What type of fishing do you want to do and what are you trying to catch?

PM Tangles, if anyone can point you in the right direction he can.

Theres some reasonable coral about 10km's due west of the mouth in about 65 metres that produces some good bottom fish.

Pinkies on light tackle are available just off the cliffs /beaches north of the mouth. Berley and floaters will put you in with a good chance of fish.

Summer

With a bit of luck you'll only encounter low swells in summer.

Kalbarri

G'Day Fishfinger, hey before you decide to go out through the river mouth into the ocean get some local advice on navigating it because it can be a little tricky. Once your outside and if the wind strengthens high tail it back in because the entrance back in can turn very nasty and hard to judge if your not familiar with the narrow entrance. Cheers Kev

Flat Coral

Good advice there Kev. The local sea rescue crew will be able to help you out there fishfinger. Make sure you log on with them.

A good idea is to sit up on the top of Chinaman Rock and watch the boats come back in the afternoon. Gives you a feel for it then.

Coral is fairly flat and widespread.

kalbarri fishing

Wed, 2007-12-12 07:56

yea fishfinger kalbarri has great offshore fishing, like big john sed sea rescue are very helpful.I go into the kalbarri tourist info center there on the main street and they will give you a copy of the marine weather forcast.Fishing wise the 10 nm mile spot straight out is good if the craypots r there, i have caught a lot of fish there mainly red throat emperors, coral trout, dhuies, baldys but further out is better  another 12 nm south, same depth about 60 mtrs ,trolling up and down the cliffs should be good aswell.
may be stoppin there for a few day s on the way back from exmouth at the start of jan.
cheers ray
