My manual range dropped out
My manual range dropped out now and then, wont read.. Auto works fine, but not when I switch to manual/zoom.
This generally fixed its self (or it didn't and I ran auto). Sometimes afterwards I saw the pin that holds the tranny in place (the black plastic washer thing) is not in, and the tranny wasn't firmly locked in.. Dunno if related, but I siliconed (Sika 291) it in place and it' seems better.
I also just upgraded my power supply to the helm. After years of adding electrics, I realised the cable was too small for the load I now pull.. that could also be related??
Anyway, couple of things to check

What transducer are you running?
The tm260s have a history of the low 50khz element failing in them.
Might have to take it to Taylor marine to get it tested if the low seems faulty,
See if you can test your head unit on someone elses boat or someones 585/7/8 with your transducer

Is the tm260 one of the mix
Is the tm260 one of the mix and match models where you can buy different leads for different sounders ? I had a 587 where my signal gradually deteriorated and after much testing and swapping around it was found that the lead was faulty. New lead and hey presto, all good again.

I had a similar problem last
I had a similar problem last trip to coral bay. When I got back took it to Taylor marine as mentioned above, turns out my tm260 was cooked and had to buy new one. Apparently common problem in the old transducers but new models are better
