New radio and antenna

 Hi

My VHF Radio died on my last trip out last Thursday. Need to get a new radio and antenna and probably antenna base as well. Just want a simple easy to use radio that has a decent range, hopefully 40 to 50 k's from sea rescue. Other than the dead radio, Thursday was a good day with 2 nice dhu, 86 and 65 and 2 baldies. Also made the mistake off thinking of putting my Cray Pots out again and promptly hooked a huge spotted wobby. Didnt have anywhere to keep it so released.

Will try post pics

In my view only one worth considering....Icom with DSC (M323 I seem to recall ) .......antennas are a real issue as all GME antennas no matter what length they are are effectively the same antenna.    Pacific brand are the same with both lengths providing the same dbi gain.

I am using a GME but am presently looking for a better replacement

Shakespeare

I've been looking into this for a while and it seems that Shakespeare is possibly the best brand.   Used by a lot of high end electronics installers overseas.

Not cheap but appear to be worth the money.

I agree with icon & pacific Ariel, had this set up on previous boat, the taller the Ariel the better

my new boat came with a gme package which in my opinion is no where near as clear as the icon set up, have installed longer Ariel, is better but still lacking in clarity
