Adam, the course is good, really interesting. get to go out on 120ft steel trawlers and practice different fishing methods and learn how to make it less damaging etc.
Sounds good Dean, bet its good to be out lacal catching a few fish .I haven't been out much of late with the weather and work and going bush and watching movies, may have to get my ars out and see what is around ,but that will be in acouple of weeks.
yeah paul, we fished on direction bank today instead of inside, and it was pretty hard work. all the dhuies were small 50-60cm, but we kept 3 and threw 4 back. also had a snapper, kg, 2 sharks, foxfish, couple of blackarse for the day.
Yeah sound was working really well in the shallow water - when 200khz was used, 30knots and picking up bottom clear, and we found a few good spots.
but picked up a lot of interference on 50khz when we headed out into deeper water 150m - only while we were moving - and we were only doing 10-15 knots. So not sure if a setting is wrong or something?
Yep, that Furuno is well worth the money and will find so much more ground & fish....good move!
Deepwater and speed dont go well together mate. Generally, recreational mono hulls combined with water speed and deepwater filtration dont mix. Too much filtering & processing going on!
Thats what i've found, slowly slowy no probs!
Tell Steve he can call me if he has any questions!
Secondly - Ryan stated "recreational mono hulls combined with water speed and deepwater filtration dont mix".
Im just curious and am doing some research before i part with my hard earned on my next boat, do you find multihull boats read the bottom better? ive been looking at a 7.5 metre ally cat that im considering buying, curious how that sort of thing would read the bottim with a good quality sounder compared to a similar sized ally mono hull boat?
High tech sounders are a great tool but hull type will alter that sounders echo return & filtration/processing.......especially in deepwer water!
Mono hulls have more up & down movement especially in lighter & smaller boats. This doesnt help and when mixed with hull slap creates more airation & weaker return. That at faster speeds will deteriate the sounder picture quality also. In deeperwater that also means driving slower to get maximum echo return & fitration/processing.
The deeper your mono hull sits in the water the better and cat hulls are great as they're very stable and sit deep also. 7.5m has good length and weight, that mixed into a cat hull would be a nice ride and good sounder return. The key in the ali cat is to get the transducers setup properly. The cat hull will help in getting better/cleaner processing and will able you to do that at higher speeds!
Definately sounds like the cat is the go - for many reasons, not just the sounding abilities...hopefully if negotiations are succesful this may be my new toy
P.S. sorry about going off topic from the Pinky, top fish mate, well done on a ripper catch!
