Winter Fishing

Well with the cooler and wetter weather fast approaching i thought i would see who still fishes and what do they fish for.
Personally im not one for going out in the wind and rain and sit down the rocks for snapper or anything, i like my creature comforts, but it can be very rewarding and the next couple of days are going to be the first chance for the snapper fishermen to hopefully get into a few.
Best part of this time of the year is generally we can get some better offshore weather so shortly should start taking the new boat offshore from perth and getting stuck into a few good fish.

We're going to Leeman
end of May and hope to get fishing for the 3 weeks we'll be there, as in the past the weather has been fantastic, bit cool in the morning, but weather wise very good fishing.

Sherbs and I have brought our big gun 15 foot rods in
anticipation of chucking out some big leads and baits - somewhere, anywhere.

snapper time
I'm dusting off my wet weather gear and gum boots and heading down 2 our secret snapper spot. This time last year we caught our bag limit of 7 kilo fish in half an hour there were six of us fishing and we all had to start releasing fish. This year will be even shorter sessions as the bag limit has changed to one fish over 70cm. not a comfatable type of fishing but one of my favourite fish to catch off the rocks.

roberta i wouldnt say the weather has been good up in leeman
i just got back from greenhead (about 15mins drive from leeman) i could only go out on a dinghy once in 4 days because of the weather.
there is heaps of weed up there and the water is way to dirty.
for all i know it may be beautiful up there now but i wouldnt hold your hopes up too much!

Davy_G, we go up every June for the last of the fishing before
winter sets in and have found, yes there is weed everywhere and especially around the town ramp but weather wise over the 15yrs I've been going with hubbie weather has been good, one June we were there for a week, mornings were very cold but the day was fantastic, got some nice snapper, we usually go out about 10 miles, and if really good Bob goes to the shelf with his mate. But as we all know each year is different, and this June could be a bummer, still nice to get away plus got to do some spring cleaning in our on site van up there, clean the roof from all the leaves etc.

winter fishing
If I can I head out offshore (well not far) after a storm passes then I fish some close lumps/ground as the rough weather brings the fish close. you get calm days after a storm so why not.
also fish the Collie River for bream, best results are rain and clouds mixed in with a few bourbons....... catch fish and enjoy the bourbons......
going to try the blackwood this winter, just got to fish harder if the fish shut down but better than watching the idiot box. more challenging

Geez where have youse been
Geez where have youse been the last 4-6wks???
The weather in Perth have been the best in ages. Hardly anything over 15knots since early April.
You'll find the couple of weeks after a heavy storm is not really ideal for fishing as the water is dirty and bottom is stirred up. Not to mention 1st of many more storms in the coming months.
Autumn is the best months for fishing imo.

Plans!
I still do the usual but with less days thats all. Plans through winter are to continue with deepwater fishing, bottom fishing, KG's & squiding!
The "add on" things for me is Swan diving for prawns, Freshwater fishing for redfin down South, boat fishing for pinkys & mulla and chasing pinkys landbase also at the North Mole & ASI!
We've definatly just had the best weather for offshore by far....very patchy now but do-able....bloody swell & dirty water suxs!

Weather
While you southerners have crap weather we have good fishing up here at that time of the year.Makes up for the limited times we can get out from around September through to March because of the strong southerlies to 25knots each day.
