Advice on a Combo

Hey guys. Rather than create a new thread I am after some advice on a combo to that will allow me to have some fun with snapper but pull big dhuys off the bottom. It will be for the occasion chance I get to go out on my cousin's and a mate's boat, some shore based snapper fishing and fishing for mulloway from my dinghy in the Swan. I also want the reel to go on a beach rod to fling out weighted mulies but this is secondary to getting a good boat combo.

After some research I am looking at a Stradic FJ 5000 paried with a T curve deep jig 200 or 300.

Is anyone running with a similar combo (or either rod or reel) and have any thoughts on it?

Cheers

Stradic Fj5000 a big thumbs

Stradic Fj5000 a big thumbs up and I don't think anyone here will have too much different to say. they are an awesome reel for the price and you cant go wrong. I use one all the time in perth waters for pinkies and Dhu.

as for the rod ....personally Im not a big fan of the Tcurves but having said that I actually havn't used one so cant really say with much authority (just looked and loaded a few in store)
for Perth demersal... snapper etc I would prefer something a little lighter.
I use a Jigging Master PE 1-3 for demersal fishing.... bait and jigging
(I don't fish for Mulloway so big baits prob not really suited to this kind of rod)

Sounds like a very nice combo. For occassional fishing, a Stradic will last years. It won't be the Dhuies and snapper that cause you problems, it'll be the odd jumbo sambo, eagle ray or shark that smokes the drag.

Deep Jig

Tue, 2014-10-14 09:40

Hey mate the Tcurve Deep Jig 200 is quite a solid rod from what ive seen. My brother has one and loves it for bottom bashing. I have only jigged with it once and personally found it way to heavy for both pinks and dhus... its rated 175 - 220g from memory. As for mullys it could definitely handle livebaiting a big tailor. Keep in mind its also a 2 piece rod but again thats more of a personal preference.

With the reel i have never used a stradic but i have the sustain 5000FG running pe1.5 on my pinkie plastics combo and cant fault it. Awesome feeling reel so if the budget allows it i would get the sustain (not that much more i dont think).

Hope that helps.
