Hi Heading up to exmouth from Perth in April and I want to stop half way to rest up. Can anyone recommend a place to stay the night preferably 100-200km past geraldton. Will be taking the boat up. Thanks in advance Justin

Billabong
Give Billabong or Overlander roadhouses a call, they may have an empty unit for the night.

have stayed in the little units at billabong overnight and it was fine you even have the bonus of the pub next to the roadhouse

Kalbarri
Kalbarri could be an option, not the most direct route, but you have always got the option of throwing a line as well.

just go the extra few hundred
just go the extra few hundred kms and get to carnarvon. plenty of accomodation there. I usually stay at the Best Western near the harbour. you can park your boat up on the verge in the middle of the units, out of sight and out of mind then you have some great little places to eat, the fish and chips shop out at the harbour does a great feed and then the two pubs along the foreshore haven't dissapointed me yet, anything is better than servo food or chicken treat.
If your self contained then there are a few rest stops on the way but if you need a roof over your head and don't want to hit carnarvon in one hit then Billabong is the go, Woomeral also has accomodation but for 1 hours more driving you're in town....
Towing a boat should only take you 10 hours MAX including stops towing at 100km/h to Carnarvon.

Carnarvon is a easy drive
Carnarvon is a easy drive from perth for sure. We stay at the fascine lodge. Pretty secure compound and rooms are clean.
The food at the harbour cafe is the best place in town for a feed.

easier to just camp up on
easier to just camp up on the side of the road. there are plenty of places to do such thing. there is one place a couple of hours past gero that you can camp by a river or just a river bed depending on the rain

Billabong and Overlander Roadhouses
I have stayed at both of these and prefer the Overlander. Both are basic but you can get a room with an ensuite at the Overlander. The Billabong does have the advantage of the pub nearby however when we went to the pub to check out the evening meals the place was deserted and we were greeted by a most unfriendly publican so we left to eat at the roadhouse. Both locations charge like a wounded bull for what you get.

Yeah we normally just camp in
Yeah we normally just camp in one of the camping bays past Gero. Roll out a swag and bobs your uncle. Wouldnt advise using the local toilets to get the splinter out of your back though.

Calena Bridge
We're heading to Coral Bay on Good Friday and we're stopping overnight at Galena Bridge, which is just north of the Kalbarri turnoff.
It's where the highway crosses the Murchison River and they've built a new bridge over the river and the old one is still there....appears to be plenty of room for an overnight stop (check out google earth)...not sure of the amenities that are there, but we'll be back home before you leave, so I'll post our trip report and include some info from our stopover.
You might want to get further north on your first day, but we can't book into our holiday house till 2pm, so we're doing the leisurely 2 day drive up, even though we'll be in Coral Bay by lunchtime on the 7th....should be able to drop our gear off and get the boat in the water by early afternoon.

Dunnies
Think there are long drop dunnies on the south side.
Not just millions of flies but at night there are ten times as many mosquitoes the size of dragon flies, nearly big enough to suck you dry.

Thanks for the heads up about Galena Bridge...might have to rethink our overnight stopover if we're going to be attacked by mozzies

Any other suggestions
Are there any other camping spots that might be less 'hostile'..we don't need anything too flash, thanks.
What about Eurardy Station, Nerren Nerren or Nerren Nerren Homestead, or even Billabong....just need somewhere to roll out the swags.
