Where to go....?

I'm a bit stuck.

Got no boat - don't really want one.  Go fishing sometimes from Woodman's point - for herring and small tailor - but right now there is NOTHING except scaly mack.

I'm not real experienced with Australian fishing.  Just looking for some tasty, easy to catch fish - they don't need to be too big (the Mrs loves herring!).

I'd like to catch some salmon (if and when they get here)....

I've got a couple of beach-casters, 5ft, 6ft and an 8ft.  I live in Northbridge and don't really wanna drive too far.

So - suggestions anyone about what I should be targeting over the next month and how to catch it.

Cheers

Tim

Herring.

I know you said you didn't want to drive far (who does?) but there are heaps of big herring (up to 29cm) at the Mandurah Old Traffic Bridge on the incoming tide. Just a flick rod and a soft plastic is all you need!

Looks like the metro salmon season is going to be a write-off. This time last year, if you fell out of a boat at West End, you'd hit more fish than water. This time around it doesn't even appear that they've reached Augusta yet!

You can usually get herring off the Moles, you can always try the northern beaches such as cottesloe, grant street and swanbourne fo tailor and your normal bread and butter species

 Try a beach called Tims

Fri, 2011-04-22 21:54

Try a beach called Tims Thicket that is near Mandurah, I have had alot of cracking days there with Herring, Mullet, Tarwhine, Whiting and my dad got busted off a few times by some huge Salmon. Sometimes those Salmon were so hungry they would basically beach then selves chasing the mullet. Use pillies cut into cubes and salted pilchards are also great. All you need is a paternoster rig and about 15lb leader.

You have to pick your day

Sun, 2011-04-24 15:31

You have to pick your day down at Tim's Thicket, a couple of times it has been fish less and others it has been chockers. Just get a nice sunny day with light to moderate winds and a small to medium swell and you will do fine. There's a rip to the right of the entrance that would hold some big fish and very large herring. To the left or straight ahead is where your 'family beach' is and where you'll get the bread and butter fish. There are some limestone boulders around, so watch out as it can be fustraighting constantly snagging up on them.
