numbers that are down.

When a good fish is posted they are lucky to get 10 comments, but when a trivial matter pops up it can get much more comments than 10 which I guess is odd for a fishing forum.

I tend to comment on a catch

Tue, 2020-02-11 07:58

I tend to comment on a catch weather it be big or small more so than other stuff. It's always great to see what's being caught and when the youngsters get a first or a good catch is fantastic.

I say keep the pics coming and to he'll with those that want to run you down if you bagged out.

Hit the nail on the head scotte

hit the nail on the head there, sometimes I wonder whether this is actually a fishing forum with some of the crap that is posted ! Any wonder the place is struggling for sponsors and knowledgeable contributors.

Complex Issue

Tue, 2020-02-11 11:22

I believe the declining rates of photographs and reports on the site is a complex issue.  I was a regular poster of reports where I really tried to provide interesting and helpful content about techniques I had used but I must admit I did lose motivation over the past few years for a number of reasons.

  1. The first issue was that I would put all this time and effort into writing a report but in some instances it wouldn’t even stay on the front page for a day due to, what I considered to be, trivial posts about unrelated to fishing matters.  I felt like I was wasting my time.
  2. As Scotte notes, a lot of the time there would be very few comments on the posts which didn’t help exposure as a lot of the time people will click on the comments links.  Again, the lack of comments tended to be a demotivator for spending the time to write a post.
  3. In the early days I would post “kill shots” as it was much easier to take a photo at the end of the day before you cleaned the fish than interrupt your fishing session on the water.  I must admit I did “cop it” a few times even though I always stayed within catch limits.  I resolved to only take “clean” photos, although the odd kill shot slips in every now and again.  I found that to post “nice” photos took time to stuff around and edit which was another demotivator.
  4. I used to post photos by using a free image hosting server, however these have mostly converted to paid services.  I find it relatively easy to post photos using the site default but you get a double image and you have to ensure that the images are of suitable size so to not make a huge image when people view the post.  More stuffing around.
  5. For whatever reason, the number of posts in the “Fishing Reports” forum topic (where I always try to post) are few and far between – reports on the first page go back a year and a half?  I know that speaking to a previous site sponsor the lack of fishing reports was probably the major reason he discontinued the sponsorship.
  6. As Adam notes, Facebook and Youtube have undoubtably had an impact.  Personally I find FW a much better forum as the Members are generally knowledgeable and the posts are more considered, but it is clearly hard to compete with platforms that everyone has very simple access to.  For example, if I put a post on our FB page (2,700 followers) with a nice photo you will get a 1,000 person reach in a couple of hours.  On FW, if a fishing report gets 1,000 views before it is “bumped” off the front page it has done very well (I have found the title of the post is probably the most important thing).  Again, it takes more time and effort to post on FW and a lot of times you debate whether it is worth it.

These are just a few of my observations, and I am sure others will also have valid points of view.  I think I will keep posting reports, irrespective of the concerns, because I do believe the site is worthwhile and the content should be about fishing.

Hi Mick

Valid and appreciated feedback, unfortunately a complex issue indeed that is frustrating to resolve.

I did weigh up closing it down last year, but i think it still provides value  to the WA fishing community in its current form.

Your right Gordon. It's a great site. When I first came on here I was fairly green with boat fishing and seeing all the pics of fish people were catching and asking questions I have gained a fair amount of knowledge . Not to mention lots more species of fish just by people asking for fish I'd on what they caught.

Keep the pics rolling in

Still a great site.

Tue, 2020-02-11 20:41

Plenty of knowledgeable people who give great advice. I still check in each day. Must admit I should comment more on posts, but I still enjoy reading about catches. That metro Mac of Outwides is a cracker!!

Taken the day off tomorrow to go out, so hopefully have something worth while to post. Haven't gone wide since before the ban so hope they are biting.

Love the site

Thu, 2020-02-13 11:06

As all above have said. Its a great site with very little rudeness and ill-though out comments.

I miss MickC's posts as I learn alot from the knowledge he provided, but I understand the frustrations.

Adam, keep up the great work.

Good Site

Fri, 2020-02-14 14:15

I don't always comment on reports but enjoy seeing what i'm missing out on. Will post a report but only from computer when i get to sit at home.

Some very helpful tips and generally good feed back and topics.

The "shit" ones I scroll past and have a chuckle trying not to get involved.

Be a shame to see the site closed.

Cheers Adam and get back onto some fish will ya.
