im no expert im the same as you but fthought id just give you a quick answer till someone else can give you a better answer, basiacly jigging is dropping your line in the water with a jig attatched and moving it up and down to attract the fish kind of the same concept of using lures, just tricking the fish :P

Jigging is the use of jigs.
Jigging is the use of jigs. Usually for jigging this will refer to knife style jigs rather than octa type jigs.
Basically you use a slender metal jig and jerk it through the water column imitating a fish (a R2S sea rock is an example). Differnt jigs are designed for different actions as you jerk them (most dart, some slide, some flutter, etc). For sambos a constant pump and wind can work, or for demersals, a jerk, then release of tension so the jig flutters/slides.
To jig effectively and comfortably you want a good tapered jigging rod and a good reel, with strong anti-reverse. Generally the rods will be fairly progressively tapered for fighting the fish and effective jigging technique. (oh, and you need braid lines for the lack of stretch and thinner diameters to transmit action to the jig).
