Submitted by Tony Halliday on Sun, 2009-04-05 08:40
any advise on a spot near town in Port Hedland to toss a few lures around here.
Driving back to Karratha on Monday, so need to kill the rest of the day! Was hoping the iwnd will die off after lunch like yesterday, so any help would be appreciated.

Fishing Hedland
You can have a throw from the public jetty down the harbour or over on the spoil bank behind the yacht club.Beware of the tide when fishing the spoil bank

went down yesterday to the public jetty at Port Hedland. fished it from noon till about 3pm, no much luck. couple of very small trev's 3 to4 inches max where stealing the bait all the time. No big fish at all seen by any of the anglers there.
So packed up and drove down to Point Samson and tossed some lures and bait around the bridge on the river just before the town. Caught heaps of those little grunter snapper ( not sure of their correct name) tossed them all back. chap next to me hooked and then lost a nice sized ( estimated 50cm) barra. He fought it well right up to the rock wall and then let the bugga get the line around a rock.... ping... the rest was tears.
By 9-30pm the only thing biting was the sand-fleas and marsh flies!!! so off back to the camp site we went.
Still better than a RDO in a donga any day...
