Trout season begins in Snowy
There has been a big influx of anglers to the New South Wales Snowy Mountains for the opening of the trout season over the holiday weekend.
The recreational fishing industry injects about $70m a year into the Snowy economy and supports 700 jobs.
It supports a year-round tourism industry with anglers visiting the region from across Australia.
The Labour Day long weekend sees the end of the trout spawning period and the beginning of fish stocking programs.
A total of about 1,500,000 trout and salmon fry have been released across the State's waterways, with another 2,000,000 due before the end of the season in June next year.

I was hoping to get up there
I was hoping to get up there for it but couldn't make it. It is a great weekend to fish if somewhat crowded. You just have to find somewhere away from crowds.

Ah memories.....
Went down there a bit when I in Sydney, loved fly fishing Lake Eucembene - so much more of an art to it than what we get here. Shit presentation - bam, fish is gone. Much more sight casting due to the clarity of the water. Just a magic place if you like your fly fishing. But take warm clothes, by god it gets cold!

Hi Ya, The govts of this
Hi Ya,
The govts of this state (of all colours) should be sitting up and taking note. It is about time the local impoundments were opened up to fishing. I'd even go so far as to say they should be actively stocking the local impoundments to encourage fishing.
Cheers.

Got a report from a mate
Got a report from a mate that fished the long weekend up there. He said that over 2 days he caught and released about 65 fish betweed 1 - 5lbs. Sounds like the fishing was awesome.
You are right the weather can be cold and nasty. Last time I went it was not only freezing but also blowing an absolute gale.
