Also going to exmouth in a months time and stocked up on gardies a couple of days ago out from hillaries. Anywhere by the little island is good. We had hundreds of them in the burly trail but they were a bit fussy on the chew. After a couple of hours we had enough for the trip up north.
Just burly up and have an oil soaked rag over the side and wait 15 minutes and they will show up.

Light line

As Paul said, Little Island is a great place for them.

Lightline, small hook, small bait (prawn, mulie) and no weight is the key. Polarised glasses can help as well as you can see them inhale the bait, once that happens just lift rod to hook the fish.

no blowies

When we were there there were hardly any blowies. Could see a couple in the burly trail but didn't catch any as the gardies were so thick they didn't gat a chance. Only bycatch were a few herring.

Ribbon Weed

On the NE side over the ribbon weed in 3-4m of water is as good a place as any. Used to be a very reliable place but haven't fished it for 18 months.
