Drakesbrook .

Shot down early this morning for the trout festival

at Drakesbrook. Could fish the day without a fresh

water licence. Me and my mate normally fish Harvey.
so was our first crack there . My mate whacked a

Little rainbow just on 30cm . Then round 10mins

later slid up what we believe too be a brook trout ?
never seen one let alone caught one . All on celtas .

had a quick look around the festival and headed

home right on lunch . Great morning for

throwing some lures round . Cheers

 I think that's just a pale

I think that's just a pale brown Pirate. We don't have brook trout in WA to the best of my knowledge and that tail is definitely from a hatchery fish.

Good day out either way!

drakes brook

I have fished there but never had any luck. plenty caught in waroona, some good size rainbows and fished there when the only thing you caught was rainbow trout before some dick let red fin loose to eat the small maroon.

Did you ever get a chance to fish samson dam ( 5 kilometers from waroona ) when it was an irrigation dam? i never caught a trout there but had some heart stopping follows from big brown trout and i mean browns up to 6 or 8 pound, There are some monsters in there, you can't fish it any more as it is now a drinking water dam so closed waters. A mate and i did a dive along the dam wall once and got a huge maroon out it. tasted great cooked on the camp fire coals.

If they ever open the dam up again i'd be there like a rat up a drain pipe.

 I fish drakes for trout

Tue, 2026-10-06 09:31

I fish drakes for trout which I release. (They don't taste great and because it's a small fishery which gets wiped out quickly) I use a rubber landing net and soft plastics which have a single hook . This helps me release them in good condition so hopefully next time I go there may be some left.

waroona used to be trout heaven but now it's a mud hole for jet skis and ski boats. Bloody shame the water level is so low.
