Canvas sewing machine

Howdy lads,
Have any of you fellas made anything yourselves using a heavy duty sewing machine?
I've got plenty of little jobs I could possibly justify buying a machine to take up more room in the shed with the rest of my crap.
Just wondering how heavy duty you need to go with my the machine

My old boy has a couple he got from the Americas Cup sailmaking teams during 1987. We used to sail regularly so they got a lot of work.
I have used it a few times to repair things but am by no means good enough on it to make something that needs to look pretty hence outsourcing my canopy to a professional.
MYO sea anchor, or crab net bag = no problem.

If you got time to kill you could try hand stitching . Would certainly get strong enough
