You are looking at a knob

hopefully this is no one on this site.

Was out fishing today 20nm west of hillarys, was drifting through a patch of ground, and had done 4 or 5 drifts when this knob pulled up in front of us no more than 50mtrs away and sets himself up on the same drift covering ground we were yet to get to. We moved slightly and he moved and did exactly the same again. We approached him and suggested he learn a bit of etiquette only to cop a mouthful of abuse as if he had done nothing wrong.

Like I said what a knob !

Sat, 2014-12-27 17:12

Perhaps poor form, but on the other hand I have gone to some of my spots only to find someone else already there.  on those occasions I generally move on to another area.  It could well be a case that he also had fished those spots before and had them marked?  are you to judge that?  Perhaps just accept it, live with it and dont let it spoil your fishing experience.

Maybe he did have that previously marked

Sat, 2014-12-27 17:55

if that gives him the right to push in then I think I need to give up fishing.

Etiquette is the word here.

Part of living and fishing in a capital city I reckon.
Pain in the arse but you have to suck it up and not let it get to you unfortunately.
Just because he has a Boston whaler doesn't make him a rich f@#ck , woulda been cheap as chips a few years ago that boat.

They are out there everywhere...

Sat, 2014-12-27 18:33

A few years ago down south of Hamelin we were out diving with the boat circling above the bubble trail and displaying a diver below flag...

A certain Quinny owner who was about 1/2 a km away fishing then changed his location and proceeded to head into our rough location and drop lines also drifting. With us almost stationary his boat drifted rapidly towards ours and when alerted to the fact we had divers down said so what and continued towards a collision. We took evasive action (Not that we should have had to move) and he proceeded to bottom bounce through our divers below.

As luck would have it he hooked up on the gear of one of the divers and despite us yelling to him he proceeded to skull drag the diver up despite knowing it wasn't a fish. Fortunately the diver cut himself free and did not suffer any long term injury.

We confronted said dickhead who screamed back the ramp. Back on land we caught up with the knob and all he could say was it was a free ocean... To make matters worse when reported to the DOT they basically fobbed it off and said due to no independent evidence there was nothing they could do.

This same dickhead frequents the Bunbury Hamelin areas and has no regards for anyones safety but his own.

Heaps of boats out today fishing many of the areas I have found through careful sounding.........so I fished an area clear of boats and cleaned up ......all I can say is thank you for forcing me to be a fisherman rather than simply relying on old marks .....yes dropping into a drift is bad form but don't get mad just go searching for new ground

Hillarys

Sun, 2014-12-28 08:12

Interesting times at Hillarys too..... Long queue waiting for the ramp and everyone doing the right thing holding their position until...

1) a JetSki'er decided he didn't need to wait his turn. Turned to the missus and said it's only going to take someone like this to cause grief...

2) Ali runabout (didn't get the name) pushes through to level with us - suggested that he realise there was a queue. Got the bogan death stare and he kept going. Started to think it's on now as the queue tightened up in front of the Breakwater.

Then

3) a Leeder targa pushed through. Could hear the grumbling starting and comments being made for the other boats. They tied up on the floating jetty thing rather than push into he ramp - figured they were either dropping or collecting so no issue. As we got to the front and waiting for a spot on one of the fingers he pulls back into the queue and indicated to me to take a spot he could easily have slipped into but I was blocked from.

The long and short kudos to the guy in the Leeder he used the right place in the queue although a little weird how he got there. The guy on the ski and 3 in the Ali runabout, you're the kind of people who cause accidents and need to learn some basic manners and etiquette. Bet you're also the kind of people who race to block cars merging or changing lanes....

And hard work for no fish to top it all off!

agree lamby

its poor form & people should call it when they see it as such
if there is someone on your marks/spot already , just move to your next set ,

had a bloke come down the beach today where we where catching herring ,said he had planned to fish the same spot, we had the burley trail going well, with fish biting ,I invited him to join us , no probs for us , he didn't he moved away up the beach about 200 hundred metres , 40 mins later he came back ,i invited him to fish with us again so he did ,as he hadn't had any luck up the beach

no probs for me as they where herring and he did the righty by chatting with us first, etc

its all about attitude and respect to others

 The problem is that fishing

Sat, 2014-12-27 21:17

The problem is that fishing is an amateur sport, attracting inexperience.  I liken it to the public golf course....  you'll always get a whole lot of hackers out there that know nothing about golf etiquette....  you can tolerate it, move on and enjoy your day, or get stressed, get verbal, heaven forbid resort to actual violence....  but really who's day are you destroying?

One of the reasons why when I was wetlining down there that we would fish deep during the day and come in and farm our spots at night.
If they spotted a pro boat the wood ducks were after us like flies to a fresh turd and follow you round all day.

He should have shown common decency to at least stay a couple of hundred metres off until you had moved away but some of them have hides thicker than rhino skin and are willing to shove their greedy noses in to the trough

Had to double

Sat, 2014-12-27 23:18

Had to double take.....shiiite,that looks like my boat, and I was 20 nm off Hilarys today.....

Lucky I have the newer model Whaler 235 with black pin stripes and no name, but did have a giggle as I can now class myself as a rich f#$k........haha.

Agree poor form. Move off, fish a separate bit of water, common decency one would have thought.

No fish out wide today, all in closer from what we found. Friggen boats everywhere, Hillarys ramp a nightmare back in with all the muppets trying to get their boats out. Was worth a laugh.

so if you are doing a drift

Sun, 2014-12-28 05:56

lets say left to right you don,t just go and park yourself in front of the boats drifting and start fishing. You should be going behind them and starting your drift. Regardless who has the spot and who hasn't. If you did that east coast kingie jigging at montague for example you can expect retribution of some form if you dropped in on the que. It keeps it honest IMO.

As for rich f@#$k's, don,t take my word as gospel. You might wanna check with your bank manager first before making any decisions. haha.

Drop In

Sun, 2014-12-28 11:30

Had a similar experience last year, same area.
Drifting all alone miles from anyone when a boat came out and dropped in my drift about 30m away.
He was so close I did not have to raise my voice to ask if he wanted to borrow my fishing gear as well!!
To his credit he did apologise and move away.
